  • Why cant we /I get the whole frickin movie not this 1 part bullshit at a time crap???

  • Who is the narrator she has a very odd voice.

  • A planet where mutants rule.........something like now!

  • I've watched this movie several times since I was a kid and there is one thing I still wonder, Who were the terrorists that started it all?

  • So I came from Fantastic Planet to this... It works somehow but doesn't...,

  • @AllMightyTallestEmma Have you saw Time Masters (1982)?

  • YEES! many thx fer this great video!!!

  • technology versus nature is an interesting theme.

  • 70's movies are very weird.

  • @creativeprojects720 Have you ever seen Fantastic Planet?

  • @davidls11 no. is it a good movie?

  • @creativeprojects720 It's a great movie. A little slow paced by today's standards, but still a 'must see' for anyone who likes science fiction and/or animation. It's posted here on youtube.

  • Why does it have to be a technology vs magic? Why not both, if magic is also real? You would have things like elves with machineguns lol. Some wizard would carry a magic M1 Garand with a scope or some M4/HK416 haha!

  • Thank you for sharing this classic.

  • I soo watched this when I was a kid, like five years old...Heavy Metal too.

  • I watched this when I was ten. Oy. Faeries getting butchered was not expected.

  • I thought I hadn't seen this before, but I've totally fucking seen this before.

It was just a very long time ago.

  • Saw this at a Drive In Movie Theater many decades ago.

  • Someone brought this into class. At first I was like "What in the?" I still think that but I think this film could of been better. I give it the "okay though". I still have to finish the rest of this but some scenes were pretty interesting. Did anyone else kind of crack up from "the shield" if you know what I mean I hope you laughed at that too. It was just so unexpected. It experiments around different animation techniques which kind of weird me out.

  • What's Bender doing here-not to mention he went blood

  • Bakshi Rocks. Takes me back to vhs youth..I still have the video poster and even though its tattered I Love the pic of "Peace" |,,/, Thanks for posting this :)

  • I saw this movie in the theater when I was seven. For years it occupied a special place in my mind...my parents obviously didn't get that this wasn't a children's movie, and I date the beginning of the end of my innocence to Wizards. Saw it as an adult finally and it still has a kinda corny hippie-ish 1970s charm.

  • "It took 2 million years for the radioactive clouds to let some sun in. Only a handful of humans survived. The rest of humanity had changed into hideous mutants."

I'm surprised any human descendants could've lasted that long. Or was that a hyperbole? For those that could make it, there would be much evolution due to the radiation and the extreme conditions. So did the faerie folk evolve from the humans or mutants? And how handicapped were the mutants?

I rented this on VHS back in 1989 BTW

  • I gave Peace a chance back in 85. He's been my hero ever since.

  • Surprisingly I'm not watching because of cracked but because I saw this at a drive in that was playing this and "Heavy Metal" all in the same night.

  • @TheWhoaDude I saw this when it first came out too, im pretty sure it came out about 2 years before Heavy Metal , but I may be mistaken.

  • I had this on Betamax. LOL It's shit.

  • Ralph Bakshi is a genius!

  • @CClovestar he is one of my idols that got me in to drewing comics and idea of my own

  • My dad showed this to me when I was 5 years old, back in 1999. I've loved it ever since, and I've watched it many, many times since. I'm 17 now, and the magic in this movie still makes me think. This story is a magical classic, and a beautiful, moving movie, even if it's over 30 years old and animated, or thought of now as a "kids" movie. It's for all ages, as long as you can think.

  • "the ancient dictators use technology to enslave the masses"

guess Steve Jobs was an ancient dictator lol

  • rented this from the library when I was in 5th grade, this and Bakshi's LOTR are great kids movies. Wizards especially illustrates elegantly how the only real magic in the world are illusions, which every government in all of history has used to effectively control their populations. They don't make em like they used to.

  • i remember renting this vhs over and over from blockbuster as a kid. great movie

  • Kindof Lord of the R story

  • i first saw this movie in a small theatre in 1978----brings back great memories--i have seen all of ralph bakshi's work-- a true genius!!!!

  • This movie is hilarious.

  • It's kinda ironic that the kind brother grows up into a lazy asshole and the evil brother grows into a sort of well intentioned extremist.

  • this dosen't looks like a kids movie at all.

  • i wasnt even born when this was released....somehow i just found it....

  • @TheShubhzipd same here :)

  • Those illustrations at the beginning are kind of Walt Kelly-esque.

  • @Oecobius walt kelly!!! i grew up reading Pogo and my brothers and i still use those phrases, vive churchy la femme!!

