  • @firstsack This a Don Nix song. Done by everybody.

  • Tell it, my sweet baby Leon. There's no other man but you.

  • i'm in maryland, but i agree with your in-depth analysis. rock-on, tulsa!

  • cool but I like Freddie King's version better

  • OMG I just got pregnant!!!!

  • h-e-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-o!

  • cool!! that's rock fucking roll!

  • JJ is cool as a cucumber. Leon is smoldering, like a lava flow.

  • @leosagcap5910 exactly. just like a lava flow.

  • Love and Light...

  • I can't remember how many times I've liked this video

  • from a day - when alcohol, tobacco, women, rock, good times - were good for the health....bugger...bring it back....I'd rather live 60 years than 90 boring years !

  • Okie proud. We didn't just give yall Garth and Toby we gave you the way we roll on Tulsa time! J's wife Christine lookin hot as usual. Thanks Reggie for the Union. Didja know that Ronnie Dunn was one of the Shelter People back in da day along with Rita Coolidge?

  • @luvtotruck When I met Leon on his bus in Tulsa Ronnie Dunn was there and I asked him what he was doing there and he said "we ALL love Leon Russell". I had no idea there was an early connection. Thanks for the trivia tidbit.

  • @luvtotruck ronnie dunn...thats interesting

  • @luvtotruck OMG! I can't believe you remember that!

  • really do love these guys! have had the privilege of seeing them both, more than once!

  • 二人の偉大オクラホマ・タルサ人、JJ・ケール、レオン・ラッセルによる、ご機嫌ロック・クラシック"GOING DOWN"、昨晩 #bigsp で"オーキー"がかかりつい震えが!

  • yep!

  • Really awesome total syncrinicity.rock on with our Rock n, Roll. Thank you!

  • Brilliant=but I want to know whch idimension the organist goes for his clothes

  • I wanna know HOW the fuck a family guy video led me to this one?

  • @relimes It was fate, pure and simple.

  • This guy, is all it takes. And withJ J cale(For his first time with Leon,) Now

That is HARD ROCK, at it's best. Agree? The hippie3375.........Out!

  • love this shit

  • leon russell is one of those great musical writers and performers who's been around a very long time and makes who ever he plays with amazing too!! HE'S THE BEST THERE IS!!......ROCK ON BRO!!

  • Rock and Roll!!!!!

  • LOVE these guys!

  • Ah, the legendary "Tulsa Sound." Leon Russell is a one and only. Never anybody like like; never will be. It took Elton John, of all people, to get the recognition and honor for Leon that he so richly deserves. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • OHHHHHHH YAYYYYYYYYY - thank you!!! xxxx

  • Fantastisch

  • @Corneille1952 some fined playersh heres

  • Love it - glasses off and smiling! What a fox.

  • Due giganti della musica !!

  • Watching this makes me feel more like a woman than a "lady". God, Leon is one high steppin leather fox!

  • @kathleenb1947 Perfectly said!

  • Correct me if I'm, wrong, but Leon had this song on the Shelter People album(the album that had "Alcatraz"). It wasn't him singing,it was a floppy promo record stuffed in that album, and it was a recording of "Going Down" by some group, and Jeff Beck was playing lead on it!

  • Look up "JJ Cale/Leon Russell/Paridise Studios" for more of this sessions. Hot stuff.

  • Leon looks here like Chewbacca :)

  • LEON RUSSELL IZ A TRUE TULSA ROCKER,JJ CALE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HIDDEN TREASURE-ROCK ON-OKIES 1111111111111

  • Now you can see how Clapton just sort of gravitated to these two guys.

  • Humbuckerz, YOU are SO right!! Thanks and a tip o' the hat for posting this fantastic version of 'Goin' Down'. JJ Cale and Leon have a powerhouse sound going here.

  • I'm going back to Chatanooga.

  • Don't know about an album, but you can get the DVD "JJ Cale In Session At the Paradise Studios 1979 'featuring Leo Russel'". It's beyond amazing.

  • two greats..........n then some

  • Can somebody tell me what album this is from??

  • this is good.

  • ROCK N ROLLLLLL !!!!

