  • BELLISSIMO!!

  • Great tutorial :)

  • Hey man!!!!!! I heard u ha skype? I'd like to skype with u. Like drum lesson type deal. U up for it?

  • This video is cool. I did it exact to the pattern, and was able to change up and make my own groove. Thanks!

  • the start of this video sounds like my doorbell. freaky.

  • Well if i would drum i would watch every video of you . . . twice

  • Man you'r the best teacher. Fast, slow, clear and light! Where can i buy your vids?

  • @xalevedi Thank you very much. You can buy them at:

    vanzdrumming com

  • @vansdrumming theres not A correct way to hold A drumstick?

  • @vansdrumming Your'e drumming is relatively solid but you suck bull's nuts as an instructor/teacher. Your videos are more of a insecure ego stroke than instructional tool. Get a grip Bro and find your true calling

  • @xalevedi You have that right! My 5 year old son watch you on here 3-4 times a week. He really loves this.

  • i love your lessons but it aways seems as though you forgot to take your pills

  • @vansdrumming Is there a right or wrong way to holding your stick with your left hand? I noticed that you (and a lot of other drummers) use the "traditional hold" with their left hand and "matched-grip" with their right. Is it just personal preference?

  • @djgca1 There is no right or wrong. Whatever feels good to you. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • @djgca1 ive seen people especially jazz drummers holding the sticks almost like a pencil, for a lighter texture. so randy is deffinitely right its whats comvfortable

  • It is a good beat but you should try to get to your point quicker.

  • Am so jealous

  • For the first beat on the sheet music, why is there a note on the snare line if it's just bass and hi-hat?

  • There isn't.

  • Yeah, my apologies - I thought the first simple bass/hi-hat lesson was tied into the sheet music.

Your stuff is very helpful though - thanks a lot.

  • @vansdrumming Hey, Are all your cymbals Zildjian?

  • Easiest groove ever made. :P

  • Great lesson!

  • Hi, I really love your vids!

But i'm just asking myself witch drum kit u have... can you tell me please? :D

  • Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute

  • hey you're so cool and funny, I wanna have you as my drum teacher :D

  • Vince, can you explain the differences stick size makes? i seem to blast better with fatter longer sticks. is that just me or normal? what do you recommend for faster playing?

  • Who is Vince?

  • lmao great question i believe vince van patten is a sports annoucer or something. or a name i made up in place of yours. but yes RANDY! same question.

  • I'm struggling with hitting that 3rd snare, i can't get it in time

  • Just take it slow. Try counting out the part as you go. It helps. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • Well after i posted my comment, I went and practised and got it all down :D

  • last part was co cool

  • awesome video

  • Hey! Fellow drummer here.

What camera do you use to record your lessons?

  • Thank you! You're such a great drummer and teacher!

I'm glad I found these video's, I've learned there's so much more to playing the drums than I thought.

+ I love the way you take the piss out of boring standard rock beats :'-D

  • Randy is a great teacher. I've learned a lot with him with this youtube lessons.

  • Thanks Randy for your great teaching skills. You do an awesome job of breaking down beats, I like the little screen with the notes, nice touch.

  • Took me 2 hours to nail this one, but it was so worth it.

Now onto the other groove video :D

    Cheers Randy.

  • Are your Bass drum notes 1-111-1 -1-111-1-1-111-1...

I like your videos, you've been very influential.

  • Thanks for this, Randy. Your lessons are just the best what I can find around and really helpful. Keep it up :)

  • I dont have your video yet, but do you this same thing with the measure in the corner?

  • I'm glad you stress the importance of fills that fit the beat and are more musical. Great little groove, thanks for the lesson.

  • Best 8 minutes I've spent in a while.

    Thank you.

  • That was cool!

  • that was bad as shit, thank you so much, im gettin into funk right now, and where do you think i could get more simple to advanced beats like that?