  • this was made in the 70's? not surprising really

  • its not that its not an imaginative theme or a creative story line, but it just isn't for kids, putting themes like terrorism guns blood death and prostitutes in a movie that was supposed to be for kids is just stupidity.

IT should be marked as a cartoon for adults, someone put this on for me as a kid and i couldn't understand shit but i learned the word bitch.

  • great film, but why does everything bad in it have to be "dark" or "black"? what kind of message is that supposed to send? those words get spat out in the film like swear words.

  • @samphibian 1977 time for not so subliminal racism on tv i'm afraid :( terrible shit they got away with rly this movie is creepy as hell as it is though i've gotta say.

  • this is ahead of *our* times.

  • made each birth a new disaster

  • @MrOfferp like David browies hair cut

  • This is so awesome. Why is it so awesome?

  • I loved this movie so much when i was lil.... but i could never find it after i saw it

  • I luv old films like this they are always so interesting to watch

  • Good god I have not seen this since I was a child!

  • ...yeap.. cause.. that Natural Technology sure stopped him from getting his ass capped..

  • :27 "...Theeee End =D ..wait what? D:

  • I was actually mesmerized by this as a kid...

  • I used to watch this on Beta when I was like 4 or 5. I've been trying to figure out what it was for the last 10 years! I'm buying this shit on BluRay on pay day!!!! Yeeeahhh!

  • I think my 3 kids would never sleep again if I showed them this movie. I once got high and watched this movie with white zombie playing in the background.

  • @thgildub0001 That last part sounds horrifying.

  • Why does anybody think this was ever intended for children? It was very obviously an adult movie...

  • @Poeden true it made be saken after seeing this

  • @Poeden I also thinks its interesting that as soon as something is animated rather than done with live actors people automatically think its for kids.

  • @Poeden It's possible that back in the 70's, people didn't think their children were miniature retards that couldn't handle mature themes.

I dunno, I'm not basing that on anything. But this is the kind of thing I'd have loved to watch when I was a kid. And that was back in the 90's.

  • @Poeden << I suppose the same people think that Bakshi's other film, "Fritz The Cat" was for kids as well.

  • @Poeden it was, like the movie that had furries exited called fritz the cat... a friend i have bought it, to a guy that sells cheap DVD's she didnt know what it was.... and blam when his kids saw it, all this furry cartoons in the nude, drugas etc..... poor kids ruined their lives.....

  • I dunno about suitable for children or not, but I'm re-watching this movie now for the first time since I was 10. I have a vague memory that it had a sort of anti-technological message. I remember even then that I felt that was really stupid message even as a 10 year old. Maybe a rewatch 20 years later will see if the movie has a more nuanced message.

  • @1873Winchester Except there is one good thing about technology! Weehawk shot his enemy with a pistol!

  • @Poeden Animated features get that unfortunate stereotype. If you look at the stuff from the 40's it's clear those shorts were intended for an adult audience.

  • DAMN THE THINGS EYEBALL JUST FUCKING POPPED OUT WUT THE HELL

  • Anyone notice how the voice of Avatar sounds like George Carlin.

  • lol at 5:46

  • it looks stupid

  • I think this was the first really REALLY independent film I saw as a kid, which put me off at first but it drew me in pretty quickly with its sheer uniqueness, humor and frankly excitement... that and while watching it it's hard not to notice inspirations for future Star Wars films.

  • anyone else watching this because of cracked?

  • @boibfrof no for side boob

  • just watched this movie reallly high at a friends house. couldnt sstop staring at elinors body thats one saucy fairy for a kids movie, in fact this is a pretty fucked up movie for kids to be watching

  • @aqualobster

Do you think she's a hotter fairy than Crysta from Ferngully

  • @Johnlindsey289 pfft yeah

  • I wish in movies and media they'd stop with this idea that ugly things are evil. There's a book i love called The Brothers where two twins were born polar opposites like in the movie, but the pretty one was selfish and full of himself and the ugly one was kind but so ugly he was banished to live alone in a swamp. Later on the pretty one was crowned king for doing nothing and the ugly one sacrifices himself to save the city from a flood but the people were just relieved the ugly monster was dead.

  • @zombiebunny17 who was the author I want to read it o.o

  • @zombiebunny17 They have plenty of movies that detest against that idea.

  • OH NOES!

    Not the children!

  • Awesome upload, been looking for this for years!

  • This movie is delightfully disturbing

  • this is brutal. are we sure it's for kids?

  • Thanks for uploading it. I saw this movie years ago !

