  • I believe they erected a statue to Mary Whitehouse, it was the only erection she ever approved of.

  • homofobia ftw

  • What about the muslim police officer that did NOT want to guide the Israeli embassy during Arabs protect outside of it. They assigned him to some other duties. Being a police officer, he is an government employee. He was NOT fired/sacked.

Guess this only applies to christians and NOT muslims. Interesting to which a former great country like the UK go down like the Roman empire did.

  • Good news!

  • Very cute, but 18 as an age of consent is ridiculously high. It would only lead to lots and lots of obviously misplaced statutory rape cases for gay and straight people alike.

Military enrollment is at 16 y.o. in the UK, for petey's sake.

  • Here in the US we have pharmacists who are allowed to refuse to fill a patient's prescription if they object to it on religious grounds, usually contraceptives or morning-after pills. I think it's absolutely revolting that somebody can refuse to do their job on religious grounds, as well as override the will of the doctor who's treating the patient. There are signs in pharmacies now saying that they reserve the right to refuse to fill perscriptions. Can you believe it's the 21st century?

  • I'm not sure if I'm ever comfortable with celebrating another person's death.

  • Reminds me of Hitchens commenting on Jerry Falwell's death

  • That's appropriate, Falwell was a similar type --- causing deliberate harm through religious bigotry.

  • The ex-husband of my youngest sister dropped dead of an aneurysm at age 32.

Some months later, someone came up to me and expressed shock at Mark's death. When they asked me how I was taking it, they seemed shocked at my response.

I said "I couldn't be happier. He was an asshole and I'm glad he's dead."

I agree with your view that death does not automatically confer goodness or honor on the deceased.

However, I did restrain my impulse to urinate on his grave. After all, a funeral was taking place

  • meh, feels like she's been re-incarnated into not once but as if sprinkled about, mostly spilling in a clump atop of Texas

thnx btw for taken your time an share'n your thoughts an view's, kinda helps me thru these hard an harsh times, were women in thse parts are critical, and shop for top petigreez for a stud, and magic underoo hero's (mormon church) halts an demonizes a ol'fellows chances to least find others to be sexually exuberant with,as women fall for shallow bullies of chaps

  • "Mary Whitehouse is alive in heaven"

Isn't one of the requirements to get into heaven.. is to be DEAD?

  • We gays should all be allowed to wed, GAY RIGHTS NOW!!!!!!!

  • When the legal age of homosexual age of consent was lowered from 18 to 16 in the uk, how many 16 years old's did you see campaigning for it..... none it was mostly 45 year old men with shaven heads in leather trousers and back packs.

  • Did you see the biopic with Julie Walters playing Whitehouse? Boy they did her some favours on that one!

The Islington Council story is great — 'victimised' indeed. If her 'principles' were so offended by the duties she was paid to do — I loved your emphasis on that point — she should've resigned and got herself another job. What did she do instead? Attempt to make her workplace accommodate her discrimination. What a twit. Great video!

  • I did see Julie Waters playing Whitehouse. To whom and in which sense did they do favours? Was Whitehouse even worse than Waters' portrayal? Horrors!

It sounds as though the Islington case is similar to the recent situation with the bus driver who refused to drive a bus with advertising of which he did not approve.

    I would simply have struckout the "probably" in the statement about non-existence of God. Then I would happily have driven the bus on the wrong side of the road ;}

  • Woot! I see too much of this. Some idiot working as something somewhere tries to get the very nature of their job altered as though they are immutable, when, in fact, they are simply voluntarily incompetent and unable to perform the job.

  • I apologize for the oxymoron in my earlier message, below: "religious reasons".

  • I hadnt spotted that, but Ill watch out for it in future! Good point, and well made too!

  • Great to hear the final outcome of this case. She should never have applied for the job if it disagreed with her narrow views. It's heartwarming to see good sense prevail.

  • I love smart people! Love the video.

  • I'll b happy 2 c this happen over here in the USA as well.....sigh....here's to hopin!!!!

  • "Where there is a reasonable religious belief, it should be accommodated..." That statement is rather hard to test since there is no such thing as a reasonable religious belief.

After all, religious beliefs are not based on reason. Especially in the so called "revealed" religion that Christianity purports to be.

Strange religion it is. Be supernice and friendly on Christmas and nasty for the rest of the year. I wish they had it in reverse: Be as nasty as you can one day and nice otherwise.

