When I was a kid I never felt the desire to own anything until I saw the Amiga 500 in this advert, even now it's what I think about when I hear that song :)
I "begged" my mum and nan to get me one of these for Christmas when i was 13 after seeing this ad! Everyone had one at school. I had to make do with an Atari Lynx! :-l By the time I did get one 2 years later, the Amiga was irrelevant.. Ah memories. Haha
sweet memories...I remember seeing a friends A500 and thinking it was greatest thing in existence, I got an A600 for christmas and after much gaming spent many hours going blind on DPaint 4 and Octamed :) good times.
I remember this all too well. I got an Amiga 500+ Cartoon Classics pack for Xmas '91, mostly based on this advert. My folks took me into Dixon's and NEARLY got me a ST, until I reminded them of this advert and that I wanted an Amiga.
This sure does bring back some nostalgic memories.
I remember asking for an Amiga 500 for xmas, and I got a Cartoon Classics pack (same as the one advertised) BUT it turned out that I actually had an Amiga 500+ (so had 1MB RAM instead of 512KB RAM)
My xmas was great that year.
I've been after finding this commercial for ages, I remembered Zoe's cover of 'Sunshine On A Rainy Day' which was a top 40 single at the time as well.
I remember asking for an Amiga for xmas and when I opened it up my parents had bought me the "education pack". So I had no games on xmas day to play and I was wearing a fixed smile hiding my disapointment. I had to go to my friends house and he gave me some copies of games. It was a great machine for it time. Strange the way the company kept making bad choices with the multimedia systems they made. I suppose their cd32 couldn't compete with other consoles.
i would pay anything to get that feeling again... Alll the copied games and being in that little Amiga club. Its a great computer well designed and well produced... dunno why it died...
I mean those designers could have waited 3 years and made a playstation clone or whatever?....
I don't remember seeing this ad at all..... yet that song and the amiga are inexplicably linked in my head...
Whats also wierd is i had all 3 of those games + Deluxe paint, in those small boxes. But im sure i did not have that bundle set.
infact im sure i originally had the simpsons big box version but it didnt work for some reason so i had the small box as a replacement. (can anybody confirm if there was a bigbox for the simpsons?)
This ad dates from the second half of 1991. I know cos we got our Amiga for Xmas 1991 - based primarily on the excitement created by this ad! We had the Cartoon Classics pack. Zoe's cover of 'Sunshine on a Rainy Day' also another personal nostalgia favourite for me. Thanks for upload!
Fire and Ice, Lemmings, Jaguar Racing, Indiana Jones, Settlers.... and how without fail, the system would crash right before you were about to save a game. :)
wooow i never thought i`d find this advert, thanks so much for the post, i was only 7 at the time this came out and i still remember it fondly, amiga is by far the most fun i have ever had with a computer, i had the a600 and a1200, still got the a1200, i 030 50mhz 18mb ram, hd, cdrom, towered it back in the day it was my DO all machine, i did everything with it.
The 2...and i mean 2 boys in our entire school who got the ST had the piss taken out of them incessantly throught the early 90's!!!!!!
one of the claimed it was 'good for music mixing' or something and the other one claimed his parents got mugged by some rudeboy at dixons brent cross who convinced them the atari ST was better..
@maxlogica - basically that kid at school was right, the ST had built in midi which meant it was a great machine to use for music production along with the likes of Cubase for ST and so on, but it was only good for midi control / sequencing etc. With regards to direct recording and playback of 8-bit sampled sounds then the Amiga blew the ST out of the water, and then did a little shit on it's head for good measure!
piracy killed the amiga. Anti-piracy saved the xbox. loved my amiga

I remember this ad! I wanted one so badly but alas the parents said "tough"! O_O
If the lad hadn't been acting so "hip'n'radical" this would have been a top advert. Love the song too!

Maybe all the copied games killed them?

@strunway Bit late, but you answered your own question in two words "copied games". Yes i was responsible too.
bazfanv2 1 year ago
@bazfanv2 yeah but copies are everywhere. The sold more consoles at £399 than anyone cos of the copied games...
Id say in the time I was growing up 1 person in that early teen age group had an Amiga... and that means disks, mice, replacement PSUs, ??
