Talented group of young ladies? You bet. But it's a tad "old fashioned." I guess there's a lot to be said for that, eh? I mean, I haven't seen these young women perform in years, since the 80's, and they are unchanged. Tradition? Or just plain stagnant? And for the "no African American women on the Officer line..." I don't know if that's due to racism or one just hasn't come along to be appointed to the line YET.
very few afro american girls try out BUT those that do try out USUALLY make it...but keep in mind you have to try out to be DAMN good but i STILL til this day have NEVER seen a black girl as an OFFICER...but they are good...watching them since the early 80's on tv at the cotton bowl parade!
@5191keith i not about to play with you, i was just wondering, i like the rangereettes, they are good i will give them that, i was ust wondering why there arent very many african american girls on the line, i was just hearing rumors that in the 70s and 80s it was really hard for african american girls to make the line due to their color, buts thats not true at all, anyway love the rangereettes nothing personal, just asking
@jargoer - I was wondering the same thing. Or any Latina members for that matter. My guess is since they're in East Texas they're still stuck in Jim Crow days.
i'm a proud current member of the rchs golden debs and i would like to tryout for rangerettes :) but...i'm still in high school right now soooo hit me up.
Well basically, you're referring to all drill teams in the country. Most choreography is recycled in some way. The Rangerettes always begin their halftime with the traditional high kick. After the band and twirlers have performed, they come back and do another type of routine such as a field jazz which is rich with dance technique and effortless formation changes. They also perform with props such as tall ladders, streamers, hoops, and stools. What else would you like them to do, fan?
I kind of agree, though. Yes, they are good dancers and the precision is good, too...but it's basically the same routine I saw twelve years ago rehashed. I'm pretty sure they even played the same song. I realize the high kick is their trade mark, but can't they do something else once in a while, just to make it a little bit more interesting? And no, I'm not talking about shakin' their groove thang, either.
Boring, did you see that footwork? You can't know anything about dance. I realize that you are entitled to your opinion, but these girls work hard to syncronize all of their moves. That in itself is entertainment. Did you want them to "shake their groove thang?"

I wouldn't say that the lack of racial diversity is an intentional thing, people. We're not all hopeless racists down here, you know. -__________-
