I would always start a war when this music started playing because it would make me feel like my armies were invinceable.Until one of those damn spearman would kill one of my modern armor tanks!
Every time I hear the first few seconds of this song I immediately hear the song "Demolition" from Command & Conquer. If you don't know the song, search for "command and conquer demolition", it's the first response.
@shimazu32 I always figured it sounded a little bit like the end of Stairway to Heaven, but I'm a complete Zephead so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
this song matches that helicopter picture in the beginning so well. I imagine this song playing in a movie while a group of helicopters are flying over the sunset to a destination where they are to deploy troops somewhere in a South American jungle.
Haha... Good times... Random war, Nuclear Fallout, the works. when you reach this era, it certainly feels like you've really reached the modern era. XD

@drfrozenfire No offense. For me, this is the ultimate complement. It shows that my music has had an impact on you, and for me it means I succeeded in my task as a composer. I have the best job in the world, but as a staff composer, I often have to do the bidding of others, which can make my job difficult sometimes. @cromerzone civ IV by comparison is such crap musicwise that i actually had to look this up to give myself a reminder that i wasn't wrong............... especially the early themes
@DeliciousPoop I kind of resent the whole "civ IV music is crap" comment considering its soundtrack is composed, from the Classical period onward, from songs composed by some of the great master composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, etc. Not trying to say Civ III has a bad soundtrack, because it doesn't, and I love it, but get some taste man.
@Nagoragama you can resent all you want, i'm right..... civ IV was an insult to the civ III soundtrack.......... funny you should see this comment today because an hour ago i just tried to install civ IV back on my computer and it no longer runs..... i guess the game is behind the current technology

well its the taste of western classical music, if you hate it, you'll hate the civ4 soundtrack
personally i love the sound track of both, but i perfer civ 3 slightly over civ4, only cuz its more oriental, something becoming less common now a days

One of my few problems with Civilization 3, though, was its sheer difficulty. It was either very, very easy or extremely hard, not much of anything in between.
@andreshawk13 I'm not going to come at you in combat wearing animal skins with a stone-crafted axe if you're adorned with Kevlar and armed with a M16!!! Now that's just stupid!
@andreshawk13 Right, it's all about the tech bases. What would the natives had that could POSSIBLY damage a helicopter? You would have to give them rocket launchers and missile platforms! In RL, a few hundred Spanish wiped out thousands of Central American natives with their tech.
Sid Meier did fix the combat system in the sequel. In order for the fights to be realistic, you have to pair two combat units that have comparable strength values. I
@Agent1W No, a few hundred spaniards, and a few 10k of their native rebel allies wiped out thousands of central americans. Not to mention the diseases brought by them decimated the native american nations they were fighting.
I remember going through my HDD after playing game once [actually i think i stopped game saying to myself: Oh I gotta have that on CD] and getting to this music and taking it out of CIV directory and into music folder and burning it to CD. It has always reminded my ALOT of Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin jazz.
@kingocarina "Stars" (or "Stars Full", I don't really know which one is more accurate) is the other awesome (imho) civ 3 modern era music... the very relaxing one (the one resembling much of an adult movie soundtrack :) )
@drfrozenfire to tab a guitar song, you just make 6 lines (representing the six strings) and write the fret number on the string that the fret is played. i know im bad at explaining it, so you could also look it up online.
I used to play entire games of Civ III lasting hours and stretching over weeks just to get to the awesome Modern Era music. Now that it's on YouTube, that seems a little futile.
this was really good game played it alot ..beat everything on hardest and largest map...it can take a while to populate whole map best with maxed cities to get higest score..
but this music is like orgasm..so good jam... brings good memories ..
I am in the middle of another play-through of Civ3 and just progressed to the modern times. I always put my science funding up to 90% and forget about the gold (I'm at like -390 a turn) and end up being in modern times while everybody else is still feudal or industrial.
in fact i think I'm gonna go beat the crap out of Montezuma's bitchass swordsmen right now
i think civ 4 was to appeal to the masses not the fans and to me this game is more fast paced when it needs to be overall if you just want to play a game and relax play civ 4 if your a hard core gamer play civ 3
Damn, I rated you thumbs down by accident. Soz bout that. But I do believe what you said. 'bout 3 years ago I bought Civ 3 as a natural transition from Civ 2 and naturally got my ass handed to me constantly. I am slightly getting better now though [on warlord difficulty; not sure my sanity would survive greater difficulty levels ^^]. But I hear ya buddy, civ 3 is hardcore...even on warlord! :D
The song's just called Smash, not Smash Full, the "Full" in the file name is to denote that the mp3 has the full song, thus why all of them end in full.
This game was so hard, I always played on Chieftain mode and still got my ass handed to me, the other civs always advanced to Medieval times leaving me in Anicent Times, and every time I declared war on someone they sent one unit into my territory that no matter what I sent at it it wouldn't die, and the unit would just keep leveling up. I don't know maybe I wasn't smart enough for this game.
I hate civ4's modern era music, it's just so boring and repetitive. I always couldn't wait to get to the modern era in civ3 because the music was so awesome. Wish they had done some jazz/rock tunes for Civ4 as well.
I would always start a war when this music started playing because it would make me feel like my armies were invinceable.Until one of those damn spearman would kill one of my modern armor tanks!

