@papalolita Hate to break it to you, bust the real culprit here is 3DO. Look into it, and you'll find that they broke up the NWC team into many pieces, and put them to work on an obscene number of spinoffs, and games at the same time. With no polish, the quality of the games suffered, and they eventually went bankrupt. Ubisoft only picked up the fallen debris of the franchise.
Ubisoft isn't perfect obviously, with their draconic DRM, and stupid policies, but they're not to blame here.
You can also buy this game and the first 5 ones in the gog site for about 10 bucks. I wish some people came up with graphic and gameplay enhancing mods for these series like they did for Baldur's Gate or Arcanum or Deus Ex.
I am going to reinstall it this evening for the 234235th time. And finish it for the 213413rd time. Then I am going to wait for a while to miss it and then restart the process.
The immersion is unbelievable in spite of the extremely outdated graphics. Only games that come close to this one in terms of immersion are Fallout 1-2 and Morrowind imho.
Through my 21 years on this earth, I have had my heart broken, I have been betrayed, robbed, and beaten to the point I couldn't stand, and not once have I shed a tear for any of that.
This music.. this audio art.. have done what none of that could
This game was out in 98', along with half life, starcraft, ocarina of time and other great masterpieces, that year ( i was only 7) was the most intensive in terms of playing video games, no doubt about that ahah
This was my introduction to the M&M series. I've almost beaten it, I'm two dungeons away from the end, then I'm going through 7 and 8. But I'm going to miss this one and its atmosphere.
Might and Magic VI is my favorite game in existence. It basically takes you out of this world and places you in Enroth. No word of a lie. This game is the best. I still play it today.

Wow, people build this game up way too much, a class system borrowed from Wizardry, and a plethora of fetch and carry quests coupled with an engine that was dated from the time it was released. It wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't THAT great.
It´s sad that all new Rpgs have to copy the lord of the rings soundtrack, was much better when every rpg had it´s own style. This is really good, reminds me a little of the Dungeon master 2 theme.
I remember the first time playing it...I was pretty young back then, so excited and scared at the same time from exploring the huge world, facing all those monsters, finishing quests, and all of this whilst listening to this amazing music...oh boy, I miss those days.
I remember the first time playing it...I was pretty toung back then, so excited and scared at the same time from expoling the huge world, facing all those monsters, finishing quests, and all of this whilst listening to this amazing music...oh boy, I miss those days.
I have no words to describe how much I love MM 6, 7 and 8 :-) Check out my profile...I got a video there. Apparently somebody is making a fan game based on MM 6, 7 and 8...How awesome is that? :-)
OST in videogames are so devaluated... just only in so commercial games like Final Fantasy people talk about their OST. But in my opinion Heroes and MM series are the best OST ever.
Oh I remember how the songs were separately on the game disc. You could put them in your CD player and play the songs as if it was a music CD (skipping track 1, which was the actual game software). This could also be done for 7 & 8.
only a very few people are gifted to experience such a superb game. I`m happy to be one of them and the very music brings back those memories and tears roll.. :(.
I seriously wish 3DO could have just carried on with mm6, bettering the graphics and promoting the game, so many people know about its true beauty and appreciate it.
@smashballbrawler Theres a name for that, i see it used a lot on wikipedia, they refer to it as a "cult following" or small group of people that love it
@seph69er you might have downloaded CD2 with no audio track. If it's 200MB only, there is no music. However I found the full ISO on one french abandonware site.
@hawkeye611 Those are just completely different games with the M&M name slapped on. What I mean is that the M&M of old is dead, there will never be a new traditional M&M like VI or VII, especially since JVC doesn't have control of the franchise.
Well MM7 was rushed mildly. MM8 was rushed extremely to the point where the content was too easy and too little. In terms of a complex long gameworld and dungeons it had non. GUI art was dramatically boosted but that's hardly what made the game great. MM2, MM4(5), and 6 were the game I thought as best in the series. MM2 is very rough for this gaming age tho.
yeah... hey, I think I figured out how the music was made though! It was all made on a Korg Triton, which was a workstation keyboard from the 90's. I want to get one just to make music like this. I've also been studying C++, to make computer games. Who knows, maybe someday I'll make games like this one day.
No other game since then has taken me completely away from reality and into a fantasy world the way M&MVI had done. I just loved the locations, and even when I wasn't playing it, I could visualize what I was going to do next.
And of course, the beautiful music. No other music in a computer game gave me this feeling of nostalgia except for maybe the Harbor Town music in Risen.
@kobe76 I agree completely. I've wasted so much time on MM 6-8 doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Just wandering around. Opening chests. Tempting fate in dungeons (and quickly running away). Flying around maps avoiding enemies. Saving, killing all the townspeople then reloading that file. I swear, nobody makes games like this anymore. Sure, Skyrim improves on the concepts and is more technically powerful. Yet, something vital got lost along the way, and I really want to figure out what that was.
@Biopharmer Well I think what sets those Might and Magic games so much apart for us, is that we were children when we played it. Sure other things have changed, but I believe what really connected (at least me) so deeply with these games, their feel, their stories, and the their music, was that I was a child, and because emotional memory gets bound to music in particular, we get that same "awe" feeling now as we did then, but because we are older, no new experience can replicate it.
This is my favourite game ever, does anyone know any similar RPGs that come close to this? I've played the others in the series and Wizards & Warriors.
One of the best RPG games ever! MM3 till MM6 where the pinnacle of the Might & Magic series, and they are still VERY playable and enjoyable games even today!
Oh how I wished John V. C. and the old team would get back together and made a true MM 10, in the spirit of these old games. They where great to play!
You're right, even the lead designer said the project was released in the pre-alpha stage. They should have simply put all their resources into HMM4 and made bank Blizzard style, then worked on MM9.
You can thank 3DO for killing the series. I have some hope the besthesda will continue to deliver the tools necessary to remake these legends into something fitting of the times.
They just don't make games with this much depth or attention to detail anymore. Which is a shame, with today's technology these games should have improved... Oh well, still love this soundtrack.
That's not completely true, I think Fallout 3 and Bioshock both had a great deal of depth. The problem is that with the complexity of graphics you have to spend your budget getting the visuals up to date, which breaks the bank in terms of time and money for other things.
Now I'm not going to say those games aren't good. Heck, they were great. I just personally felt that much of those games when you finished an area there was no reason to ever go back to it. Also, now I know I'm being unrealistic, but I managed to be Fallout 3 quite quickly even after doing much of he side quests, I think 2 months (Not including the add-ons). This game took me roughly a year and two months to get through. Not all people want that type of game, but I loved it.
I do know that Rob King worked on the M&M6 music. I have the soundtracks, and when I play any of the songs for M&M6 and M&M7, the composer is always listed as Rob King.

