@paul4608 Of course, Perhaps you were pretty wrecked when you wrote your comment. Of course, Black Beauty would be a good title for a porn film. Spongebob Squarepants could also be a good ttile for a skinny flick, too.
@pix046 Oh, no nothing of mine was wrecked its just sometimes you,ve got to wounder if some one wasn,t trying to sell porn litrature on the side it was illegal back then. the title is a bit racist as well blue peter was a bit that way as well they where all at it.
Always loved this programme because i adored horses, sadly my mum died when I was thirteen; I think this series was out in 1971 around the same time. Let me know if I am wrong. But even now at age 53 this tune makes me want to cry.................Its a haunting tune for me but still beautiful in so many ways times of innocence and wondering. Kids dont know the meaning of that now sadly.
Thanks for putting this video on.

@Felfy39 England's not an island!! Fuck, you're from this country, how don't you even know that? Did Wales and Scotland suddenly vanish into thin air? Im sure you'd like that too! And fyi, the English aren't the original inhabitants either - you only go back to the 5th century!
This music is by Lionel Bart, who also composed the music for the musical "Oliver!", as well as "Living Doll" sung by Cliff Richard and the theme to "From Russia With Love"., amongst many others.
@truckerboy93 I KNEW I knew it from somewhere! Thanks! I was watching I'm Alan Partridge yesterday and it was on that but I recognised it from somewhere else that wasn't that and wasn't Black Beauty.
Brings flooding back memories of a girlfriend I let go, somehow. She gave me so many signals but I just didn't see them This was, is I guess, her favourite tune. Can't live in the past but a visit is ok.
I'm sure that we'd all like to be young again, but if we're stuck with the age we are, then I'm so glad that I was a youngster in the 70's. Marc Bolan, Kung Fu, On The Buses, and Black Beauty! Happy days!!!!
I'm just 14 but i have the Black beauty movie (: it sure dose bring back memories when i used to sit there and watch it and every time i watched it i would cry over the sad parts :( i still do cry ! this movie made me want a horse for such along time and my dream came true :) i now have a beautiful horse named Storm-Lee <3

Winter Sundays in the 1970s: The Big Match, Kung Fu, and Black Beauty with the yummy Judy Bowker and the yummier Stacy Dorning (I was 15 so having the hots for 14 year old Stacy was OK).
this music still brings a lump in my throat and a tear to my eye i wanted a horse like beauty for ever and now i can say i have one his name is Mr.Darcy and i love him so much :D
I was only a little boy back then but boy did I hate and despise this series and will do so for all eternity.
Mind you, I later read a comic-book version of the original story and that wasn't half as bad. But then that was dramatic while the tv-series was reset to zero again every week. No dramatic development and just pandering to the braindead horse adoration of most girls.
I remember this well from childhood. Childrens TV drama in the 70's was 1000 times better than the crap we get nowadays. Kids these days really don't know what they missed out on. Thanks for the nostalgia.
You can tell this was from a generation ago. If it were on television today the closing credits would be squeezed to one side and a patroniser (sorry - T.V. announcer) would not allow you to hear this classic music by waffling over it stating the blooming obvious about what is coming up next.
T.V. producers today are hiring second rate composers because their output won't be heard anyway. Maybe that's why most of todays themes are not as memorable. That's my middle-aged waffle over.
@tudgefunnel Sentimental five-part adaptation of Anna Sewell's novel, set in 19th-century England. Buoyed by a cast of TV and film veterans, the lavish miniseries tracks the noble steed's adventures over a 13-year period, beginning with a separation from loving owners Luke Gray and Joe Green.
It's a little known fact that when you film a horse it doesn't come out on film looking like a horse. This opening sequence is actually Nerys Hughes naked sellotaped to a sheepdog. It's true!
@rapideyeproductions are you kidding me?? what about Skippy the bush Kangaroo! how can you have forgotten him, as far as kangaroo's go he was well clued up!
Oh, wow! I am in my late 40's and this theme track to the ‘Black Beauty’ episodes is embedded into my childhood psyche.

Then off out to play....

