We have similar problems with missed strikes in Denmark, although we are mostly using our surface flies for northern pike and not bass, as it is not indigenous. The pike simply often misses the attack. If it happens, we often stop the retrieve and wait for a second attack using only the occasional "plop". The cardinal rule is: "Don't strike unless you feel the weight of the fish". Works brilliantly for me. Maybe it's worth a try. Tight lines from Denmark :)

What kind of line, reel, and rod would you recommend I get for Bass fishing. I am a begginer who has never fly fished before but would like to. I want to be able to get bluegill and bass. Should I get two poles for each?

@SinnerSBG if i were you, I'd just get something cheap to make sure you like it then get something nice. I know plenty of people who spent a whole lot of money anticipating getting hooked on fly fishing and ended up only going a couple times a year. Stick around the 4-7wt lines/reels, thats whats prime for bass fishing like this (higher the wt, the bigger the fish/tensile strength the setup can handle). IMO, id go 5wt all around, cant really go wrong with the brand since your just starting

This guy is having a ball! Bass on a fly rod is a adrenal charge that is unequaled IMHO. Note the size plug he is using and the size fish he is neting--big plugs-big fish. Watching this just makes me want to drag out the poppers and hit the road!!

I'm guessing this is Davis Lake here in Oregon - Davis is fly-only water. Used to be superb trout fishing - then someone illegally introduced largemouth bass, and they took off like wild fire. There's been grumbling about opening Davis up to gear fishing - to help rid the lake of the bass - but ODFW will have none of that, and it remains a fly-only body of water. Great fun if you like fly fishing for trout and bass in the same body of water, with a shot at getting decent sized fish.
