Also, look at Myron Rolle who is a Rhode scholar that didn't choose Harvard, Princeton, or Notre Dame. Myron went to Florida State, because they had a winning dynasty from 87 all the way until 2000, which was at least well within his lifetime. Notre Dame hasn't been any good since Jerome Bettis left or old Lou.
With respect to Myron Rolle, I never could figure out why he chose FSU other than he liked the climate, or simply wanted to be a very big academic fish in a scholastically challenged pond.
Also Willingham was a great coach for Stanford with lesser athletes, but couldn't get it done with Notre Dame. How many pros come from that progam compared to Florida and USC? Wow, how does NFL substance abuse have anything to do with collegiate recruiting? Now lets bring this back to focus. Miami put most of those NFL athletes through when they had winning programs, but they still muster up a few (2) Pro's as does most college each year. Look at how many Pro's Florida put through this year, and ask a top recruit why they shouldn't have high ambitions when playing for that program. Also, I stated that Miami use to have a prestigious winning football program.
Lastly how many 5 star players actually hit the books and care for their education? That also can carry a 3.0 GPA instead the bare minimum like alot these colleges require. A few in far in between do.. Looking back how many 5 star players were sure fire 1st rounders? Matt Ryan wasn't a 5 star, neither was Brain Urlacher.
@StoicBehavioR Most NFL players were not 5 star athletes out of High school, but most 5 star athletes aspire to be NFL players. It's hard to get an athlete who is as educationally gifted as they are athletically gifted. Just as every kid in school are not gifted enough to even attend college or a prestigious college, it is even harder to find a dominant student/ athlete. It's crazy that they can still remember 100 plays and tomorrows math formula after being hit full speed at 20mph many times.
Than you know why ND doesn't get that many 5 star prospects. They get a few Michael Floyd, Jimmy Clausen, Kyle Rudolph, and Manti Te'o. But to stock pile them isn't going to happen at a school with high admission standards. One of the problems ND has and will always have. Lou Holtz didn't have that problem because he fought to have it lowered and when they did lower it, ND became a football factory. When he left the jacked it back up..
Lastly kids today have people in their ear telling them how they're going make it to the NFL. So they stop applying themselves in the class room and move on to just football which they don't realize that 1% of high school football players make the NFL..

Why is ND not winning, that's easy. It's called "PLAYER DEVELOPMENT," Weis could recruit and sell ND but he couldn't develop them. Reason why Kelly was hire his track record of player development speaks for itself..
Both Bama and SC were called dead programs before Saban or Carroll arrived. Hell Florida wasn't what they are now until UM got there. Please forgive me if I came off as condescending or incohereant I just want a logical explanation as to why BK will fail while Guys like Carroll, Saban, UM, and even Tressel didn't
Yes i know Bama beat the crap out of Florida which is why I said few teams can stay with them in games. Note the word few. in 2008 the UC offense was terrible and the defense carried that team to an 11-3 record and that D was ranked around 20th in the nation that year (please correct me if I am wrong). As I said before all but one of those players returned to UC in 2009 so you could expect a significant drop off in how well that D would play.
Also, ND always recruits the same kind of player, self centered pretty boy pussies that happen to be top performers in HS. You have to be in your 30's to remember when Notre Dame was a contender. Even Navy USED to win Championships. ND as it once was is long gone, and everyone sees iyt except ND fans. Its becoming pathetic
I assume you are speaking of Clausen, I was never a big fan of his attitude but can you name another player like that? Yes the last time ND was a contender was 93 and the last title was in 88 I am not denying that ND has not been what it once was but the same could be said about SC in the 80's and 90's but you still have not answered one questions what logical reason do you have that BK will not win at ND.
No I cant name any of them because they all suck. How would I know the names of suck players for a sorry team? I have seen those panzys crying on the sidelines and holding hands after they get their asses beat though.
