why would you want to use XP when you can get Windows 7. Seriously, I've used Vista for 1.5 years, it started out crap, and it eventually became ok after updates. Windows 7 absolutely shits all over it. It absolutely takes a dump on XP's chest.
@spectrelives Sorry but i play allot of games .. & what happened with me ... windows 7 with latest drivers & upgrade"s ' i had the 64 bits by the way'
It sucked at games .. idonno why but it keepd heating up my graphic card...
Installed windows vista again & it worked smoothly ..
Crysis/gta iv/..... all worked on windows vista:) i could not even play sims 3 on windows 7 :S
Total shit .. Evryone who thinks xp & windows 7 is best can kiss my ass.
I use XP on my M1330 for over a year. You don't need any special drivers for SATA to install XP. Problem is with WIFI drivers but you can just get them from the other laptops from dell page.
@csrednicki wtf are u saying dude? u dont need SATA to instal xp?
U can instal vista on ide 2 u know ..
Wtf why did u say this?
&& who care"s what u use .. xp got issues with crashing & bsod here & hardware changes 'after that u cannot start ur comp & u need to instal it again' so i installed vista & evrything worked fine .. then i upgraded windows7 & got the same fucking trouble i had with xp & i could not play any of my game"s by graphic issues ! so now i got vista again & it works alll
XP is working fine on my m1330 and this is a fact. If you have some issues with your graphics card you should download newest drivers from nvidia or intel.
okay - from the looks of this vid, it's clearly possible to put XP on a Vista machine. My question is this: i hear all over the place that vista is one of the worst of mankind's creations and should be avoided like the plague. I'm assuming this is a tad dramatic. i'm considering two notebooks from dell: the xps M1530 (default vista), or the latitude D830 (default XP). I really like the xps, but, again if vista is a bitch to remove (i've heard that it's encrypted into the BIOS), is it worth it?
vista is easy to remove just wipe and install xp nly probm ive run into is some driver ssues like drivers for la not being released for xp(vsta only hardware)
Lysix you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. It's not as easy as deleting a partition. Firstly, m1330's have SATA drives, so installing XP via the conventional way is not going to work. You'll need to pickup XP drivers and use an external USB floppy to pop them over when installing
I want to put xp instead of vista on my XPS M1330 but i dont know if DELL has the right drivers to support windows xp...thats the main problem with all laptops in market that period!!
Is it difficult to install XP? Im getting one of these next week and have a copy of Xp I got with my last CPU.Vista seems to come as standard on this with no option for XP which is annoying..Is it just a matter of inserting the XP disc and running it?does it automatically delete vista?
way over my head but thanks..I just heard a lot of bad stuff about Vista and thought it would be better to have XP because it wouldnt use up as much RAM..I use a lot of editing software so i need it to be as quick as possible
don't listen to what people say. vista is a perfectly capable OS now its had some time to settle. you may need to pick up a few updates when you get it but apart from that i love it over xp. you wont have any problems with video editing.
if you really want xp though, its really not hard to do so. its a matter of selecting the vista partition (the largest size), hitting the delete key and installing over it [:
thanks so much for the reply and apologies for sounding like a noob but when it comes to setting up OS systems im not great..what is a partition and how is it accessed.
I use this example alot, and its lame, but it works.
Imagine your hard drive is a cake. Imagine you wanted to cut the cake. Its the same with your hard drive, a partition is simply a slice. You can set up lots of slices on one disk, and alot of people do this to install more than one operating system on their computer. When you run the XP install CD, it asks you what slice you want to install it on. you can choose, create or delete partitions.

Out of necessity. EX: our exam software doesn't support Win 7 yet. Gameguard doesn't either.

Firstly, theres nothing wrong with vista.
Secondly, no. You need to delete the vista partition and overwrite it with xp.

Did you have to downgrade back to XP? Does Dell even let us go to XP on an XPS M1330?

The screen looks excellent (brightness, color-depth, contrast).
Question: Is this the LED-lighted version, or the standard screen?
I seriously consider buying one, but it seems i'm not the only one as Dell warns for delays because of a large order backlog.
Have you had any problems, disappointments with it?
wp2u 4 years ago
I'll get one in 3 hours :) It arived 10 days after the order. I'll tell you how it is tomorrow

That's the LED screen version.
Till now no problem encountered ! :-)