This game(MM6) and heroes of might and magic 2, are THE best games ever created! Seriously wonderful. i loved them as a kid, i love them now, and for the rest of my life i think i love them.
I thought I was only one who love MM6 music! well maybe because I'm from southeast asia and a few people knew this.
aah...the harpsicord..orchestra..especially the horn!..brings back might and magic memories.
My, I remember a decade ago I was playing this, but I've lost the cds, and now I'm playing it again via download. though it's sad the game couldn't uplaod the music properly. help!
Ohh, the memories, memories of a Great Epic game, the story was so good. I dont know what ubisoft was thinking. Well Ubisoft virtually destroyed M&M old storyline cuz in the Homm 4 they blew the old world up.. and went into another world, am I correct? Ubisoft had a pot of gold right undertheir noses and they set it on fire. What a stupid step to make. Maybe if they would have used the HoMM old personnel then maybe HoMM games would still be in the top.
I think Nival has done a pretty good job with Heroes of Might and Magic V, but I agree that Ubi isn't a good publisher. I was hoping Besthesda would have bought heroes, but 3DO even screwed us there too :(
well i have played all the heroes of might and magic games and i got to mention that ubisoft raped it hardly. anyway my most favourite part is homm 2.i ve also played crusaders of might and magic and of course pure might and magic 6 7 8 and 9. i didnt try 1 - 5 because they were not available in my country. and MaM 6 is the best !
I've never played any of these Might and Magic games, but I have played the Heroes games, I've played all 5, and their expansions. 1, 2, and 3 were the best, 4 was a failure in my opinion, and they kind of brought it back in 5, but they implemented too many new features, I liked the old, simple Heroes games. Happy memories, I spent countless hours playing those games.
Good job New World Computing, the best gaming company ever.
Someone should remake this game with more utility stuff and perhaps less huge dungeons that keep having the same enemies over and over again.. But keep the music the same, and perhaps some remixed/remastered tracks in some areas :')
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't think so, I think HoMaM5 is actually pretty good sequel for HoMaM3, HoMaM4 sucked. It has better graphics and there are some minor changes in character systems but it's good old HoMaM.
HMM 5 isn't worth the money, but Heroes 3 ('Complete' especially) is. No doubt about it from my point of view.. But I'll not take time to explain why, right now. I've just loved that game right from... always.. It's very special - just like MM6.
Heroes 3 was the highwater mark for the heroes series. I liked Heroes 4, i just wish it had more continuity with the other games. It wasn't all bad. But 3 was the best, and two was great too.
in 1998 i bought my pc with this game gifted alongside...I was lets say charmed, enchanted by this first song i heard(I think its this song right?:))...and now? yes..yes i still am,i still am...I think we owe some huge thanks to the creator(s) :) .thx for the upload too btw :D
One of my fav games... And the soundtrack is soooooooo beautiful. M&M 6 rocks! I dream about remake of this great game... But the music should be the same (or just remastered)^^

I still can't believe that Ubisoft still has their heads so far up their asses, that they won't make a Might And Magic 10. Those fucking bastards.
Ever since 3DO went bankrupt, Ubisoft bought the license and decided that it's too fucking stupid to make Might And Magic 10. Those French bastards.

I had a feeling that this was the theme song for New Sorpigal. Nice work.

Not just New Sorpigal, I heard it sometimes in Castle Ironfist

Someone should remake this game with more utility stuff and perhaps less huge dungeons that keep having the same enemies over and over again.. But keep the music the same, and perhaps some remixed/remastered tracks in some areas :')
I'd love that.

Just don't make Ubisoft do it...
They suck at Might and Magic.
We miss you 3DO!

I don't think so, I think HoMaM5 is actually pretty good sequel for HoMaM3, HoMaM4 sucked. It has better graphics and there are some minor changes in character systems but it's good old HoMaM.

No - I disagree.
HMM 5 isn't worth the money, but Heroes 3 ('Complete' especially) is. No doubt about it from my point of view.. But I'll not take time to explain why, right now. I've just loved that game right from... always.. It's very special - just like MM6.

heroes 3 and mm6 were easily the best of the bunch (heroes 2 wasnt bad of course)

Heroes 3 was the highwater mark for the heroes series. I liked Heroes 4, i just wish it had more continuity with the other games. It wasn't all bad. But 3 was the best, and two was great too.
MM6 was definitely the best of that series.

One of my fav games... And the soundtrack is soooooooo beautiful. M&M 6 rocks! I dream about remake of this great game... But the music should be the same (or just remastered)^^