You do realize that some schools sing their alma mater after every game ND's tadition is to stand arm in arm and sing their's after every game. Now by your own admission people who love the ame of football enough to be emotional after a tough loss are a "Pansy" so Tebow is a "Pansy" Favre crying after retiring the first time was a "Pansy"? So Clausen sucked ?Projected first round QB. Tate Sucked? Projected early second round WR?Te'o who was heavily sought by SC sucks?
And you still have yet to answer my question what logical reason do you have the BK will fail at ND. You are entitled to your opinion of BK as am I but I am curious as to why you assume he will fail at ND? I have remained quite civil with our "banter" not once have I downplayed UC but you resort to hurling insults about ND at every turn. Why can't you be as civil in turn. I'm assuming you're a UC fan( if I am wrong please correct me) why weren't you so enraged when BK left CMU?
Dude, you don't listen too well. I already told you one big reason BK will fail at ND. This is the most obvious reason. ND had a good offense last year. Their defens was horrible. Cincinnatti also had a very bad defense and a good offense. ND should have hired a Def minded coach. They didnt. BK could have helped himself out by getting a stong Def coord. He didnt. He hired his Def coord from Cinci that was terrible. Look up the stats. How will things be different on defense? How?
Diffferent more talented experienced players. I stated earlier that in 2008 UC's offense was average at best the D that year was good, now not great mind you but still pretty good, why was that D better than 09's because they lost 10 starters to graduation and the NFL you and everyone else have focused on this past year and this past year only you're not looking at BK's career as a whole and yes you have to do that.
Pretty classy guy, especially after being betrayed by that scumbag. Who does that to an undefeated team? Karma's a bitch Brian Kelly. You'll find out soon. So will you Notre Dame. Look at ND weakest schedule in the history of college football next year. Prediction - BK wins 10 games, gets a huge extension and here we go again. This guy is going to fail. Nice defense you built last night against Florida. No wonder you backed out of the fnal game you punk. Karmas a bitch..

Really? I hear that every year that Notre Dame has a paper thin schedule and every year its turns out to be quite tougher than anyone thought. This year ND had the 37th ranked schedule UC had the 44. And you also realize that on UC defense there were 10 new starters whom faced speed like none other on the Florida offense. Heck I've seen SEC teams have trouble keeping up with Florida's players you expect guys who were 2 and 3 stars coming out of high school in Ohio to keep up with Florida boys.
I don't really understand your comment. Let's be clear on one thing. Notre Dame sucks, and will continue to suck. Brian Kelly is an opportunist whos days are numbered. Read my previous comment again, and then remember it after it comes true
I was simply pointing out that I've heard it all before, I was pointing out the sos of both schools and the fact that few teams in college football can keep pace with Florida. Please forgive me if I didn't make myself clear now as to BK being an oppurtunist whom will fail at ND I'd like to see a viable reason as to why he'll fail at ND rather than karma. In response to ND suckin yes its true they suck just as SC did in the 80's and 90's right before Carroll just as Bama did just before Saban.
Coaches should be forced to fulfil the obligations of contracts. As a Finn who was a college athlete in the US, if the coach dragged my ass across the Atlantic, then skipped out, he would not make it to his new job. Players make life decisions based on the coaches' promises, and then the coaches leave for money, which is behaviour that has no place in educational environments. Also, what is with Cincinnati? Three successful coaches skip out on Xavier, leaving them to suck, now UC.
him and his teammate has every right to be upset the man turned his back on those kids, the same kids he told over and over that he is not going anywhere
but Pike and Gilyard will be leaving so maybe he left just in time
If Brian Kelly left ND for the Pros 3 weeks before the biggest game in the schools history he would be CRUCIFIED by the ND fans. he demanded loyalty from the players but did not give it. What comes around goes around BK. Better win quick those ND fans will turn on you faster than you can say Charlie Weiss
I feel for Cinci Fans...Ima FSU fan but I kinda want the Gators to win to support the state of Florida, but I won't mind AT ALL if Cinci wins especially since I just found out Gilyard is a Florida boy....give UF you're best game!!!