  • get the book Contemporary Drumset Phrasing by frank katz

  • I LOVE YOU

  • Excellent Lesson..you slwed down a little bit and didn't have as much "nervous" chatter. Keep up the good work..the slower and more relaxed you are the more confident and commanding you are of your audience...you definitely have the skills and a good ability to teach..you just need to "project" that to the audience and by taking your time...you do just that. Take Care

  • The accents in the notation are off, but otherwise, awesome. I dig the addition of the notation though. Really helps with practicing.

Love the groove as well. Thanks Vanz

  • you rox me thx for the lesson

  • randy your a superhero!

    cool lesson

  • Hell yes! We love funk, so very thank you Vanz!!

  • Very good lesson

  • Hey man, are you just using the vanced Funk Studies book?

  • Wow your last fill is crazy.

    are you dutch?

  • yeah cool :)

  • Great, thanks man!

  • awesome :) I dig the in vid notation.... keep 'em comin'

  • Cool, nvr played funk b4. I'm Learning new stuff every video! thank you RVP

  • great lesson...and funny guy.

  • You are my drum instructor. I have been self taught up until I found your vids on youtube, and now Ilook forward to trying out whatever you have to show.....except the drop on the drop clutch. I already knew that. To the kit I go to feel whatever groove comes out of this beat. Thanks a lot RVP!!! PS I recommend your channel to my other drummer friends.

  • Wow...One of the Best Instructional videos I've seen by far! Also one of the best Instructors I've to hear of!

  • Omg. I completely understand what you are trying to say - feel the groove.

I was just jamming this morning and realized drums are all about making pleasing noises and not just fucking it up everywhere.

Btw, I read the notation and can't make it out. When you started playing, I locked it in immediately.

    Funk groove #2 PLEASE!!

  • You remind me of doug from king of queens, Dont know if you have seen it but its funny

  • more funk videos!

  • Hey man, loving the videos, seems so simple once you play it.. but getting the fill to fit is the hard part...any advice for how to get more creative??? Thanks|

  • please randy, out the camera behind the drum set, like you used to do, it's a better angle.

  • This is really cool :) I usually play metal and rock but now I like to learn these things. Thank you!

  • wanna see more funk groove stuff plox... the stuff is so fun to play ^^_

  • You still rock crazy man!! Please keep'em coming!

  • verrry nice lesson vanz! love to see more of that stuff :)

  • oh, that book is so freaking confusing, so crazy stuff going on. thanx

  • You have to Funk us more times Randy :). Very cool lesson. You could do a hip-hop groove from Rick's other book Comtemporary Drumset techniques, they are awesome. ;) PEACE RANDY

  • sounds so nice!

  • Haha, this is plain awesome. Do more funk lessons please :D!

  • i usually play rock and metal stuff. but your drum lessons helped me playing more creative. thanks a lot. and adding the tabs really is a big + . would be nice if you could always add them to the video.

    greetings from germany.

  • As usual GREAT lesson, and adding the tabs, thats a big +++

Thank you mate!!! You are the Spartacus of the drummers.

  • i really cant play this groove

my snare hand wants to play with the hi-hat haha. so my snare would be on the and of 2. im terrible at playing funk thats been written out

  • Here's a suggestion...start off playing just the Bass Drum and Snare Drum Only...break it down one beat at a time if you have to. Also, make sure you aren't hitting your snare too heavily because that will throw you off too. When you get that down, play it with a metronome but set the metronome to the offbeats (ands). Then add the first offbeat on your hi hat, then the second, then the third and finally all four offbeats. Play it slow first then build from there. I hope this helps!

  • it would have helped but i already got the beat down. play some stuff thats pretty difficult then just think about this and it seems easy. its a good way to get it down

  • Awesome lesson sir! Funkehhhhh

  • sweet!

  • please do more of these funk things. more complex would be awesome but even things this simple are helpful thanks so much.

  • I love your vids. Looking forward to the next installment of your funk lesson.

  • Nice one

  • Hell yeah.
