I think he is completely full of shit with this vocal injury hampering his abilities until 2003 or 2004! I don't doubt that it happened to him. But this is a bullshit excuse he is using for retiring from the progressive vocal elite. I wish he would have done this more gracefully. It doesn't take a genius to not only listen to the new stuff but also any You Tube vid in 2000, ex. SFAM or Silent Man (live) to completely debunk this "pre-2003 i really sucked" argument. Try listening to metropolis live at The Marque and then say that again. Before his vocal injury he was a god. Hes getting it back but still is struggling. Go through what he went through, basically learning to sing again, all the frustration he must have. It's obvious you know little to none about what he has gone through.

Yeah he did sound amazing on that album, but remember that there are many things that can be done in the studio to make someone's voice sound a lot better than it actually sounds.

I belive that hes voice is pretty natural on all albums(FiI,SFAM,SDOIT,ToT) under this hard time for him. In the studio he takes brakes and can warm up his voice. I saw some studio-footage in some vid when they recorded vocaltracks for Scenes. He was amazing there, live in the studio. I heard that his voice cracked ones, but they just re-recorded, and hi did fine.