Of course I did. He's acting like a brat. He walked out on the announcement and proceeded to whine about his coach leaving . He acted like it came out of nowhere, even though Kelly told the team he would be talking to Notre Dame. Gilyard has no right to be upset at Kelly when he did the same thing to benefit Gilyard and his teammates 3 years ago.
Kelly told his players he was going to talk to Notre Dame when he had actually already had the meeting....
The point is, this video is not him complaining, it is him telling people to stay supportive and to come take pride in his team. What part of that is bitching? Kelly led the team on for a long time and made them think he would stay. Who can blame Gilyard for walking out when he hears his coach is going to "greener pastures" when CInci is undefeated and playing in their biggest game ever?
The difference is that he never told the assistant coaches, the ad or the school president that he interviewed for the ND job. BTW,why dont look at where Mardy Gilyard came from, then you will realize what kind of man he is. He was sleeping in his car and working four jobs to get back to college and back to the football field. This man has more heart than you do,so shut up.
Give me a break. He even said on his Twitter that he was talking to ND. What does Gilyard's heart have to do with the matter? I'm not questioning whether or not he's a good person. Unless Gilyard was upset at Kelly for leaving CM to coach him, then he has no right to be upset about him leaving now for ND. Turnabout is fair play. If Mardy's only chance to play in the NFL was to skip the Bowl Game, you don't think he'd do it?
Mardy had that chance last year, but didnt left and he is even better than he was last year. The sad part is coaches leave immediately, but the "student-athletes" have to sit out a year. It is far? No.
Mardy not going pro is a totally different situation. Gilyard had a lot to gain by staying. He's improved his draft stock immensely this season. Second, by not going pro early, he wasn't missing out on perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill his dream. The NFL is still there a year later, the Notre Dame job isn't.
You won't get an argument from me that the system stinks, but you can't be mad at the people who have to work within that system.
It's a little different. UC is playing in the Sugar bowl and they are undefeated. Whta does everyone mean by doing whats best to support his family. What is 2 million dollars not enough to support a family?
i respect the hell out of this kid....but theyre playing Florida, remember....2 NT's in last 3 years....Tebow, Spikes, Dunlap, Haden, Hernandez....still arugably the 2nd best team in the country behind Alabama.....good luck kid....you might think you got this but I dont think you know what youre getting yourself into....go SEC!!!!
Players like Mardy Gilyard,Alex Daniels and Tony Pike are the leaders of the UC Bearcats and I truly believe that they want to show the city and the country that they are Bearcats and will beat Florida. People wont think so,but a highly motivated team with something to prove is a very dangerous team to beat.
I know Cincinnati is not a "top" school but this year shows what is possible. If BK can last 4yrs at Notre Dame I will be suprised. There is a reason they haven't won a champonship in 24 years. He could of had a lifetime job at UC and been very sucessful. Go UC and give the Gators hell!
I'm a lifelong ND fan who is thriled by the hiring of Brian Kelly! That being said I do hate how college football is setup where shit like this has to happen. If they didn't have a month in between confrence championships and Bowl Games this wouldn't have to happen. Oh well. I'll be rooting for Cinci in the Sugar Bowl...
Oh yeah, Kelly will find in the near future that life at ND is not as patient and forgiving as the UC community. He'll never go undefeated at ND, because they don't play too many softies. And if he doesn't, as Paul Hornung put it back in '04, get enough of the "Black athlete" right away into the program, he might not last as long as that fat pig Weiss did for the Irish.
Good for Marty Gilyard. I hope he and his teammates kick some Gator butt and show everyone that THEY were mainly the reason UC made a BCS bowl, not Kelly.
Listen, I feel sorry for BK Cincinnati players, I really do. But who here wouldn't leave your job for better pay, a better work environment, and more potential? What was he to do? Stop recruiting for Cincy so that he could leave the job 3-4 years from now without hurting anyone's feelings? He's leaving the program better off than when he started, and he did a lot for those young men. It sucks but that's what happens when coaches take new jobs.
