concerning the FLO drum style,Jerry Edmonton was the drummer during the early era (& this recording).He had a distinctive style w/ powerfull delivery.Sadly,Jerry was fatally injured in a car accident in 1993.

This is one of my favorite songs, period. It was from one of Steppenwolf's last albums, right? This song is what I would call "art rock", something that's sadly missing from today's scene.
The long piano solo is absolutely brilliant, a work of genius; it begins as kind of a classical piece and morphs and builds into really funked-out blues/jazz.
These guys, and the times that produced them, were absolutely great.
They never were chosen for the Rock Hall of Fame 'cause its a corp-based yank job to get the artists to pay for induction...creating more catalog sales.I wouldn't have paid to be inducted either..JK is one of the smarter rockers,after all he survived all these years in a cut throat music biz.

They never were chosen for the Rock Hall of Fame 'cause its a corp-based yank job to get the artists to pay for induction...creating more catalog sales.I wouldn't have paid to be inducted either..JK is one of the smarter rockers,after all he survived all these years in a cut throat music biz.

One of America's most underrated bands, I've been listening to these guys for 30 years and they rock! Check out "Hour of the Wolf" album if you can get a hold of it. This song and "Monster" are their best efforts...

here here!...a mryiad of top 40 hits,,yet theyre hardly mentioned when it comes to the heavyweights of the 70s...born to be wild by itself is an american classic,and the list goes on,magic carpet ride,the pusher, monster, etc..

lotsa memories with these tunes,working for the railroad way out in the woods for 3 mos.we had this album and kinda knew the songs by hard after a while,but what a great band they were,mind you i'm talking like 1971

This is one of the albums that helped me while I was stationed overseas with the Army.

I still have all the LP's made by The Stepenwolfs before 1976 - most of them from back then, also 'For Ladies Only' :-)
Bought them second hand in the late 80's whenever I could find them (preferably the original).
One of my favourite bands.

It's a damned shame that most people think of Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet ride when they think of Steppenwolf. I remember For Ladies Only album cover with the infamous dickmobile on the inside cover. The issues this great band addressed are so relevant today it's hard to believe their song are almost 40yrs old. Above all that as far as I know they're still not in that piece of shit Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfucking believeable

Being 21 I never heard this song on the radio despite my best efforts at calling all sorts of rasio stations and requesting it. What a cool song. And that's a nice and hot vid too!

This song was a radio single, but of course a much shorter version without the piano solo. I think the short version is on some of the greatest hits CDs, but who'd even want that when they could hear the album version?
