  • make that 0:48

  • @0:50 the bass player is having a good time !!

  • It doesnt get any better than this!!

  • That's Steve Hackett alright but it's not Genesis.

  • @jessicafischerqueen Not for want of trying. Certainly closer to the real thing than any other member of the group has done recently, sadly enough.

  • @jessicafischerqueen whats genesis for you? i wonder

  • @ILAN2187 Well a necessary and sufficient condition to define a Band's name should be that it contains at least two of the original members. Notice how Steve doesn't call this band Genesis. That said, he is awesome, his band is awesome, and this video is awesome.

  • @jessicafischerqueen no this is genesis the music is genesis notice that no one sing along if you want the real genesis at their best fountain of salmacisssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • I've never seen a les paul with tremelo bar but genius player

  • "The LAMB" live and ALIVE. . .!

  • Heureusement qu'un jour il y a eu une mouche sur un pare-brise qui a inspiré un Génésique Génial Groupe

  • Drummers Time is lost....

  • This is my favorite song from the Lamb Lies Down album. I liked how Gabriel would play with words. When he made the contradictory phrases, it showed how things are not what they seem in the real world.

"And as the song and dance begins..."

  • Great version for doing Kareoake (sp) .... "Lenny Bruce declares a truce and plays his other hand" lol!

  • Watched him in a tiny bar in Vancouver on the Noir tour in the 90's. Sat at the first table at the stage. It was incredible!

  • "Echoes of the Broadway Everglades"...the best part of the entire LLDOB album when Peter comes in with that vocal...

  • Eargasm....

  • And the wall of death is lowered in times square...

  • Einfach geil. Wie ein Orgasmus!

  • Echoplex at 1:23 - 1:24 gets me everytime...

  • mantab banget boss, add ya....

  • Magic, deep, powerful, sophisticated, in one word HUGE. So good to hear that this music is still alive.

  • Steve never got all the credit he deserved with genesis. He was by far the most innovative member of that group, despite the fact that the overall sound of the group was dominated by Banks

  • @Mystep With all due respect to Steve, I find "by far the most innovative member of the group" arguable. All five of them (six if you count Ant) contributed a lot of unique ideas to Genesis's music. If he gets less credit than the other members, it's probably because he didn't do as much songwriting (at least as far as what the band used.)

  • The key change at 1:53 is one of those moments that just makes the hairs on my neck stand up! Brilliant tune!

  • more faithful to Genesis than the same Genesis

  • awesome. makes me love that song even more, listening to it makes you think its a little dated, watching it, makes you realize that's a great song!

  • First time I've heard him! Really like and thanks for the video. For some reason, he reminds me of Al Dimeola, check him out playing Land of the Midnight Sun

  • I love Steve Hackett to death, but does the sight of a whammy bar on a Les Paul make anyone else nauseous?

  • Saw him Nov 2010. 2 and a half hours of pure genius.

  • This song is pure magic - showing how important Steve's input was to Genesis in the days of "The Lamb". I love the way it goes on and on and finally crashes into F sharp - the high point of the piece!

  • After all, i think steve was 50% of genesis

  • Shook hands with Steve recently - what a god..!

  • @rdety the drummer is a bloke called Gary O'Tool

  • SICK!!!!!!!

  • great!

  • Going to see Steve in Glasgow tomorrow night...looking forward to hearing this live :-)

  • I think Ive just jizzed in my pants....

  • No, I don't think this is "Fly on a Windshield". It's "Broadway Melody of 1974"--which is immediately after "FOAW" on "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".

Somebody's not doing their homework, but it's nice to hear anyway.

  • yeah steve!..great stuff,who is this drummer?

  • Crikey that was a good version - no lyrics required! Steve really kicks it live - thanks for posting

  • Love the EMU doing meletron

  • Maybe you should!

  • I was expecting the lyrics to kick in. Its strange to hear it without.

  • My fave guitarist!

  • I wish steve would do another pop album, maybe could be called 'Cured Again?' I think with the modern technology and his voice now being a lot stronger it could be a great release.. also he should bring back Nick Magnus

  • steve hackett does not play to show off, but to let the hall take off and float into space

  • Steve never sold out like the other members of Genesis!

  • Wow that was good - no offence to the singer at all, but this version without lyrics rocks - really shows Steve's dark guitar - top stuff thanks for posting

  • Hey John, best thing to do here is BLOCK sandypoint63. All I asked was if this person ever heard of Genesis before, and the person blew a gasket on me. Great upload, thanks for posting !!!

