  • Huh! He is slowly, irreparably turning into Tom Waits...

    Fck old age!

  • wow this sound slike Leonard in the way back machine. Like in the 70's. amazing.

  • Amazing!! This is perfect Leonard! I find myself laughing while another tear rolls down my cheek.

  • אוהבת אהבתי אוהב

    לאונרד הכי טוב שיש

    נפגש למעלה

  • Fantastic man. Fantastic voice. Fantastic poem.

    Fantastic CANADIAN!

I am so proud of him.

I am going to buy his CD, and so should every Canadian!

  • @evencool1

why just every Canadian, I think Leonard Cohen should be given out free to the " So Called " " Leaders of the World " with a hope , that maybe someday they would be learning just " Something " ..about " LIFE, LOVE and POETRY "...hoping it´s not all too late.

ps: I´m from Denmark..going to buy it anyway :))

  • This song sounds like when he was young he got sticks shuved up his ass.

  • he answers the holes in my soul, and brings home some reason and peace to my mind, i spent most of my youth almost all my life drunk high or and in pain, i though maybe when i got sober leonard would make sense but he does more than ever before, thank you mr cohen.

  • beautiful :)

  • All these years to get here. It's been decades since Leonard stood alone with his guitar and sang unaccompanied on a recording. "Old Ways" is an astounding enterprise that has all the best elements of Leonard Cohen's music distilled down to deceptively simple forms. Like late period De Kooning paintings...bold lines and forms, punctuated by the unvarnished candor of years of living through the darkness and still finding light, humor, and beauty.

  • Gettin' on a bit, but LC is still THE MAN!

  • "Had to do time in the Tower, begging like crazy to quit" Do you think this is a reference to Tower of Song?

  • @MrSoreto --In my opinion no. Perhaps because I can relate so well to this entire song (well except for the braids and blouse line) I think it means, he had to have a period of solitude and isolation. The Tower of London was a place where people were exiled or sent to await death, bleak, desolate, lonely and without hope. Unless Tower of Song is referring the the same tower, which I doubt--I think it's likely one of his common biblical references. Either way, it's all genius. Peace!

  • @MrSoreto i think so. :)

  • @MrSoreto I think it might refer to when he has been ill from his manic depression periods and trying to get well. the tower could well be a hospital or his safeplace at the monastry..The whole song is about that, I would think. The sentence is : Had to do time in the tower begging MY crazy to quit

  • I lack words to describe this album it's awesome..

  • You know, this is really what the world needs. Something pure and honest amongst all the shit we see and hear everyday and not just in a musical sense, but something very real, something we can all relate to.

  • Please, people. Praise is not enough. Buy his record.

  • @burpo I couldn't agree more..

  • I think Leonard is the guitarist as well. I don't think he's played guitar on a studio album since "New Skin for the Old Ceremony".

  • @amamula1 Yes - the liner notes says it is he.

  • my fave from the album! “Soy viejo y los espejos no engañan”

  • takes me back to a disheartening time when i was lost.

  • Thank you for sharing! This is poetry pure, simply marvellous.

  • @gretagysin you are welcome my dear!

  • I had to go crazy to love you Had to go down to the pit Had to do time in the tower begging my crazy to quit I had to go crazy to love you You who were never the one Whom I chased through the Souvenir heartache Her braids and her blouse all undone Sometimes I'd head for the highway I'm old and the mirrors don't lie But crazy has places to hide you that are deeper than any goodbye
  • I had to go crazy to love you Had to let everything fall Had to be people I hated Had to be no one at all I’m tired of choosing desire I've been saved by a blessed fatigue The gates of commitment unwired And nobody trying to leave Sometimes I'd head for the highway I'm old and the mirrors don't lie But crazy has places to hide in That are deeper than any goodbye
  • @marjanmarianne congratulations, is english your first language?