  • Sad to see that Leon is still using the tobacco drug. I wish he was in excellent health and that we could have him here playing all that great music forever, but he probably won't last much longer, because of the weapon of mass destruction we know as the tobacco drug.

  • @tripjet999 You do realize that this was recorded in 1979?

  • @tripjet999

Comment on the artist, the video, the song, music , whatever. Save your insipied rhetoric for some other site. I've never met you and already I don't like you!

  • @tripjet999

rather die young than without sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll

  • The very first time I saw Leon Russel I was living in the Bay Area Blew me the F**k away this was the most laid back cat I'd ever seen beyond ultra cool and to listen to Elton John give such praise and marks not too bad for an OKIE wwhaddya think!!!!JJ Cale And Leon Russel doesn't get much better than that!!!!

  • O Leon - give me more!!!!

Takes me back to my teenage years when you could turn the stereo right up without worrying:)

  • Toe tappin, love it. travelin lite, loves it

  • Leon's rockin that Moses look ;-)

  • @LifeinSlowLane....I have two words for you. Tulsa Sound!

  • JJ also one of my favorites!!!!! wow!!!

  • Rock it Leon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I couldn't agree more: this is the genuine article, the heart and soul of rockabilly rock 'n rock. Both of these guys are living legends, institutions all on their own. They've been cranking this stuff out for 40 years, it hasn't slowed down a beat. Leon Russell wrote a song for Eric Clapton, "Blues Power": fantastic number, but you never hear it on the radio. Leon's done great stuff with Willie Nelson--so satisfying to the soul!

  • Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'd really like to know what's NOT to like about this?

  • Leon looks like a BAD ASS! LOVE the screech he adds in there.

  • Leon looks like a BAD ASS!

  • These two together are amazing.....but Leon just rocks it. He is so good, it's almost hard to take.............

  • I find myself posting on many Leon Russell videos.I just cant say enough. When it comes to JJ Cale and Leon together...Good God almighty.

  • @Mlczdk1 Amen and ditto to that, brother/sister! Just aren't enough words!

  • .... and we got merlin on the keys...

  • Yeah Baby, its rock n'roll!

I love it,. can't get enough of it

  • Two legends of Tulsa!

  • Makes me want to do a little Victor Silvester.

  • Love that " Tulsa Sound"

  • Nothing better. Suffering from spinal problems and this really makes my feet move. Awesome.

  • The one and only, of his kind Mr. Leon Russell should have been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 40 years ago and could have been even earlier depending on what authority you ask!

  • could it get ANY better than this.......

  • The languid singing really works on this

  • Dog Turd Boogie!! Wonderful

  • gonna replay me that mutha fucker

  • fuckn rocked big time!

  • that wah-wah is awsome

  • wooooohooooohooooo

  • More hiippies Going Down down ddddddownnnn. & Fender Rhodes, typ Blues brothers...best wishes.

  • Next neglected Rock 'n'Roller: Warren ZEVON!!!!!!!

  • @konopelli AMEN to that! I love Warren Zevon. It was a terrible loss when he passed away.

  • To the guy who uploaded this - Yes ladies and gentlemen ... -- AMEN

  • goin back to chatanooga

  • good good good

  • "I don't know whats worse, your solo or mine' Hahaha

  • What a great vid! Thanks!

  • This sounds like a garage band...LMAO. The vocals are horrible and half the guys are either out of tune or playing the wrong chord. But it has a nice early R&R groove. Solid bass and drums, nothing spectacular.

  • @BigDaddyblues57 They didn't have autotune or any computers, just their heart and soul to it...

  • leon and elton john snl ? they jammed

  • leon russell and elton john snl? they jammed

  • man do these guys make it look easy or what fantastic

  • fantastic when is leon and jj going to get back together and tour it would be unbelievable and bring elton along maybe thesre guys could bring real rock and roll music back

  • aries (Leon) and saggitarius (JJ): a fiery rock and roll combination :D

  • These guys dont seem to interested.

  • JJ, loose the comb-over. I remember your days at the Casa Del here in Tulsa.

  • Totally awesome. Got to get my albums out..... Thanx for sharing. Why can't I post to Facebook. Doesn't give me that option.