  • Incredible controlled feedback from that guitar....the tone alone is awesome. :O

  • Fantastic performance.

  • @sandypoint63 did you like it?

  • @sober8

    yeah!

  • @sandypoint63 Seriously? You ought to listen to more stuff (shouln't we all!) - only one of the best guitarists in the world :)

  • @sandypoint63

    Never heard of Genesis? LOL

  • @25x100 go get fucked fuckface.

  • @sandypoint63

wow, you're so mature. Grow up kid.

  • @sandypoint63 TRY GENESIS

  • @sandypoint63 Ever hear of Genesis?

People who don't know any better think their sound changed when Peter Gabriel left, but it actually stayed pretty much intact. Actually, their sound changed drastically two albums later, when Steve Hackett left. There was no replacing him.

  • @racookster How true.

  • @sandypoint63 what? he was in Genesis

  • @sandypoint63 = another Bieberphile (wwwdoturbandictionarydotcom/define.php?term=bieberphile)

  • This was a little sloppy. I've heard and seen him play this better.

  • He just played a FREE gig here in downtown NYC. Watch it. "Steve Hackett at Battery Park, NYC 2010" It was amazing. Very accessible dude. He was talking with everybody. I asked him about a Genesis reunion, he looked at me he shook my hand, and asked me: "Only me is not enough?" and laughed. Great show BTW.

  • @vivelavidarocka I am going to see him in Toronto tomorrow night. And it's certainly not free. We paid $74, got 2nd row dead center. Now they have changed the venue, so not sure where I will be sitting.

  • @sober8 I paid $61 for the show. Was it AWESOME or what? This song was great, Blood on the Rooftops and Still Waters blew my mind as well... Renaissance kicked ass too! My friend and I thought we were fucked out of tickets because little did we know that the venue was in the midst of being changed while we were trying to get the tickets... What a suprise to see Steve Hackett 5 feet away from me!

  • ONE OF THE BEST. TIME WILL PROVE IT OUT. NUFF SAID. JUST LISTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bakic21156 No doubt...Time has already proved it.

  • @vivelavidarocka the most annoying question to ANY member of Genesis, new or older ones, is the question you asked to Steve Hackett.

  • @knubbl100 Not to him. He has actually said he's on favor of one last gig with the original line up. And he wasn't annoyed when I asked him.

Veelo aqui en Youtube "Steve Hackett at Battery Park NYC 2010"

  • Great Song but I heard the original fly on a winshield with genesis and this guitar track not tatally the same IS THEIR SOME ONE OF YOU WHO HAVE THIS PERFOMANCE GUITAR TABS PLZ

  • I meant : the songs of that era

  • I saw Steve Hackett & band live in concert last night in Zoetermeer, Holland.

They were in great form, superb gig. Everybody had a ball. Steve played really a lot of old classics, including this song.

Steve told the Dutch audience that he is drawn a lot lately to the song of that era.

    it's great to hear that!!

  • @BenMolen I will be seeing him in Toronto in July. Plan on taking my camcorder. Never seen him live before

  • this sounds so good it's unreal

  • climax 1:54!

  • Simple and yet so powerfully emotive, great band!

  • As I understand it, the song was originally supposed to be instrumental only, but Gabriel insisted on adding lyrics.

  • This sounds fantastic, especially the keyboards. This track has always been one of my favourites from the Lamb. Steve's guitar playing is restrained but perfect for the song. Great stuff.

  • Man, that tone he gets at 1:11 - 1:24. It's like he's heading off to friggin' space. Absolutely awesome.

  • love ths! his sound is an "orchestra".

  • They sing on this now when he plays it live!!!

  • Instrumentally, this version runs RINGS around the original Genesis version, & I never thought I'd be saying that about ANY of the members' solo performances. As someone else mentioned, the only thing that could have made this clip a perfect 10 would have been if SOMEONE in the band could have tackled the vocal section. They must not have felt comfortable with the idea for some reason. Sad.

  • the guy on the right looks like hes practises for friday night

  • Tra i GRANDI e POCHI

  • I'll never forget seeing this show live and the overwhelming sense of sorrow amongst everyone at the end of the piece when no one was there to sing. There was a true sense of loss and of course love.

