The simplicity of the human mind, only to be tapped into by the musical masterpieces created by the farthest away from simple. Through my explorations of thoughts and thinking, I have stumbled upon a most intriguing thought. As I think of my grandfather, I realize one thing, life ends with death, we do not cease but return to God and shower the knowledge upon other that we have gained.
I agree, but at this point, Pollini was perhaps too economical; no dynamics; no crescendos; no variety in texture. Astonishing fingers, but it's a bit too monochromatic and nervous. Have you seen the studio recording he made in the empty hall of the Musikverein with Bohm in the late 70s? He shows much more confidence in technique and music with masculine bravura. It's pianism galore. Astonishing.
I think in fact this economy of dynamics and modulations is due to a conscience of the piece as a whole. That is something that characteried Benedetti Michelangeli, too. And,in fact, it is much more difficult to play it like this. It is a question of deep understanding of the piece.
Borat go back to kaz and listen to bing bang song.. This is a great version, not a insult to Beethoven. Ive heard at least 15 versions on this piece and i can say that maybe 80 proc of them is played to slow or to fast on the piano. Maybe at times played a tiny bit to fast by Pollini i have to say he has a great feel for this piece that compensate big. If you want absolute perfection tho, watch the film Picnic at Hanging Rock. I dont know who playes there, maybe someone can tell me.

It seems Pollini is leading the music not Abaddo....unlike Karajan and Weissenberg's emperor...Karajan dominated everything..

One can see the same economy of gestures in arms and hands than in Michelangeli. No wonder he was his master. Even the sound is similar.

@fdaltrey No, I haven't. Nor have I ever heard him alive. But someone who did told me he has so rich a sound that you just become captivated.

This is a PERFECT rendition of the concerto. It is flawless, yet so full of -not just technique, no- EMOTION.
Many thanks, 'mainlymuzik', for offering us this- et merci, mon ami, de m'avoir fait découvrir l'immense beauté de l'art de Pollini.

One of my favorite pieces!!! But this version is a little to fast.

Czerny, the one who premiered this concerto with beethoven present, said that beethoven told him "don't play the 2nd movement too slow!!"