Brilliant presentation. I live in Watford now and noticed that this was filmed in Rickmansworth at Stockers farm. Is the place still the same? The music and memories of the '72 series will live long. Great stuff.
You know, I was 8 when this was made in 1972 and even at that age I knew this was special. I was never a great fan of the programme, but I used to watch it just for these magical titles. The music, and that horse galloping through the water, used to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Absolutely wonderful. If the 60s were the golden age of music, then the 70s were the golden age of kids tv.
I loved Black Beauty. When I got 21 I FINALLY saw my dream come true and bought my first horse. I remember the first time I dare to go faster. The theme of BB went through my head. Black Beauty is gone and sadly so is my first horse. But this music always reminds of her. I had several other horses after her, but never one as friendly and loyal as she was.
I am shaking my head when reminding me as a 6yo boy watching my holy Knight Rider and got pissed when my 2 years younger sister came switching channel to Black Beauty Series.... xD
@GOKAN68 I'm exactly the same. See when Beauty is cantering through the river.....My heart soars. When I had my first pony (who was black too!) I would be singing the theme tune as we cantered up the side of the field. She's gone now and this happened about 28 years ago. I'm 40!
@fastfire97 Cannot agree more All the English Populace that possess Money/Brains/Intelligence/Influence have migrated to Australia/New Zealand There is no 'England' anymore It's just an island full of repressed minorities Yes, that includes me; the original English-Speaking born & bred minority The Human-Rights legislation does not apply to me because I'm 1 - Honest 2 -Law Abiding 3 - A Full Tax-Payer 4 - English 5 - Over-Worked and under-paid 6 - White! (In England, that's a Joke)!!
It is tossers like you that make this island uninhabitable. Barely competent terminal whingers whose grotesquely inflated sense of self-entitlement gave us everything from Thatcher to the Complaints Culture. You have not one thought or opinion that doesn't come from a Daily Mail headline or BNP leaflet. Australia has an enormous outback for you to play the Great White Man in. You may see some blacks but don't worry, they won't see you. You pathetic little bigoted fuckwit.
@fastfire97 Am 40 and couldn't agree more, much of what had been broadcast during that era was very British indeed, and based on many famous British authors for our indigenous population. The UK as a country is finished and is a bland, characterless, shit and hell hole and if i win the lottery i will most definitely emigrate
@GOKAN68 I'm 33 and it does the same to me. Happier simpler times of when my parents were alive and well, Dad worked, Mum the housewife, Primary School, surprise toys, great home cooking, no worries, no cares, no bills to concern myself with, happy, warm and safe. Oh how I wish I could be 4 again...
Always loved this music, and can remember the series from when I was very small. It was a huge disappointment when I tried to read the REAL book by Anna Sewell a few years later, and found it was nothing like the series. :(
There used to be a little bit on the end of the end credits sometimes where the music would finish and you would hear a whinny and a sort of a horn reprise with a clip of Beauty nodding his head.
@matelot95 I certainly do remember that little bit at the end. I think it was only used for a short while during a particular season of adventures. It ran for two seasons with about 52 episodes.
Yer too right. I loved this tune and always watched Black Beauty. Im 44 now but we danced to van der valk in first school PE. We used to get asked which tune she would play on piano and it was always same answer lol
this brings back happy memories as a child on a sunday night cheers to chris evans who has it on r2 in a feature gooose bumps every time, bring back proper telly
Wonderful i was in love with that horse! Other tunes that take me back are White Horses, Robinson Crusoe, Secret Garden and Picturebox.......great days!
the good old days, when you used play out all day and then nip home for a bite to eat and then go back out,no bills to pay and no worries, now its all bills and lots of worries :O( GIVE ME MY CHILDHOOD BACK PLEASE!!!
@MYBIGKINDHEART Me too, I remember watching this in the 70's with my late sister. I still get choked when I see that beautiful creature run across that field.
It is a gorgeous theme tune. Absolutely lovely.

I get goosebumps when i hear this, wonder if the kids of today will have the same memories as we do
cuteirishbaby 10 months ago
There used to be a little bit on the end of the end credits sometimes where the music would finish and you would hear a whinny and a sort of a horn reprise with a clip of Beauty nodding his head.
Anyone remember that or is it just me#?
matelot95 10 months ago 2
@matelot95 I certainly do remember that little bit at the end. I think it was only used for a short while during a particular season of adventures. It ran for two seasons with about 52 episodes.

musicmanoo 1 year ago 80
@musicmanoo I understand what you mean for sure, but an adult is only a child who earns money. Maybe that's why we are here. :)
animatetime 9 months ago
@animatetime I think you're right in the context of compassion. As adults we should never lose that.

@MYBIGKINDHEART Me too, I remember watching this in the 70's with my late sister. I still get choked when I see that beautiful creature run across that field.
killaoflimmus 1 year ago
@MYBIGKINDHEART I think it's also tears of sadness for days long past - innocence, happy memories etc, never to be recaptured.