  • ....anyone out there live near the Runcorn area? Moonlit Nite play their first gig on saturday 13th march at The Norton Arms. Show starts 21:30. Be there!!

  • I love the mean bastard look he gives out whilst playing this moody ass solo.

  • Wow beat that.

  • Absolute but never perfect. He is great

  • Happy Birthday Steve Hackett (Feb. 12th)

  • este señor es magnifico, algo muy digno de genesis, saludos al que lo subio

  • A good Scottish saying would apply to the last comment my friend.

    "YOU'RE TALKING PISH MATE" (urine)

  • I'm sorry, but I think Genesis got better, stronger when Phil and Steve joined.

  • seen hacketts last toronto show in 94, played in a bar, nothing like sitting 10 feet away and hearing these wonderful songs

  • Steve played in a bar?

  • For me the Lamb capped a golden era of prog, it is simply peerless, Ive listened to it what must be thousands of times. Only two dodgy tracks are Grand Parade and It. The endless debates on the band are testament to how good they were and how much passion there is out there for them still. For me the Lamb line up was their best. They all played their part in something very magical. And I think they deteriorated at an exponential rate particularly after the Gabriel years. Sold their souls.

  • Agree. But I like Grand Parade.

Plus, The Trick and Wind & Wutering still had moments. It was when Hackett left that the 'magic was (totally) gone'...

  • i like The Lamia. kind of sad and mesmerizing.

  • I agree. I always believed that the last track of The Lamb, "It" was a sort of "trait d'union", as it were, with the post-Gabriel era of Genesis

  • @wetbicycleclappersou couldnt have said it better

  • All you Hackett haters you are insane. WHO HAD A MORE ORIGINAL sound...LONG LIVE GENESIS!!!

  • I agree it's a shame Anthony Phillips was forced to leave. Then Hackett could have used his most creative years as a solo artist, without that awful overbearing keyboardists messing up his sounds.

  • What do you mean "forced to leave"? It has been written, an said by Ant Phillips himself, that he chose to leave. One factor for leaving (Ant stated himself) was that he had some kind of "stage fright". I understand he was not forced out by any others in Genesis. I seem to remember reading that other band members were disappointed that Ant left. If you read any of the "official or authorized" Genesis books, or watch any of the DVD interviews by the members, past and present, it supports this.

  • Well said! Everything I've ever read supports what you have said.

  • Everything I loved about Genesis was/is Steve's playing when steve left the band they still made some amazing music a tribute to them. I cant think of any other band that could lose its front man and lead guitar and become more popular. But for me the true magic left with steve.

  • IMO "The Lamb" was one of the best prog album EVER!

  • THE best in imho.

  • Just because it's more popular doesn't mean it's over-rated. DSTM is one of Pink Floyd's most popular even though they have many albums that are just as great but that doesn't mean the album itself is over-rated. I know what you were trying to say though but there is no way the lamb can be called over-rated. lol hey I just realized your name is Pink Floyd..didn't even realize until now. Cheers! Don't take offense to what I said.

  • the lamb lies down is a great album i just object to it being what people remember peter gabriel by i love the whole of the lamb lies down on broadway id just prefer to listen to supper's ready over the collony of slippermen any day, and i did make that comment after about 2 listens of it ive listened to it more times now and i am alot more into it now i was quick to judge the album but i do still stand by what i said, a little less emphatically now though

  • Oh for sure I respect what you say. I just meant that people often use the term over-rated wrong is all. Personally, my favourite is Selling England By The Pound and it is also one of my all time favourite albums. It (the lamb) may be a little over-rated in terms of Genesis albums if that's your opinion but not as a general album. I love that album though but that's my say.

  • I am a big fan of early Genesis and saw them three times between '72 and '74 (the last time during the "Lamb" tour.)

Hate to say it, but I agree that "The

Lamb...." is a bit overrated. The second half in particular has (for me) too much

filler. But its peaks are right up there with

the best of Genesis. I'd rate both

    "Foxtrot" and "Selling England...." higher.

  • Tony Banks is a real pianist and Mike Rutherford is a real bassist.

  • obvious...anybody want to say any other thing to try to change our minds...? WE LOVE GENESIS AND THE REAL SOUL OF THE BAND IS NOT HACKETT ... TAKE IT EASY... IS ABSOLUTELY AND WITHOUT DOUBTS :TONY BANKS !

  • @SirGameface No shit. I always thought they were just figments of Gabriel's imagination. Is Collins an imaginary drummer? And who plays synths and Hammonds and harpsichords, then?

