i would recomend headman shortys, for a 400 sm. my truck came with a 400 sm but it got swaped because the old 400 sm's had major heating issues, hopefully u got that all figured out.

well thank you for your input, but if I did follow your expert adivce and cut it alittle pass the headers, then the mufflers couldnt make the turn between my bell housing and crossmember, not to mention they would hit the transfer case yoke and I would no longer pass my state inspection and I would have to smell the exhuast all the time. So I guess the way I designed it is set up pretty baddass as it is... Thanks for the tip on how to make my truck sound more baddass tho!

put mufflers on it, straight pipes will cost you a noticeable amount of low end torque, happened to me twice, i had a parisienne with a 305, i put straight pipes on it, and it wouldn't light the tires up anymore...same thing happened when i did the same thing to my 97 Grand Marquis.BUT, with the parisienne, when deleted the cat, and put a hotter coil and thicker wires, then it would light the tires for about 10-15ft from a dead stop with 2.73 rear but i would play it safe and stick with mufflers

It all really depends on the sound you are looking for... straight exhaust is faboulous if done correctly and if its legal. Key is do not to use small dia pipe and minimize the bends. Go atleast 2.5" dia. Flowmasters will mellow out your exhaust and give a deeper hollow sound. And dont be fooled by wives tales, mufflers are a restriction. and as far as gaining/losing power... any restriction in the exhaust robs power.
