Lindberg was an advocate for eugenic and was very popular in Germany. I read somewhere that Nazism was influence by American Eugenic Society. Yes, it's a lot of connection. I should feel to take my travel to Germany and visit the jewish museum with reality of holocaust in there than US Holocaust Museum because i want to see real holocaust - concretion camp and german's building etc.. Just the same way I was crying, screaming, confusing and scaring when I was being put in the place of speech therapist against my right. I knew what is right for me but it was being taken away until my mother bravely took me away from that place and put me in deaf school, however, it was not perfect due to mix up communication methods throughout the years before I finally learned proper ASL language. Excellent comparison of how Nazis made collaborators of Jews to how Oralists have made collaborators of Deaf people. I have yet to go to Auschwitz, but I went to the Holocaust museum in DC and that gave me a good idea of what it must have been like, and like you said, it is beyond imagining. My uncle was one of the American soldiers who liberated one concentration camp in Poland ~not Auschwitz, but I don't remember the name anyway~ and he was never same after he came home, as my father described to me. Unfortunately, my uncle took to drinking and died young.
I am sorry about ur Uncle. I appreciate much what u have written here because it shows that even the witnesses and liberators suffered greatly from genocides. We could have done so much more so much sooner to slow down the killing machines. The Shoa is a horrific testament to what takes place when we look the other way or try to appease aggressors and oppressors.
Hidden and buried within the Shoa are also stories of GREAT courage, resistance, persistence, and victory.
@pdurr --- Thanks. I have never met my uncle, since he died before I was born. My dad said that he refused to elaborate what he saw at the camp, so one can imagine the horrors that he saw with his eyes.

Sorry you didnt have a chance to meet ur uncle. Many folks take things with the grave as too painful to re-tell. I know some amazing survivors who share things that make me cry every time but still they say "you do not know the whole of it. there are secrets we have that will go with us to the grave. we do not tell them because not even the historians would believe us."

Hey, that's fine. I have never met my uncle Jack who died before I was born; I only heard the stories from my father's family. But... ~shaking my head~ it all happened while the world "looked the other way". Yes, still happening, in different forms like femicide in Middle Eastern/African countries, racism, etc.
@Mayes2010 What you shared about your uncle is important. As pdurr said here that witnessess and liberators suffered greatly too. That is totally unnecessary! And WE need to do what we can to take stands against any forms of eugenics happening nowadays and there's plenty - and in our own Deaf community, we must challenge each other to be totally awake and utilize our talents to put a stop to eugenics of Deaf people even if it means making just a small dent.
@Mayes2010 My great uncle was under Gen Patton which liberated several concentration camps - my great uncle told my father that after seeing these horrific camps, he came back home to his wife and insist that they create a large family mainly because he felt guilty about what happened over in Europe. Result? He produced 13 children.
Glad to hear that your great uncle chose to deal with it differently, changing negative into positive, which my uncle apparently never did. I guess my uncle had a different disposition toward life... there's very little I knew about him and my father was an "accident" baby when my uncle was already in teens, so they were never close.

I am sorry about ur Uncle. I appreciate much what u have written here because it shows that even the witnesses and liberators suffered greatly from genocides. We could have done so much more so much sooner to slow down the killing machines. The Shoa is a horrific testament to what takes place when we look the other way or try to appease aggressors and oppressors.
Hidden and buried within the Shoa are also stories of GREAT courage, resistance, persistence, and victory.

@pdurr --- Thanks. I have never met my uncle, since he died before I was born. My dad said that he refused to elaborate what he saw at the camp, so one can imagine the horrors that he saw with his eyes.

Sorry you didnt have a chance to meet ur uncle. Many folks take things with the grave as too painful to re-tell. I know some amazing survivors who share things that make me cry every time but still they say "you do not know the whole of it. there are secrets we have that will go with us to the grave. we do not tell them because not even the historians would believe us."

re: Shoa (some times it is spelled Shoah) it is the Hebrew word used for the WW2 Holocaust

Sorry about your late Uncle. Although we cannot compare which war was worse, no person, including your Uncle should never have gone through hardship that ended continuous pain thereafter.

Hey, that's fine. I have never met my uncle Jack who died before I was born; I only heard the stories from my father's family. But... ~shaking my head~ it all happened while the world "looked the other way". Yes, still happening, in different forms like femicide in Middle Eastern/African countries, racism, etc.

@Mayes2010 What you shared about your uncle is important. As pdurr said here that witnessess and liberators suffered greatly too. That is totally unnecessary! And WE need to do what we can to take stands against any forms of eugenics happening nowadays and there's plenty - and in our own Deaf community, we must challenge each other to be totally awake and utilize our talents to put a stop to eugenics of Deaf people even if it means making just a small dent.

@Mayes2010 My great uncle was under Gen Patton which liberated several concentration camps - my great uncle told my father that after seeing these horrific camps, he came back home to his wife and insist that they create a large family mainly because he felt guilty about what happened over in Europe. Result? He produced 13 children.

Glad to hear that your great uncle chose to deal with it differently, changing negative into positive, which my uncle apparently never did. I guess my uncle had a different disposition toward life... there's very little I knew about him and my father was an "accident" baby when my uncle was already in teens, so they were never close.

You're right, there's nothing funny about it and the connections you make are absolutely correct. This is why I think people (hearing and Deaf) need to see Carl's lecture on Hate Crime and take a moment to really understand that these links are real and that the threat is real and must be fought against every day.

Powerful & reflection message and attempt to clear up all the falsehood from oppressors. Its sad to see those deaf oppressors crucify and vilify to these deaf people who fight to get ASL respect and used in any assistance to hearing parents. For them to be every ASL user's allies. no chance. With their attitude they are unbelievable. They remind me of those girls who tattle to houseparents & teachers at every move we made at dorm/school.... *sighs* BS. A mirror-image role model of tattler.

Yes, i see many people are talking alots of had made up their words , theyre are missing the puzzle.. because deaf people already have our langauge is ASL, i know that you not kind of against anyone, but point is the hearing world are bitter about value of ASL, which had send a gifted to deaf nation! peroid! I can see that those people are bitter deaf people who had sign langauge, either to they cant Sign Langauge ! it is sad.. thank for share...