    ROFL

  • The fuck...a real keyboardist?! Tony Banks is one of the best out there. I don't understand.

  • I understand ! , are the "classical" Genesis haters that are making a church around Hackett , I understand even and more the fans of PG era... he , at least is one of the original members and creators of the Genesis sound, style , but who s Hackett ? , one who luckelly enters Genesis because Anthony Phillips had to left....them he took his place , if not, Hackett ...what he would have been... ? a completly unknown , talk me about Banks.... he is a keyboards virtuosist and genious musician !

  • I think that was intended as in forming actual stable bands rather than bands of hired guns...not as a slight against Banks and Rutherford.

  • imagine better if Genesis would not have lose his best guitar... Anthony Phillips , would Hackett be so famous than he is now.... and like Tony there s no one...put it in your head , if you can ! and Peter and Tony are the first member of Genesis .... please keep the distances!

  • POAH! GREAT! searched and found!! THANKS!

  • This is just beautiful.

  • Hackett rocks. I've never understood why he didn't reunite with the band. What happened?

  • ask TonyBanks LOL . . .

  • The absolute master of feedback and an Echoplex - absolutely love this version of this song!

  • Hackett was the magical element in Genesis, blending music, bonding sounds. Genesis real faded after Hackett was gone, not before.

  • Saw him play this last night at Buxton Opera House. Genius.

  • saw him at birkenhead just after that.... i was worried when he opened up with 'mechanical bride' and all that twiddley jazz rubbish that goes with it... but what a nite it turned into.... blood on the roof tops almost brought me to tears... fabulous

  • yeah

  • Echoes of the Broadway Everglades!

  • There are guitarists and then there is Steve...clearly on a different plane..<<<<<

  • Truly a 'Les Paul' master my guitar hero

  • Steve HAckett is Genesis Soul!!!!

  • Camel? come on, Can't compare The best with Camel>>>Steve Hackett is THE MAN!

  • One of the BEST instrumentals, sounds like Camel

  • Sounds like Genesis. The original version of this instrumental on the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway sounds more full and complete.....I think anyway.

  • Nicely Done !

  • Saw them on this tour at Oxford. Was grandios.

  • Steve Hackett RELIVES "The Lamb" - GREAT !!!

  • One of my breathtaking gigs.

    Overwelming!

  • GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

  • una les paul con floyd rose... amos a la chingada

  • Where was this video shot...can you buy this?

  • I think its in budapest, 2004. it might be on the "once above a time" DVD

  • ma il bassista prima di 2 e 25 circa è li per figura? mette il loop dopo due secondi e poi ondeggia? spiegatemelo per favore

  • This is my favorite thing EVER!

  • Amazing version, definitely - terrific sound quality, awesome...

  • You made a Les Paul miaow ?

SHOW!

  • I wish there was a good quality video of the whole Lamb live and it would be great if the original members got together to do this album, thanks for the post.

  • yeah i mean, with how far technology's come n that... it would be such a great show

  • i have to say that would be an amazing event...will be while before peter gabriel realizes that his solo carerr isnt his true place, i think apart from that they should be alright...there is one video you should see though, search "Genesis with Peter Gabriel Reunion Rehearsal The Knife 1982"

  • these guys should hook up with gabriel and fucking go for it!!!

  • They wouldn't need to rely on Phil's shot voice, too! They need to get over themselves, forget stadium shows, rehearse for four months and do a damn small venue tour!

  • @bibby5000 Just came across your comment today. Couldn't agree more. I saw Gabriel in concert 3 years ago and he was simply incredible. But the world needs to see him perform the classic '70s Genesis songs before he gets too much older. Teaming up with Hackett and his band would be the logical thing to do. We can only dream...

  • Don't underestimate the quality of this piece. This is a level above all the others.

  • Indeed! The best version of this song - EVER!

  • so awesome.

  • WOW!! Steve Hackett never ceases to amaze me. What a SOUND he gets out of that Les Paul and sustainer. Love the emulated Mellotron sound too.

  • Used to play Les Paul exclusively. Now he is playing Fernandes (looks like a Les Paul copy). I think he helped design it...

  • Ahh...no kidding...a Fernandes guitar. I'll check this out. thanks for the info.

  • Stunning guitar playing from a humble man without all the MTV guitar posturing that we are so used to seeing theses days.
