silly to even think of comparing legends. music is to enjoy and appreciate. jagjit ji is no more but his loving voice will reverberate around the globe forever. jagjit ji brought ghazal closer to the youth, made it simple and hummable by common people. he experimented with music both with classical and western instruments that popularised ghazal even more. whats more his golden voice is a treat to hear...

I am a fan of Ghulam Ali Saheb, Mehdi Hasan Saheb and Jagjit Singh ji. In my opinion, while Jagjit Singh resembles the original poet in a Mushaira in Tarannum (emphasis on poetry); Mehdi Hasan is nearer to a classical singer who sings his compositions taking the help of poetry (more emphasis on Raagdari) and Ghulam Ali lays emphasis on both - poetry as well as music. All the three are great and all have their own fan-following, who are we to belittle any of them.

the best thing about Ghulam Ali's style of singing is his distinct nasal twang,which helps him a lot with his floatations,which we know as-"moorkis". just mark when he utters-"chehra tera". The "tera" part is exquisite because of that

both Jagjit and Ghulam have their own versions of this ghazal and there cant be any comparison. Both the versions are absolutely fantastic.

I have listened both the singers and noted that Ghulam Ali has more variety in delivery of certain words, accordin to sitaution. Also he renders more variations in uttering raags and key words of the ghazal with differing tone and pitch, to which Jagjit lacks a lot.

Yet Jagit has his own stature which cant be denied.

@afzaalpk you pretty much summed it up....Jagjit lovers..my spouse included...hate this fact and wish he had them. I rate Mehdi Hassan to be the ultimate. If we are speaking of Shudh Tarika, he is the epitome. Jagjit is great in his own right but his is a blend of Geet and Ghazal....that said I would be queuing for Jagjit's Concert ticket any day and would do the same for Ghulam Ali and Khan Shahib!!