in fact i think I'm gonna go beat the crap out of Montezuma's bitchass swordsmen right now

holy shit do u play in chieftian???
chincherrinas 2 years ago
usually yeah. i occasionally do regent or monarch if I'm looking for a challenge, but it's so fun dominating on chieftan.
emperor and deity are just ridiculous so I don't even try.

i think civ 4 was to appeal to the masses not the fans and to me this game is more fast paced when it needs to be overall if you just want to play a game and relax play civ 4 if your a hard core gamer play civ 3
rlbd708 2 years ago
civ3 was way to easy, once you got past the threshold, it got boring leading 250 tanks into a city guarded by 2 infantry and some catapults
AquaDonkey 2 years ago 2
On the other hand, you couldn't use nuclear weapons without getting bumrushed, something the AI never had to worry about...
shockraid1 2 years ago
Damn, I rated you thumbs down by accident. Soz bout that. But I do believe what you said. 'bout 3 years ago I bought Civ 3 as a natural transition from Civ 2 and naturally got my ass handed to me constantly. I am slightly getting better now though [on warlord difficulty; not sure my sanity would survive greater difficulty levels ^^]. But I hear ya buddy, civ 3 is hardcore...even on warlord! :D
bad4ever2001 2 years ago
I know what you mean. I'd rather not find out how insanely hard some of the higher difficulty levels must be...

Civ 3 had some amazing music! this and that other sick modern era fusion jam.
Civ4 music....meh.....

What I don't like about Civ 4 is that it's not as "big" as Civ 3.
In Civ 3 I often built an army of +100 Modern armors.
In Civ4, no more than +60
You could also build more cities in CIv 3, and the maps were bigger.
Stefnir94 2 years ago 3
You are absolutely right
aeromanumd 2 years ago
Thats why I don't have Civ4...To big of Modernized gaming now. CIV3, is the only game you truely could totally rule the world.

The "rock" song of Civ 3!
Agent1W 2 years ago 3
The song's just called Smash, not Smash Full, the "Full" in the file name is to denote that the mp3 has the full song, thus why all of them end in full.
moneypolo12321 2 years ago
Yeah man u right, the title has changed now...

I can manage with the second difficulty and my brother can almost take on the hardest
pokemonster13 2 years ago
Well, I was like 12 the last time I played Civ3 so I guess it makes sense that I was a very unstrategic 12-year-old.

i tried 2 and 1 but i didn't really like them

Racecars721 2 years ago
Civ 1 and Civ 2 were created in the early 90s (Civ 1 only 1991!) and believe it or not these were the cutting edge graphics back then.
Back then we didn't even know we could hope for the graphics you get now.

I can't think of any better Civ 3 music. Honestly.

I hate civ4's modern era music, it's just so boring and repetitive. I always couldn't wait to get to the modern era in civ3 because the music was so awesome. Wish they had done some jazz/rock tunes for Civ4 as well.