Serious UC is a second rate program. Amazes me that these idiots come on here and talk about how Brian Kelly is this and that. Truth is no one in there right mind would pass up a coaching job like the Golden Domers to stay in Cincy,
If UC was a second rate program, then why it is that they have more players in the NFL than Notre Dame? Dont forget UC had six players drafted last year and will probably have 4 to 6 more players drafted this year. Notre Dame will have at least three players drafted this year. The next coach(Butch Jones or Jeff Quinn)will have a better team than Notre Dame next year. One more thing:Kelly was winning with Dantonio's players, like Pike,Gilyard and Webster.
That is a blatantly false statment. UC currently has 11 players in the NFL. Notre Dame has almost triple that number, with 31.
As for who will be better next year, what does that have to do with anything? It's to be expected that a team who just fired a coach is currently in worse shape than a team that's been in two straight BCS games. The question is, can Kelly develop the good recruits Weis got the last few years as well as he developed talent in his other jobs.
Because Dantonio's offense was predictable and boring. btw,the so called experts called UC recruiting as the worst in the country, but those players included Pike,Gilyard.Revels,Webster and Brad Jones. Have you noticed that Dantonio record at Michigan State is basically the same as his record was at UC? And he has "better"players
Yes I have noticed that about Dantonio and the amazing comment was sarcasm (my bad if you didn't catch that). Now going back to your previous comment about Kelly winning with Dantonio's players the way that comment is generally percieved is that a coach is only good because he had the talent his predecessor left him(the same argument used against Weis). If the Cincy players were as good as you we are assuming they are why is it that it took Kelly coaching to make them 10-3, 11-3, and 12-0?
@joespeed87 I guess we will have to wait till next season to find out. But I would briefly like to go back to your original post again. You are assuming the Jones will win with Kelly's players. Why is it that Kelly can't win with Weis' players as (and this is according to recruiting rankings and assessments and not in response to the coaching they development the players recieved from the previous coach) ND's players are significantly more talented? How many starters are returning?
@joespeed87 And you didn't answer my question if they are more talented and better as we are assuming here why is it that it took kelly coachin to take them to the records they have. (I am in no way trying to be condescending just trying to have a civil discussion with you even though I disagree)
Bad move for Kelly he won't be able to recurit top players like Florida and other big schools bcuz ND is very stricit and hard and no top talent high school player will join bcuz of that college for them is about FUN not hard work
ND is garbage and is gonna stay with or without Kelly. Cincy is gonna continue to become a rising school. Kelly is a bitch who straight up lied to Cincy players, telling them they would be the first to know his decision and they weren't even close to the first. Gilyard is a monster!!
Frankly i don't care because I am not a Cincinnati fan nor a ND fan, I just feel bad for guys like Mardy, he promised he would not leave and now be bails on them. I just think he is a money hungry POS and Karma will come to bite him as it did for Rich Rodriguez.
Mardy Gilyard has evolved into a leader and a person that represents some of the best qualities that makes a Bearcat. Its time to come together as Bearcats, not Brian Kelly fans, and see this team through. Juncta Juvant, 1819
Notre Dame is such a winning school compared to UC. Yeah. Not to mention a public university - not some institution that takes its marching orders from the Vatican.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why would a good coach choose to stay at a glorified community college like Cincinnati when he has the opportunity to become the head coach at the university that IS college football? Smart move coach, forget those bitter losers like this guy and look towards a bright future at Notre Dame.
Glorified community college? 39,667 students? Top 25 Public Research University? Number four university in cooperative education? Opera, Interior Design, Conducting, Criminal Justice, Pediatrics all top 5 programs?
Why don't you do some research about our fine University before you talk out of your ass and base your opinions on our athletic facilities? Thanks.
Notre Dame will replace them; it always does. It is not a flash in the pan, like Cincinnati. That is why coach Kelly dumped the Bearcats for the Irish. He made a wise decision.
Another overpaid, fat ass football coach. Fuck him - who cares? He's paid millions and us little people have to mortgage our souls to get our kids through college.
