I heard Every Rose Has its Thorn was considered the first rock ballad, not power ballad. I heard this on VH-1, but I don't agree. What about Angie from the Stones? That was from the early 70s. I happen to like Drive by the Cars as a great rock ballad even though the band technically is considered new wave.