  • @MissRedDawn- Just because it is a cartoon does not mean it is meant for kids. Ralph Bakshi did animated films for Mature Audiences. To scar your innocent mind more go watch Watership Down and Felidae. Both are very old films for adults as well. (Watership Down not so much, I watched it when I was 7, and I came out fine.)

  • @fairyrath - no Bender looks like Necron 99.

  • 9:07

  • whos got the LSD!

  • This animator also created and directed/produced the original Lord of the Rings animation in the 1970s. This has a bit of that same feel to it. It's very funny (a bit dated humor) with the 2 soldiers who get several bit characters scene. This is 1970s at it's best

  • wow, talk about a hippy film

  • @lorien13 Thats why its awseome

  • There's a wizard named Avatar? Reminds me of Avatar: The Last AirBender.

  • A pink assassin in a black forest. :D cool idea :)

  • Here's a movie thats begging to be remade. And not in a cartoon either---but with real life actors and actresses.Very relevant story here, espicially for the times we live in today.

  • @mrbrianmccarthy

Yes, I especially like the part when Avatar the wizard pulls a goddamned pistol on Blackwolf and shoots him. To see that in live action would be intense.

  • I watched this movie as the main event for an Anime Club lock-in at my high school last night. Peace looks and acts like Boba Fett's mentally retarded, communist cousin. I wish the Nostalgia Critic would review this. Sadly however, he wouldn't be able to make any box office buttfuck jokes because this movie had the sad misfortune of being released one week before Star Wars.

  • This movie wasn't geared towards children. Neither was Bakshi's, The Lord of the Rings. Heavy Metal wasn't either. Perhaps you people think Fritz the Cat was for children too?

This movie has more substance than any of today's movies, including this weekend's Thor!

  • @Jaeden2k I agree---great movie, great animation for the times, and a message thats ringing ever more true today(The message being that evil people tend to use technology to control and dominate others)

  • don't get why so many people hate this movie, it's got a great soundtrack and shows movies DON'T need "pretty graphics" to tell a good story, and it's surprisingly mature for something so cartoony, it's definitely got some nerve that's what's so great about it

  • Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing this movie remade. There is a lot of stuff that works, if only it weren't so cartoony.

  • I love cartoons, but OMG, this is the worst movie cartoon ive ever seen. god it was awful. and i dont even find this movie suitable for children.

  • @Tiamat583 Uhm...maybe because it isn´t meant for children? I mean, the hideously old animation aside, what would have made you think it was for children? The Nazi-Propaganda maybe?

  • @Chrinik

yeah it has some nazi representation, some nudity. in my opinion this movie was real crap.

  • @Tiamat583 You are entitled to your opinion. I liked the ending...just pull out a gun and shoot the fucker. Never has simplicity solved so much.

But yeah, the rest is very hard to watch, even by old standarts.

  • @Chrinik

Yeah I understand, my apologies for the hate.

By the way, the part where he magically pulls out a gun and shoots the enemy two times(like you said) was kind of entertaining, a highlight of the movie.

  • @Tiamat583 This movie was social commentary disguised as an animation fantasy tale. This was made for adults. Anyone of moderate intelligence would notice this aspect of the film. If you found this movie awful that says more about you than the film.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Right, for example, it might say that I have a taste for movies that have a more subtlety than a hammer to the face.

  • Is that Bender @ 4:12?

  • WHERE MUTANTS RULE - WOOOOOOOOOO! MUTANTS, MUTANTS, MUTANTS!

  • man it would really kick some ass to see this in theaters :D

  • The narrator sounds kinda... bored.

  • They gotta make a remake of this movie!!! Im sure it would be as good as th original though

  • Awesome

  • This is one of those movies I would sneak back in to see - several times. I was only 14 at the time and I haven't seen anything like it since. It stays with me to this day.

  • This is such a brilliant movie. There has yet to be one like it. love this.

  • I think black wolf hates his mother because of his arms.

  • @ArtOfTreasury111 Well, it didn't come from his FATHER's side of the family.

  • The narrator sounds stoned. Ah, the fallout of the sixties. I like her southern accent too. Something you don't get to hear these days much anymore.

  • I remember I watched this movie twice when I was 7 years old >_> I'm 25 and I'd been looking for it for years, it was like a distant memory of my childhood but I knew it was there. This movie had a huge impact on me. I also remember the tv station broadcasted it as a "kids movie" >_>

  • this be a good film to redo.. better graphics and a better voice like James E Jones

  • is there a book with sketches?

  • This movie kicks ass

  • Fairy prostitutes...Y'KNOW, FOR KIDS![/Nostalgia Critic]

  • @ToruKun1 This isn't a kid's show. Just because something is a cartoon doesn't necessarily mean that it was intended for children. This is one of many cartoons meant for an ADULT audience.

