This video must have been amongst the first two dozen songs featured on Much Music in Toronto. Loved the intro. That mew-w-wling guitar chord. Loved HER! Loved her voice! Her Louise Brooks bob. So Cool. And when I first heard that lyric, 'When I See You From A Distance, She's Pulling Out Her Chair. In My Imagination, She's Pulling Out Her Hair', well, I just HOWLED! Great Song! And I agree 'Canadianhammerfist' the dancer does look like Christian Bale. A Healthy Christian Bale. Thanks for posting!
Saw the Sharks many times. The Elmo, Larry's Hideaway, The Edge,Upper Lip
some place on Merton where off duty cops did not care for the scent of good black hash.
Anyway, her voice really did have that resinous echo. It would shake your bowels and
tug at your heart. The guitarist was really good and they did these songs but not overproduced or treacly. Too punk for the horde and too nice for the gawd-awful purists. She should have stuck it out with her band. The crowd would have come around.
ok so its me again...I seem to be getting excited. I am amazed there is no footage of The Sharks out there.
They were musically tight and as a guy, I was just goofy for Ms. Keane. It was impossible not to be. Then I saw
this video on Much Music early eighties. Yuk. That Voice with That Band did not require dancin boys and synth. I think some record knob must have gotten to her with bad advice. They shoulda been huge.
Still I am very glad for what is here. Thanks for posting.
does she she still tour? I live in Michigan...oops, I mean alternate Canada...LOL We hear a great deal of your bands that didn't make it "stateside" ...I would definitely catch her show.
I first heard this song in a clothing store in Kensington in Calgary, AB and just had to buy this album! Love it still, After the 80's, Sherry became a country western singer...bet a lot of you didn't know that!
Sat in a bar last night trying to remember this song so it was great to see it posted here. Thanks so much and I remember seeing her live several times in Toronto and always had a great time.
I remember seeing her do this song with her band "The Sharks" which was more punky than new wave like in this video. It was really awesome. It's a big shame that The Sharks never recorded anything.
@mooseware I was in a band that backed up the Sharks quite a few times in the late 70's early 80's. We both had left handed drummers that made set-up a breeze. They were a fantastic group with many great songs that unfortunately never were released.
This was released by Capitol. Since it was her only hit and their only successful release from her they probably have no interest in putting it out in digital format online.
I saw this band in a bar in Calgary in '83 and I was about the only one who knew and appreciated who they were and what we were hearing, since there was barely any applause other than myself in that somewhat uncouth and boorish establishment. Nonetheless, she is well-remembered and thier sound too, where it counts.
Hi there - I like this and here's an idea that may make sense. I've just finished an EP?album called English Country Girl with 18 year old Charlotte Howard. Three of the tracks also will have the original backing tracks. So taking the Title track English Country Girl and changing the lyric to Canadian Country girl you can make the song your own. I'm seaching YouTube for as many femail country singers round the world that I can find so we might make it a 'Global Hit'!!
A great song and video from the lost, lamented 80's.
Sherry had a unique voice and understated sexy style, that is far more appealing than the over-exposed and under-talented "diva's" of the current day.
OMG... I still have my 12 inch vinyl version of this song. When that came out there was a movement in music they called Neo-Romantic. This bring back so much great memories :)
i have tried to find this on winmx too, i wish someone would post this, i would, if i had it. gotta come here to get my fix. pure canadian... can't find it anywhere!!!
does anyone have the lyrics for this song? I can'y seem to find any and I am finding some complications in figuring exactly what she is saying lol... Please and thank you, I love this song!! :)
.......... do you really find her thrilling? More than someone new? (?) Have you got your freedom? Or just another view? Hey come on, baby come off me! We've both been there before Second class emotion- not what you're looking for! I want, I want,I want, and I want, and I want, and I want you back! I want you back I want you back and I want you back I want you back I want you back
.............. when i see you from the distance, you're pulling out her chair in my imagination, she's pulling out your hair Hey come on, baby come off me! We've both been there before Second class emotion- not what you're looking for! I want, I want,I want, and I want, and I want, and I want you back! I want you back I want you back oh hoo baby please I want you back come back to me I want you back oh baby please I want you back...
Hey there... I am glad to see that soooo many people love Sherry. She is a very close friend of mine. You have most of the lyrics correct but there are a few mistakes :)
"By the time you said you loved me, I had turned my back...
"I spent a long time waiting, What kind of love is that...
"Do you really find it thrilling holding someone new? have you got your freedom or just another view?"
"hey come on babe come off it...we both been there before"
I still have Sherry's album People Talk. I so want this on a CD and I have not given up hope that one day it will be remastered or I can have the MP3 version...the album is a classic.
"That time you said you loved me, I had turned my back. I spent a long time waiting, what kind of love is that? So i go find a new one, I hear those things you do..."
What an amazing song! Simple yet vibrant. Brings back many, many great memories from the 80's. It really was a very fun time, great music, dancing and not having to worry about AIDS which changed a lot about the freedoms of sex that we enjoyed.
When I was living in Canada in the 80's I remember this song/video on Toronto Rocks. I also love the song Diamonds & Pearls. Sherry has very unique and dominate voice. Great vid.
Woo Hoo Sherry!!! Hope ya see this. It's me Lynn. I've been searching for your video myself lol. How ya doin hun. I'm not on James St anymore. I'm sewing out of my home. Sending you a big hug and hope you're doing well! Google my user name and find my art site. We can get in touch.

Thank you so much for posting. I have all Sherry Keans albums from the 80s and I play them over and over. I like her voice and style. Post as many of her videos you can...

Thank you for uploading it. I'm NOT crazy, here's the proof.
