Just stumbled upon the archive of this thread. It seems like you did everything you did. At least he passed in a warm place and feeling loved rather than cold and by the street.

It was sad when I saw my dog kill a kitten in front of me. I was so mad at her. I tried to save it but my dog was too strong and I was afraid she'd bite me.
@dibstah I totally understand you. Same happened to me with my black lab and a cat. She got hold of the poor cat and almost killed it, I managed to make her let it go but the kitty was too injured so I ran to a nearby vet and paid so she could put it to sleep and stop its pain. I was mad at her too but then I realized it wasn't her fault but mine for not keeping her in that moment with a leash.
Feel free to check out my videos. I have 3 of my kittens, ages anywhere from under a day to about 4 wks old, it may give you a good gauge for age when "lil tater" gets older
It's so cute watching its attempts to keep itself up on its lil'paws! And the mewing~ I wonder if the tiles were a little cool for the kitten? I'm not too experienced with cats, so I don't know if the slight chill would bother them o3o I know walking on cold tiles first thing in the morning gives me the chills... brr.
Btw I was the anon who made the comment about the baked potatoe n_n; gosh it gets me hungry for one... ._.
