  • Shut up and play the hits. Cant wait for the damn thing.

  • This song just makes my heart break every time I hear it.

  • This is the best live version that I've found. Fantastic attack, brilliant vocal. It also has a stronger guitar than the studio version. Best song of the 00's.

  • Thank You.

  • i'm speechless

  • That applaud at the end needed fireworks cos thats what this music deserves!!

  • I wish they didn't cut this song short. They remove one of the best parts of the song. Murphy still sings it unbelievably well though

  • Wow.

  • When he starts to sing where are your friends tonight the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time!

I miss LCD so very very Much!

  • i love the whole song but once he says thats how it strats its great!

  • Exhilarating rock and roll. The best song of the last decade.

  • jesus, this is pretty rad.

  • This song has so much energy but at the same time is relaxed. I love it!

  • I love songs like this that just build and build and build into something amazing. See also: You Can't Always Get What You Want.

The final 90 seconds of that song or this could be an orgasm to me.

  • I just jizzed.

  • this is one of my favorite songs ever recorded live -truly better than the recorded version....the energy just going up an up is undeniable!! love this band.

  • that tele tone is fucking boss.

  • I get the willies every time I watch this fuckin vid. Boom

  • This song doesnt make me happy at all, it makes me cry sometimes. This is coming from someone who doesnt cry at anything really. Still probably the greatest song of the last ten years.

  • @HunterOsk It's amazing if only for the way that Murphy bares his soul after living the sex, drugs and rock and roll life, whilst pondering if it was all worth it. I love this song even though it makes me sad.

  • fuuuck.

  • I just love the fact that Murphy uses those kind of mics.

  • Pat Mahoney - true beast.

  • This is a brilliant video and I think this live performance is even better than the full length version on the LP. The intensity is fantastic and the pace is unrelenting! Hope you don't mind but I've posted a link to this video from my "bestmusicofalltime" blog at wordpress!

  • Just sent this video to one of my mates, he said: "Yeah I'm listening to your LCD man... Is alright but the sound's ****"

Man... That songs great, and it's great live, the music really comes to life when it's played live. And they do a good job at it

  • The lineup James used for the Sound of Silver tour was the best LCD lineup. Pure magic.

  • I've always loved the recorded version of this song but they just KILL it live, apparently.

  • id kill to be in NYC for the last show later tonight. its hard to see your favorite band die. at least i got to see them. james murphy is god

  • my cousin Phil on bass!

  • @zeisler1 say hi to him for me

  • Comment removed

  • I love them. Obviously.

  • Awesome!

  • I love how much emotion Murphy puts into this song, it's SO powerful. Amazing.

  • DAMN IT WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS TONIGHT...

  • im going to get "all my friends" tattooed to salute my youth and my favorite song of all time.

  • @waggy55 I was thinking the same thing! haha i wanted to get "If I could see all my friends tonight" across my back

  • fucking great

  • This song is amazing !!! wow !

  • Would I be shot if I said I thought this was ten times better than anything produced by the Talking Heads??? hypothetically speaking of course...

  • @bassman31793 yes

but it certainly isn't far off it

  • And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand

You can sleep on the plane or review what you said

When you're drunk and the kids leave impossible tasks

You think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead."

Oh, if the trip and the plan come apart in your hand

Tou look contorted on yourself your ridiculous prop

You forgot what you meant when you read what you said

And you always knew you were tired, but then

    Where are your friends tonight

  • @northcountrybhoy These are the lyrics I'm finding all over the net, but they're not what I'm hearing. I'm pretty sure he's saying "the kids look impossibly tan," and "You can turn it on yourself."

  • @minusjason I always hear "the kids look impossibly tanned"

  • Very very intense, wow

  • They are so fucking good!

  • There is so win in this. The fact that that its just first to the fourth the whole way says so much about modern music in itself....

    and it builds the mononity

then the lyrics ... he has so much to tell u and he is only getting half out and he is sad about it... ;-)

  • It's weird how much better they sound live sometimes.