  • @MissRedDawn

In the DVD commentary/behind the scenes feature for Wizards, Ralph Bakshi said something about how he intended Wizards to be a kid's movie, hence the..."[insert inappropriate shit here], FOR KIDS!" joke.

  • @MissRedDawn this movie is rated pg, retard research before you smart off to someone

  • @TheMadHatter1720 I wasn't even talking to YOU, so calm the hell down and get a life. What do you do, troll these boards looking for someone to argue with? The other person replied to my post and obviously did not need or ask you to defend them, so kindly stay out of our conversation and mind your own business. For someone who lectures others about not smarting off to other people, you do plenty of it yourself!

  • @TheMadHatter1720 And just so you don't get any ideas about getting to take more of your aggression out on me by continuing an argument where you're only going to continue to act childish and call me more names, let me make it crystal clear that I am DONE talking to YOU. You can say whatever you want but you won't be getting any more replies from me because I have better things to do with my time than fight with trolls. Go pick fights with someone else.

  • @MissRedDawn My apologies, then. Seems awfully strange that something like this would be intended for kids... it definitely isn't appropriate for them.

  • @MissRedDawn

Ralph Bakshi is just a weird, weird guy. :P

  • @ToruKun1 can you tell me where to find it if nostalgia critic reviewed this? lol XD

  • @MajorHarvestMoonFan

Nostalgia Critic didn't review this, but his brother mentioned a while ago on their forum that their "YOU KNOW, FOR KIDS!" joke stemmed from them watching the behind-the-scenes documentary for Wizards.

  • @ToruKun1 oh really? well thats to bad i was hopin he had :P

    thanks though lol

  • I think old animation like this is the best

  • Thanks for uploading this I haven't seen it since I was six.

  • (Excuse for my english, I'm Italian...) I hope that will be made a videogame based on Final Fantasy for the gameplay and on this film for the plot...

  • Fuckin' twins, how do they work?

  • this is s***

  • hookers?!

  • Man, I'm really starting to get annoyed with this whole "these guys are deformed, so they must be evil" trope. It gets old really fast, and most of the time, the bad guys wind up looking cooler than the heroes anyway.

  • @TheAtroxious It's the old archetype: "If they are not like us, then they are evil". And if you think that bad guys looks more cooler than the heroes, it means you like evil. Joke.

  • @AlllexL As they say on TVTropes, Evil Is Sexy.

  • @TheAtroxious So, Good is Ugly?

  • @AlllexL Seems so. Or just plain, boring, average.

  • Thank you for uploading this, I haven't seen it since I was a teenager.

  • Man, I've always loved those awsome round horse things Necron 99 and the others ride! Thanks for uploading!

  • Love the way she says fireballs......

  • Necron 99 looks like Bender

  • @fairyrath necron 99 looks like cobalt 60 by vaughn bode aswell!

  • @fairyrath OH shit he fukn does...

  • Anthony!

  • wizards is a way better film then avatar hands down! i love this movie so much!!

  • @nikkimew

You mean because both Avatar and Wizards are Sci-fi fantasy movies that deal with environmentalism? this movie was one of the inspirations to Avatar since Cameron adores this movie. Would you also compare Wizards to Ferngully, Heavy Metal and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (a.k.a. Warriors of the Wind)?

  • In my opinion one of the best animation films! One of my fav. as a kid! I love this

  • I've spent ages trying to find a related video about this movie.. i was born in 1976 and i watched it with my mom when i was almost 5 years old... but I never forget it... This is such a precious gift to me.. thanks for posting it... if you can please post Rock Odyssey.. that's a great movie too...

  • Before James Cameron's Avatar, there was this movie. I mean both Avatar and this movie deal with the same issues about the eco-system in the future and the idea of technology vs. magic. I'm sure Cameron is a fan of this movie when he wrote Avatar in 1993.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! AHHH I just fell in love with you all over again!

  • i love this!

  • this is trippy and awesome

  • The Intro Gave Me A Massive Hard On!!!

  • "The world blew up"

    The end, go home.

  • DAMN

  • Want an apocalyptic fantasy? Watch 9!

  • Wait a second....Delia, queen of the fairies???? But I thought that was Richard Simmonds!?

  • I'llhave some of whatever she,s smoking

  • damn!! i mean all new born babies are ugly but black wolf....SCARY!!! i know if i popped that out i would take it to the river and drown it.

  • DRUGS!

  • everyone add me i need to know all about the illuminati magi and wizards

  • most of

this is actually depicted from a old indian legend i read in school somethinh about a turtles back or something
