@vansdrumming Your'e drumming is relatively solid but you suck bull's nuts as an instructor/teacher. Your videos are more of a insecure ego stroke than instructional tool. Get a grip Bro and find your true calling
@vansdrumming Is there a right or wrong way to holding your stick with your left hand? I noticed that you (and a lot of other drummers) use the "traditional hold" with their left hand and "matched-grip" with their right. Is it just personal preference?
@djgca1 ive seen people especially jazz drummers holding the sticks almost like a pencil, for a lighter texture. so randy is deffinitely right its whats comvfortable
hey randy, love the vid... i'm starting to get into editing video, so that i can put up some vids myself and i was wondering what editing software u use and how u get the beat on the video
Vince, can you explain the differences stick size makes? i seem to blast better with fatter longer sticks. is that just me or normal? what do you recommend for faster playing?
lmao great question i believe vince van patten is a sports annoucer or something. or a name i made up in place of yours. but yes RANDY! same question.
Excellent Lesson..you slwed down a little bit and didn't have as much "nervous" chatter. Keep up the good work..the slower and more relaxed you are the more confident and commanding you are of your audience...you definitely have the skills and a good ability to teach..you just need to "project" that to the audience and by taking your time...you do just that. Take Care
You are my drum instructor. I have been self taught up until I found your vids on youtube, and now Ilook forward to trying out whatever you have to show.....except the drop on the drop clutch. I already knew that. To the kit I go to feel whatever groove comes out of this beat. Thanks a lot RVP!!! PS I recommend your channel to my other drummer friends.
Hey man, loving the videos, seems so simple once you play it.. but getting the fill to fit is the hard part...any advice for how to get more creative??? Thanks|
You have to Funk us more times Randy :). Very cool lesson. You could do a hip-hop groove from Rick's other book Comtemporary Drumset techniques, they are awesome. ;) PEACE RANDY
i usually play rock and metal stuff. but your drum lessons helped me playing more creative. thanks a lot. and adding the tabs really is a big + . would be nice if you could always add them to the video.
Here's a suggestion...start off playing just the Bass Drum and Snare Drum Only...break it down one beat at a time if you have to. Also, make sure you aren't hitting your snare too heavily because that will throw you off too. When you get that down, play it with a metronome but set the metronome to the offbeats (ands). Then add the first offbeat on your hi hat, then the second, then the third and finally all four offbeats. Play it slow first then build from there. I hope this helps!
it would have helped but i already got the beat down. play some stuff thats pretty difficult then just think about this and it seems easy. its a good way to get it down
lol at the voiceover guy on your websites dvd video.
this is the 1st video ive seen of yours. talented individual

For the first beat on the sheet music, why is there a note on the snare line if it's just bass and hi-hat?
undertakerfreak1127 2 years ago 3
There isn't.

Yeah, my apologies - I thought the first simple bass/hi-hat lesson was tied into the sheet music.

Omg. I completely understand what you are trying to say - feel the groove.
I was just jamming this morning and realized drums are all about making pleasing noises and not just fucking it up everywhere.
Btw, I read the notation and can't make it out. When you started playing, I locked it in immediately.