  • who the fuck are the 4 who didn't like this? 0_0

  • Damn' perfect...

  • I love how he just goes into a trance halfway through the song.

  • This music is awesome! And Nancy Whang is cute =)

  • the bassist needs to take center stage cause the bass is half this song

  • Last minute and a half is as good as you will hear anywhere anytime

  • The cinematography here is really something special.

This could easily be a music video.

  • @pakeluwasa Yeah, it's just beautiful.

  • my lcd's favorite!!!

  • 10 Stars. As good as it gets.

  • what is that bass? It's got a tremelo!

  • @pureloveracing that's not a tremelo, it's a Jack plug that goes in the front.

  • one of the best songs of the decade

  • Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!

    Song! Performance! TV production!

  • @mikeyAR1 Agreed, kudos to the director ;)

  • I really like the cinematography here, the cameramen did a fantastic job. You're not just focused of James, but there's some incredible shots of Pat and Nancy that make you appreciate how intricately this song was composed.

  • Powerful progression and the lyrics of moving on and scattering from friendships promised to be kindled forever, This is so beautiful.

  • Can't wait to see 'em at Hard Rock. Seriously expecting one of the best shows of my life.

  • I'm really digging the percussion...and his voice, really great!

  • buco feeling!

  • that guitar lick is verrrrrrrrry new order. nicely done. i'm kicking myself for not seeing these guys live every chance i've had.

  • this is mure magic. Hello teenage memories.

  • So freaking nice.

  • I like how these guys jam, I equally enjoyed watching them play as much as listening to them

  • cannot wait to see them again

  • Unassuming and brilliant.

  • What a performance

  • This was already my favourite LCD song, but if i ever needed reminding why, then this live version provided absolute proof of that. I Actually cant wait to see them at Leeds Festival now! :)

  • One of the best songs ever, bar none.

  • Nothing can touch this.

  • by the time this song ends I have goose bumps, chills, a smile on my face and tears in my eyes...

  • There are two things I think when this song ends - 1 : "That was awesome". 2 : "Whoa, someone must have sore fingers"

  • @SJ363 true man i thought they would've triggered a piano sample but instead they've got some poor bastard to bust that out the whole time. amazing performance though

  • @tobsk28 That's really funny because I thought that before - does someone actually play the two (?) chords for 7 minutes? Just saw them a few weeks ago in NYC and Nancy (amazing) Whang did. The live perfs are all about perfection and hugeness. If you get a chance, go. One of the best live shows you'll ever see.

  • la mejor version de esta canción q he escuchado

  • @waltdiamond la version original de la cancion es de LCD Soundsystem, el resto son las versiones

  • @chirybuky , pero esta es la mejor version. y punto!

  • Such an amazing performance.

  • one of the best music makers !!!! love ya james haha

  • there are very few songs that can convey every single emotion...

  • unbelievable

  • awesome performance...awesome

  • shit they are so fucking good

  • is there are something special about his mic?

  • is there are something special about his mic?

  • so freakin awesome

  • YEE-HAW!!!

  • I love nancy whang!!!!!!

  • The best thing I ever saw on Later. Total live transmission.

  • WHY HAVE 2 PEOPLE VOTED THIS DOWN?!?!?! do they have NO musical sense or taste?

  • amazing

  • Even better than the Manchester performance. Man, I love this band.

  • I've listened to this song at least 50 times. And it just gave me chills again. Brilliant, absolutely briliiant

  • @penguin320 That's nothing. I've been listening to this song every single fuckin' day since february. You know what? I just can get enough of this!

  • Ive ended my 2 of my DJ sets with song and it kills it every time.

  • @patsolo SAME. Excellent song to play, Movement by LCD Soundsystem is GREAT too...that ones always a smasher.

  • The tent at Coachella...if you were there, you KNOW.

  • I've listened to this song 10 times in a row and I still get goosebumps every time I hear it!

  • Simply Brilliant! I'm picking up my guitar right now.

  • Holy fuck.

    Best band.

  • Cool.