  • @51kitten8

Had the same problem, I wrote that Facebook is Censoring, that is a HOT and a Key term that is flagged, Later, I wrote I am locked out of sharing button from you tube from my youtube site. It has recently been restored, by my surprise…Directoreo

  • HEAVY best version of this song I'm going + buying new speakers just for this!

  • Leon Russell is now in the Hall of Fame

  • would loved to have been a fly on the wall during these sessions.

  • God this puts today's music to shame thats if you call todays crap music. i may be getting on in years but the guys from this era keep me young at heart. May they keep on rocking forever

  • @CarliaRay Amen to that! Today's musicians just have no clue as to what REAL music is. Music made with soul and emotion. I never get tired of hearing this stuff. It brings back great memories from growing up.

  • I can see why elton John was scared of him in the early 70's.

  • Let's be honest..love both guys..but this is sub-standard performance to put it mildly...someone's chokin' cat over here... if u know anythin' 'bout music..IT'S A FACT..!

  • @Mr63PB

    so what its still swinging

  • Sheeeeiiiittttttt....would love to see a show anything close to this. Two big dogs of real rock history.

  • I can listen to this over and over again...just like way back in the good ol days.

  • so gut ........!!!!!!!!!

  • so g.......

  • Got my big feet in the window and my head is on the ground...they forgot the words and Leon gives J.J. a wink. I love this. Leon is an insane singer.

  • Thank you for posting this awesome jam from two of my favorite musicians!!

I played JJ Cale's "Naturally" and Leon Russell's "Will O the Wisp" albums til they wore out. Was lucky to see JJ perform in 1975.

  • Was that a BLUNT Leon put down on the piano at 0:05? It sure looked like one to me.

  • First, I don't know how there could be 15 people that didn't like this. More importantly, this really is what rock & roll is about. These folks are having fun and playing their butts off. I've probably seen a thousand comments from youngsters saying they wished someone was making this kind of music today on various songs on here. So why isn't someone doing this stuff today? Where are the kids that are gonna keep rock & roll alive for the next generation like this?

  • Nicer camera work .........NOT!

  • Did I just die & go to heaven?

  • like honestly who can "dislike" this video??

  • Awesome!!!Thank you for Leon...and JJ Cale, too!! WOOO!!!

  • this is great. but as usual, cale's vocals are weak.

  • is that max middleton next to Leon?

  • I live in Detroit area too, guess you never made it to the old Ark or Magic Stick or Sully's or Harpo's or Royal Oak Music Theater or Cobo Hall

  • @dsm811 Oh, I've been to most of them. In my youth, I had the honor of being at Cobo for the recording of both J. Geils "Full House" and Bob Seger's "Live Bullet." Also Ted Nugent's "Whiplash Bash" was a New Year's Eve must see. As the years went by and the bands I favored played in smaller and smaller venues, I followed them. Harpo's, Royal Oak, etc. My comment was only referring to the immense amount of happy Tulsa is gonna experience the night their hometown hero is inducted.

  • @dsm811 I don't want to give the wrong impression, because I was born, raised and lived in Detroit for all of my 54 years. I grew up on Motown, rock, blues and jazz. I know first hand the fantastic music that Detroit produces. But, like old time Motown music, Tulsa has a sound and feel that is truly it's own and like Motown it can't be duplicated. You have to go to the source to completely experience the joy.

  • If only we could get these guys to live forever then my grandkids could hear what they are missing. God am I glad I grew up through the 60' and 70'.If you weren't out of it you weren't in it and if you remembered it you didn't have a good time.Whata BLAST

  • @CarliaRay I'm a young cat but I love the blues and anything with soul. Youre lucky to've lived. Right on man. Peace. -Cody Lee Meece

  • @amber53684 We are all lucky to have access to this amazing music............yes, I lived it, and am grateful.

Check out Don Nix stuff.......all of it.....his :Alabama State Troopers: is soulful art !

    Bless you !

  • I want a beard like that!!!