  • "The Christian Institute"? Sounds like where they ought to be locked up. Some other US-ian posters have noted that lately we have pharmacists and doctors who won't provide certain treatments or drugs for religious reasons. We also have Christians who shoot abortion doctors in the back because the doctors "have no respect for life"! But now that I've scooped the cat-boxes and put up my godless holiday lights, maybe I'll go prevent some gays from getting married. ;^} Have a holly jolly, Tenneral!

  • She was asked to do the job she signed a contract to do? Madness I say.

    (sarcasm hat reluctantly taken off)

It's a strange new act that people are choosing to not obey the contract they signed and then sueing the employer for then expecting them to carry out the contract. I thought that correct application of the law, would be a law suit against them for breach of contract.

  • Thank you for spreading the good news, tenneral. I had yet to hear the outcome of this case. Cases like this and ones involving pharmacists denying women contraceptives really make me upset. I was out holiday shopping today and I saw some rather risque lingerie and I wondered "If sex before marriage was against someone's religious beliefs, could they require customers to provide marriage certificates in order to purchase this lingerie or other intimate items?"

  • Sweet, like a ripe water melon. :)

Nice end result but I can't help wondering how she won the original case. Ah, Mary Whitehouse. How I would have liked to have belched (or worse) within her earshot and then given her a friendly wink. She had her nose to far in the air it's a wonder she could breath. FOUL woman.

  • warming.

  • These cases always bring up interesting issues. In the US, those that oppose the use of contraception do not have to sell those products if they work in retail outlets.

  • Well made video!

I believe there were similar problems with employees of the Western Isles council - the one place in the U.K. that makes Northern Ireland look "socially progressive".

I believe that gay couples aren't allowed to use Belfast city hall's "wedding suite" but have to make do with a room set aside for civil partnerships. :-(

  • I remember Mary Shytehouse, Micheal. Apparently, she would stay up all night (well, until broadcasts had ended, only 3 channels back then!) to see if there was any sign of nudity. A split second shot of a nipple would have sufficed to give her a stroke with the shock at the sight of such lucre! In reality, I think all she really needed was a good shag.

  • Woohoo! Back of the net!

  • YAY!! It is encouraging that things are headed in the right direction. Best of all is how people feel empowered to speak up when there are inequities. I really think that youtube can claim credit for some of the new openness, don't you? I would still be in the dark ages if I hadn't heard some of the intelligent and logical people giving their arguments in this forum. I am grateful.

  • 1000&1 thanks for this wonderful video, Tenneral, and a happy Saturnalia to you!

  • Good news indeed. Maybe supermarkets can start dismissing Mohammedans who don't want to handle alcohol or pork.

  • Her job is not her Religion. If she doesn't like it, she should be looking for a new job. Its quite simple. Quite how this woman thinks what she is doing is okay, is far beyond me. She should just lose her job for behaving like that. I couldn't walk into my college and say "I don't want to work with gay people, its against my religion" and still expect to be welcome there.

  • The lady can have a religious objection, but I don't see why she should have a job. Let's all hope there are no religious objections to ugly people getting married - I know I'd have no chance if there was. What about tall women and short men? I think these religious objections should be fully enumerated if we are to consider accommodating them. The thing with the Christian Institute is that it is a fighting legal fund bankrolled with US money. Another reason for us to part with our cash too.

  • Ah, finally someone who makes sense. I enjoy you're point of view as being poignant, intelligent, and a bit entertaing.

  • Lillian Ladele sounds like a stage name for a drag queen. Maybe she's packing something more than false outrage. To your video, I'm disgusted by the effrontery of christian pharmacists who don't doll out prescribed meds or muslim cocktail waitresses who protest for their employer wanting them to wear cocktail dresses and county clerks allegedly affronted by civil unions... etc

  • Unfortunately the spectre of Mary whitehouse lives on in the collective of prudes, bigots and net-curtain-twitchers she organised.

  • Brilliant as usual, Tenneral.

It's great to see a, uhm, mature person on YouTube actually speaking sense. :)

  • People shouldn't seek jobs if they believe their religious beliefs will interfere with their duties. Here in the US pharmacists not wanting to fill birth control prescriptions because of religion is the hot topic.

  • Really good and interesting video, as always!

  • It's tough when your religion doesn't allow you to follow the law, huh?! We have a similar situation with pharmacists who won't fill prescriptions for birth control pills because they're overly catholic.

Drop me a line or something - I'm very interested to know what you think of this video and whether or not you think it is a "hate crime". watch?v=dyB0gzTZg_Y

    Thanks!

  • Great video, drchaffee! That's whisking up some flavoursome divinity!!

  • Ha! A decisive blow in favor of reason and logic!