  • ummmmmm..... wow

  • Love this song, so uplifting ,sounds so much like early new order, tracks like Love Vigilantes, Leave me Alone, Age of Consent, Wierdo.

  • this performance is insane. holy shit.

  • The lyrics to this song can brighten absolutely any shit mood. This song gets so intense towards the end it's honestly one of the best songs written certainly since the turn of the century.

  • Agreed! This song is brilliant.

  • @mag666gam i find this song very depressing. nostalgic, but depressing.

  • i miss him!!!

    get back out there dude

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    so amazinggggggggg

  • Scary good.

  • i got ian c vibes too good job

  • lol

  • Amazing it's just not enough

  • Fuck me. That's good.

  • This my friends, this is how it's done live. Played with bollocks and soul. Superb.

It's nice to see the bloke from Heroes getting part-time work as a guitarist as well :

  • absolutely brilliant

  • whew, fucking stunning.

  • most perfect lyrics ive heard in a long time

  • Fucking great song, great performance.

  • Freaking amazing,

  • holy shit....this gave me the shivers like you get at really great gigs.....and its only on you tube(!).....just amazing

  • Is this the same band that did Get Innocuous, Time to Get Away, Daft Punk Is Playing at My House? Murphey is such a genius...

And don't answer that question, I know.

  • I imagine Ian CURTIS singing this hit...

    It would have been great...

  • It would.

  • You got to love the drummer and that burnt gituar - the lyrics are pretty ace too!

  • oh yes

    oh fucking hell

    oh so fucking good

  • Best LCD Soundsystem song. No question.

  • I think I like NYILY a bit better, but this definitely is one of their best songs.

  • someone great is pretty perfect too

  • ACE live and so great to lose yrself in.Best band I've seen since the Lips

  • The way it builds up to the end is so good

  • brilliant brilliant brillaint

  • a video of sheer beauty, every second further into it builds into a huge wall of sound and melody. a faultless track. i usually find the shortened (radio edit) versions often pail into comparison against their full blooded brothers, but this is one exception im willing to admit breaks the rule.

  • "except the part where the moral kicks in"

    fucking good line

    beer4theband

  • This sends shivers down my body.

    Mesmerizing.

  • i saw these guys open for the arcade fire and i thought they were great. i hope to see them again

  • that must have been a perfect concert

  • much better than the original franz ferdinand song

  • this is the original franz ferdinand covered it

  • so cleaver how the pianist phrases. makes u think its one continueous chord. excellent

  • It sucks that US isnt more into them. we get no shows out here.

  • I love this track! The way it builds up to such a climax is amazing. It comes across so well live. Genius!

  • That's Pat Mahoney on drums.

  • Absolutely awesome

  • Pitchfork's #1 song of 2007, and for good reason.

  • The good thing about the way James and his band play this song live is the tangible energy and intensity building throughout the song. The album recording is fantastic, but there definitely isn't that sense of building energy.

  • I completely agree! I only sort of liked them until I saw their live performances and then went to one of their shows and now I'm a definite fan. Their songs are so much more intense live.

  • this song is amazing live

just bought the album and i still cant decide whether i prefer this shorter version

    album is legendary though

  • Thanks for posting this! Truly a great song - I just saw them live at Randalls Island, NY this weekend and this was perhaps the highlight of the show (even as great as Arcade Fire was!) The energy during this song was insane in the crowd...

  • playing in Dublins Tripod OCT ...can't wait

  • SO awesome. So much time spent trudging on pop music gravel and all of a sudden, you find a diamond. It's unmistakable, chilling! This is the real deal!

I love how they look so disparate, like a randomly assembled lab group that just happens to complement each other perfectly, with astounding results.

  • Was that "naked trucker" on drums? Yeah. I think it was. Hmmm. Weird.

  • One of my fav songs at the moment. Hope they play VFest this year!

  • didn't particularly like what little i'd heard until this came on Later. this changed everything. stunningly brilliant!! and i think i'm in love with Nancy Whang AND her MOOG!

  • LCD are beautiful.Way way ahead and full of soul.