  • @beno69m im so glad i found someone else writig THAT under a youtube video

  • They look like that because they're smacked out...they both rock it

  • Leon's my new favorite

  • leon the best of the best hippies!!!!!!peace love and ya know the rest!!!

  • My lord- we were all so young then . . . .

  • Cool countrified version. Should have applied it to some Zeppelin or Sabbath. Hmmmmm.

  • I saw in JJ Cale in 77 and he just sat in a chair and played while a drunk dude fell off the second floor balcony almost hitting a stand of mic stands. the guy must have been drunk enough he didn't get hurt but JJ didn't miss a beat

  • @tnpicker1 thats awesome! wouldve loved to see that!!!

  • oh shit...

  • :38 Ladies and Gentleman, Gandalf sings the blues.

  • He should't stare in the fucking camara that much. Probably because the"Master Of Space & Time" had a hang up about ,being made to look stupid. 0:552:503:114:20 which he more or less admitted in a Mojo interview.

  • @PAULLONDEN A hang up you obviously do not share.

  • @judecreek2

I recognize something there, but then...I'm no professional performer.

In that respect the man is lightyears ahead of simple old me.

  • Leon is as a huge talent...but,we'all know who is the "Goin Down" man.

    Oh Fuck-n Yeaah!!

  • Leon Russell's not in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame?! WTF??!

  • @rhellman consider that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just not 'big' enough for a talent like Leon Russell, and his induction would just highlight the political and commercial nature of the thing. I doubt he would show up anyway. It just wouldn't matter to The Man.

  • @rhellman I agree.

  • @rhellman ,

Thats the truth, of all people , Leon Russell is not in R&R Hall of Fame....

I been posting everywhere i can That ALL OF US THAT LOVE LEON Need to flood every live morning radio show with phone calls, and buy no more music of anyones UNTIL LEON IS INDUCTED..

HE DESERVES IT,,, AND,,,, WE OWE IT TO HIM

LETS BOICOTT EVERY MUSIC STORE & FLOOD EVERY RADIO SHOW W/CALLS !!!

  • @thedeadbeats

THANKS MAN, YOU MADE MY DAY !!!

I can rest alittle easier now,, soon as the rush wears down !

    ROCK ON LEON !!!!!

  • @FIRECRACKER392

    HE MADE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @rhellman The RnR hall of fame has always been a joke. Right from the start

  • @rhellman He is now.

  • @rhellman He is now!

  • @rhellman HE IS NOW

  • @rhellman Well actually he was just inducted. They're broadcasting the ceremony on Fuse TV soon, just saw it on their website. It was about time though.

And Cale isn't inducted as well. I think Clapton said something like this in his auto-biography "Cale isn't inducted, but they inducted me three times, obviously they don't know what they're doing", don't remember if that was the exact quote, but it was something like that.

  • @rhellman You posted this a while back I see, but as you probably know Leon Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2011. Better late than never, but I think he should have been inducted about 20 years ago!

  • @rhellman

tnx for elton, he is now. but yeah... huge fail.

  • @rhellman He is now!!!

  • @rhellman he got inducted this year!

  • Two bad dudes man.

  • Hello,

Please listen to my one man band vids, there is much more music to come very soon when im done recoding it. please stay tuned.

    Thanks and peace,

    Justin Boerema

  • Just out of high school, I spent the summer of 72 out on the road with a carnival show touring PA, Ohio & W.Va. Many of the people I would meet were the old west coast hippies in flower painted vans, totally mellowed out people. Quite a few after hours evenings were spent hangin out with Leon growlin in the background.

  • @StumpCreekSentinal " Growlin in the Background " !!! Well Put...I love it....Thats Leon.....Growlin in the Background.....Growl On Leon...you nailed him stump

  • JJ and Leon are Gods!

  • JJ is a God of sorts, Leon is so on point, & Lakeland is super dooper dreamy !!!

  • Great to see The Union album with Elton generating a lot of buzz- excellent reviews, and Leon's Retrospective album selling well at amazon now

  • He is playing that piano.... A very talented musician and superb songwriter.

  • Leon Russell is a legend.

  • SO glad I've seen Leon at least twice over the past many years. JJ Cale is no slouch either, but when Leon is around, look out!