This man is the face of Cincinnati. He is a genuinely good human being, and I am proud to support him and the Bearcats. You guys will be fine, and I know you can beat the gators. See you in New Orleans boys. Remember only the players and the students stick around after the final buzzer goes
Varsity dear varsity, your loyal children we will be. LOYAL LOYAL CHILDREN WE! WILL! BE!
Let's see, Cincinnati...or Notre Dame....no brainer...GO IRISH

Now by your own admission people who love the ame of football enough to be emotional after a tough loss are a "Pansy" so Tebow is a "Pansy" Favre crying after retiring the first time was a "Pansy"? So Clausen sucked ?Projected first round QB. Tate Sucked? Projected early second round WR?Te'o who was heavily sought by SC sucks?
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
And you still have yet to answer my question what logical reason do you have the BK will fail at ND. You are entitled to your opinion of BK as am I but I am curious as to why you assume he will fail at ND? I have remained quite civil with our "banter" not once have I downplayed UC but you resort to hurling insults about ND at every turn. Why can't you be as civil in turn. I'm assuming you're a UC fan( if I am wrong please correct me) why weren't you so enraged when BK left CMU?
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
Dude, you don't listen too well. I already told you one big reason BK will fail at ND. This is the most obvious reason. ND had a good offense last year. Their defens was horrible. Cincinnatti also had a very bad defense and a good offense. ND should have hired a Def minded coach. They didnt. BK could have helped himself out by getting a stong Def coord. He didnt. He hired his Def coord from Cinci that was terrible. Look up the stats. How will things be different on defense? How?
nellychess 2 years ago

ND had a harder schedule that Cinci
goldendomer025 2 years ago
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
I don't really understand your comment. Let's be clear on one thing. Notre Dame sucks, and will continue to suck. Brian Kelly is an opportunist whos days are numbered. Read my previous comment again, and then remember it after it comes true
nellychess 2 years ago

Cry, baby, cry. You didn't see the UC players complaining when Kelly left Central Michigan before their bowl game so he could coach Cincinnati.
UDFanpuck33 2 years ago
did you even watch the video? He's not doing anything even close to crying.
metalfang5 2 years ago 2
Of course I did. He's acting like a brat. He walked out on the announcement and proceeded to whine about his coach leaving . He acted like it came out of nowhere, even though Kelly told the team he would be talking to Notre Dame. Gilyard has no right to be upset at Kelly when he did the same thing to benefit Gilyard and his teammates 3 years ago.
UDFanpuck33 2 years ago

This man has more heart than you do,so shut up.
joespeed87 2 years ago
Actually he was
Sleeping in his car, working 4 jobs, and still helping under-privileged Cincinnati youth.
haveacrapyday 2 years ago 2
Give me a break. He even said on his Twitter that he was talking to ND. What does Gilyard's heart have to do with the matter? I'm not questioning whether or not he's a good person. Unless Gilyard was upset at Kelly for leaving CM to coach him, then he has no right to be upset about him leaving now for ND. Turnabout is fair play. If Mardy's only chance to play in the NFL was to skip the Bowl Game, you don't think he'd do it?
UDFanpuck33 2 years ago
Mardy had that chance last year, but didnt left and he is even better than he was last year. The sad part is coaches leave immediately, but the "student-athletes" have to sit out a year. It is far? No.
joespeed87 2 years ago
Mardy not going pro is a totally different situation. Gilyard had a lot to gain by staying. He's improved his draft stock immensely this season. Second, by not going pro early, he wasn't missing out on perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill his dream. The NFL is still there a year later, the Notre Dame job isn't.
You won't get an argument from me that the system stinks, but you can't be mad at the people who have to work within that system.

