It`s a great documentary. The Army uses the excuse that the soldiers are protecting our freedom, it`s a lie spun by the USA gov.The USA attacks the freedom of other countries, they set up terrorist organisations such as Al Qeeda to attack and bring destruction. They dropped Nuclear bombs on Japan, they used Chemical weapons on the Vietnamese and Iraqis and they still feed us the lie that they are protecting our freedoms! Thank God the soldiers are waking UP! The USA brings terror worldwide.
This is why I refused to join the military 25 years ago. There was no war at the time, I just didn't want to serve a war machine that might. My father called me a coward. He wanted me to join mainly for the free college money (so he didn't have to pay for it). In the end, it took me eight years to finish college.
Looking at the first gulf war (1990-91), Kosovo, and now Iraqi, I happy I never served!!!
Man this is so far one of the best documentary I have seen in my entire life, where subject is human conscience not his religion. Thank you for sharing
One hears many "good soldiers" speak vaguely of fighting for freedom or values or democracy. Many who are defending us from evil. Many who kill "for their country". But few who know or will admit knowing the specific socioeconomic purpose of the war they wage. Few who will admit the hypocrisies in their standard issue justifications. Few who will publicly speak of evil in themselves.
BRILLIANT!!! I SALUTE THE SOLIDERS THAT OVER COME THERE IGNORANCE AND MISGUIDED PATRIOTISM AND FOLLOW THERE HEARTS !!CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS ARE THE REAL HEROES!! GREAT DOC WELL DONE AND THANK YOU!!
What courage is it to let someone tell you what to do without questioning the morality of it? Soldiers who don't agree with the war they are in but don't object ARE THE REAL COWARDS.
If you can"t pull the trigger get the F%^& out of my AO! Drive a truck, service a computer, do medicine, whatever!!!! I can't help but think that people who were questioning their ability to "wage war" allowed some of the enemy to live and to kill members of my family (ww1, 2 Korea Vietnam)
In Iraq/Afg. I have seen these people and I did everything in my power to get them out of there, they get people killed, thats it, no more, they get people killed.
When Casteel talks about that pivotal moment when he was challenged during the interrogation in Abu Ghraib with this self proclaimed jihadist , I really was incredibly moved by his courage admitting that he had no answer at all and also wondering if there could be an end to this never-ending cycle of revenge in these current wars....
We all know what we signed up for, you don't swear allegiance to get a trade or travelthe world, your primary job is to kill the enemy. You all had that choice we are not members of nations that conscript's people only because there are enough of us to do the job!
@disturbedtalis we all know armies all over the world are particularly skilled to sell their message , the ugliness of war only after first combat sets in ....
Brave men, it takes more courage to stand for what your conscience tells you against all the accusations of cowardice, than it does to ignore that conscience and follow the mob.
You have every right to your opinion, but do you truly believe these men are cowards? Can you truly conceive of no situation in which you would refuse to follow orders? Take the example of German conscientious objectors in WW2. Were they cowards? How about those who risk death through their refusal?

@djm7136 You may not respect conscientious objectors, but remember this:
If this were a country without the freedom to be a conscientious objector, it would not be a country worth fighting for.