Players like Mardy Gilyard,Alex Daniels and Tony Pike are the leaders of the UC Bearcats and I truly believe that they want to show the city and the country that they are Bearcats and will beat Florida. People wont think so,but a highly motivated team with something to prove is a very dangerous team to beat.
joespeed87 2 years ago 3

I know Cincinnati is not a "top" school but this year shows what is possible. If BK can last 4yrs at Notre Dame I will be suprised. There is a reason they haven't won a champonship in 24 years. He could of had a lifetime job at UC and been very sucessful. Go UC and give the Gators hell!
jamesmonty2003 2 years ago
I'm a lifelong ND fan who is thriled by the hiring of Brian Kelly! That being said I do hate how college football is setup where shit like this has to happen. If they didn't have a month in between confrence championships and Bowl Games this wouldn't have to happen. Oh well. I'll be rooting for Cinci in the Sugar Bowl...

Terrible move by Kelly. The black athlete doesn't want to go to "Notra Dame"
dipdipsetset 2 years ago
Oh yeah, Kelly will find in the near future that life at ND is not as patient and forgiving as the UC community. He'll never go undefeated at ND, because they don't play too many softies. And if he doesn't, as Paul Hornung put it back in '04, get enough of the "Black athlete" right away into the program, he might not last as long as that fat pig Weiss did for the Irish.

It sucks but that's what happens when coaches take new jobs.
killianred01 2 years ago
Serious UC is a second rate program. Amazes me that these idiots come on here and talk about how Brian Kelly is this and that. Truth is no one in there right mind would pass up a coaching job like the Golden Domers to stay in Cincy,
dldowell1122 2 years ago
LOL, Really?
selfexplanitory 2 years ago
If UC was a second rate program, then why it is that they have more players in the NFL than Notre Dame? Dont forget UC had six players drafted last year and will probably have 4 to 6 more players drafted this year. Notre Dame will have at least three players drafted this year. The next coach(Butch Jones or Jeff Quinn)will have a better team than Notre Dame next year. One more thing:Kelly was winning with Dantonio's players, like Pike,Gilyard and Webster.
joespeed87 2 years ago
That is a blatantly false statment. UC currently has 11 players in the NFL. Notre Dame has almost triple that number, with 31.
As for who will be better next year, what does that have to do with anything? It's to be expected that a team who just fired a coach is currently in worse shape than a team that's been in two straight BCS games. The question is, can Kelly develop the good recruits Weis got the last few years as well as he developed talent in his other jobs.
UDFanpuck33 2 years ago 2
UC players in the NFL 14 ND players in the NFL 49.
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
And One more thing joespeed if he was winning with Dantonio's amazing players why is it that Dantonio didn't go 12-0?
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago 4
Because Dantonio's offense was predictable and boring. btw,the so called experts called UC recruiting as the worst in the country, but those players included Pike,Gilyard.Revels,Webster and Brad Jones. Have you noticed that Dantonio record at Michigan State is basically the same as his record was at UC? And he has "better"players
joespeed87 2 years ago
Yes I have noticed that about Dantonio and the amazing comment was sarcasm (my bad if you didn't catch that). Now going back to your previous comment about Kelly winning with Dantonio's players the way that comment is generally percieved is that a coach is only good because he had the talent his predecessor left him(the same argument used against Weis). If the Cincy players were as good as you we are assuming they are why is it that it took Kelly coaching to make them 10-3, 11-3, and 12-0?
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
Just like Butch Jones won with Brian Kelly's players at CMU. Butch Jones will win with Brian Kelly's players-again.
joespeed87 2 years ago
@joespeed87 I guess we will have to wait till next season to find out. But I would briefly like to go back to your original post again. You are assuming the Jones will win with Kelly's players. Why is it that Kelly can't win with Weis' players as (and this is according to recruiting rankings and assessments and not in response to the coaching they development the players recieved from the previous coach) ND's players are significantly more talented? How many starters are returning?
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
@joespeed87 And you didn't answer my question if they are more talented and better as we are assuming here why is it that it took kelly coachin to take them to the records they have. (I am in no way trying to be condescending just trying to have a civil discussion with you even though I disagree)
ImmokaleeHB10 2 years ago
Bad move for Kelly he won't be able to recurit top players like Florida and other big schools bcuz ND is very stricit and hard and no top talent high school player will join bcuz of that college for them is about FUN not hard work
