  • im not going to deny that its neet to see these trees but the fact of the matter is a lot of people get the wrong idea when it comes to logging and if they just sat down and did a little resurce they would really come up with different views talk to a logger and you will get a different view other than one of the eco nut

  • @norcallogger

wrong idea? WTF Maxxam has raped northern California old growth forests pretty much to extinction. The warrior and hero's who are sacrificing everything to save them deserve to be treated 1000x better than they have been. Whatever actions tree defense activists have taken has been justified by the pure good they contribute to our earth!

  • Yeah this is a temperate rainforest but a tropical one would be different

  • 141 people must be rednecks

  • Is it me but at 4m55s to 5m05s the tree has half a face in a red colour. Thanks for your inspiration TF!

  • I've been to the Olympic National Forest a couple times now and no words can describe the feeling you get being surrounded by such old growth. You conveyed every feeling I ever felt trudging around in those fern and moss covered forests. The fact that you say this place trumps ONF boggles my mind. I can't wait to experience this place for myself.

  • The self-righteous hypocrit discriminating KOOKS on here make me laugh. "trees feel pain" don't cut them down , they're BIG and OLD ! But this carrot stick is SMALL and YOUNG , I'll RAPE it out of the ground , and bite it's head off ! LMFAO ! ! !

  • I've always wanted to live in a deep wood area like this, but there are no places like this for sale. I'd want to build a small cabin there.

  • Imagine what the world would look like without there ever being humans around.

Here in DK nature doesn't exist anymore, everything is either city, road, plantations, fields for crops; there is propably not one square foot left that has not been ploughed or dug or built upon as some point in time.

What homo sapiens has done to nature is rape.

    Thanks, Ekhaat

  • Thanks Thunderf00t this is really inspiring, thank you for taking us along on your journey

  • For a Man, Women or extraterrestrial to bring any type of harm to these beautiful objects is SHAMEFUL! Dollars or any other currency is not worth 1000 or 2000 years of life period. It's one thing to drill for oil in a place people are not happy with, Quite another to take a life 1000 + years old, shame on us! I knew about it, your video just brought it back home to me.

    Shame, Shame, Shame!

    Gerald

  • Gerald,

Get real. Your grandparents and great-grandparents demanded the clear lumber, without knots, that came from the old growth. They would not buy the knotty lumber.

You and others here need to lose the halos.

There are thousands of acres of preserved Redwood, with MILLIONS of board feet of growth added yearly. They also grow in New Zealand, but they don't name each one and hold sceances for each one that has departed.

  • Hey Buddy, since I don't know your name.

As far as I know this channel doesn't support Halo's at all but it does support life. Not many things live for 2000 + years on this planet. Fuck the wood, there are better and more viable options to getting wood products.

Whether you like it or not this species will be protected. You my good sir Baldrad are in the minority on this issue.

I wish you luck on getting your unknotty board feet in which you can stick where the sun doesn't shine. Gerald

  • Heh, I never was too fond of nature untill this channel... I can't believe the beauty there is on this planet... Too bad there are people willing to destroy this wonderful place just to make a profit... It truely is a sad thing. =[

  • clearly vote botted

  • Beautifully made film of a beautiful place. Everything was in respectful harmony although underlain by sorrow. I think that even if I did not know English, I would have understood your meaning from your hushed and measured tone alone. A true work of art.

  • to be in a place like that must be awe inspiring, i would to visit there someday just to view the true beauty of nature.

Thank you for uploading this Thunderf00t :)

  • So this is how you feed your spirituality, good for you man, seriously, I would do that any day

  • Fantastic video . Many forrests so majestic must be preserved.

  • Please, learn proper English before you call someone out.

  • these guys also dont look to be old growth

  • i was waiting for tree beard to come wandering out

  • Beautiful forest, I'd really like to visit there once.

  • Wheres the wildlife? Is there any birds there or was the camcorder not good enough to pick them up? its too scilent, a forest without birds is freaky!

  • Howdy.

I was there last week. Google this:

mdvaden + Grove of Titans Redwoods

You will find my page with videos and photos of the largest coast redwoods.

Iluvatar, Lost Monarch, Del Norte Titan, Atlas Tree.

Orick .. yes .. I drove through it. Odd town for my taste. People need to realize that sometimes a trade must diminish. I had a roommate whose family were skilled patternmakers, and computer machines put them out of business. At least they moved to furniture and adapted - no grudges.

  • Its easy to cut down these trees. BUT the sequioas took ages to get that big and they have supported life - surely logging redwoods is IGNORANCE.

A tiny fragment of the redwood forest remains and we need to save them. People in cities always want more MONEY and they will never stop wanting more! Even if ALL the TREES WERE GONE! Old growth forests are vital

  • P.S., I'm sending this to my father. You are living a life long dream of his. He wants nothing more than to see the Red Woods in Cali. before dying!

  • I just now stumbled onto these videos. I appreciate you sharing your adventures with us and look forward to watching the rest. Peace, love and free thought be with you!

  • Wonderful!

  • One of your finest videos yet. I stand by my earlier statement comparing you to a new David Attenborough...

There's this odd notion that plants, since they can't think and feel, are wholly disposable and meaningless, barely worthy of being considered 'alive' at all. That's always bothered me. Especially when coming face-to-face, as it were, with the oldest and greatest living things on this planet - trees like the ones Thunderf00t's filmed here. They *live* through so much, and deserve better.

  • Amaritudine, I agree with you. Except for the fact that we dispose of them meaninglessly because they are not considered "alive". Look how we treat animals; People seriously believe any living thing other than a human is for our haughty use and disposal!

  • Plants feel pain.

  • No, to feel pain it must have something of a self-awareness or it won't know it's being damaged. Even if they would react to "pain", it wouldn't be a feeling but just an unconscious instinct of survival, not rooted in any awareness similiar to i.e. animals.

The reason these trees need to be protected is not because of any "hippie" ideals, not because of their great past, but because of the future of our planet. They are our sources of survival, so ironically even saving them would be egoistic.

  • Plants do have self-awareness. Do some research on the subject.

  • hehe lol you are very smart^^

and totally right....that was perfectest reply i ever read on youtube : )

  • Redwoods and giant sequoias are incredible. General Sherman and great, but I remember just walking through the forest where there were no tourists. It was totally quite and these massive trees, some of them older than the "Flood" I'm sure, towered over us.

  • With seeing so many faces and the mood set by f00t's tone and words, it made me remember what it was like to do shrooms.

Can't help but wonder if the f00t himself was shrooming when he made this :D

  • Redwoods have stood since the age before man. Let people know why these trees are important!

  • I can't find any reference to a "James Irvine State Park". I can, however, find a "James Irvine Trail" in "Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park" along the northern coast of California.

Do you have to watch out for bears or pumas out on those trails?

  • Very inspirational video Baref00t! :P

  • We had a similar situation in BC with old growth forests being clearcut. It's a shame.

  • incredible

  • That was a touching reflection tf.

  • agreed.

  • TF Muir, Nice piece. Welcome to my home.

    The west is the best.

  • it's great how you did this barefoot.

  • Those are far too beautiful to cut down. But seriously, who'd wanna try? Looks like harvesting trees like that would be a major pain in the ass.

  • It's a testament to a capitalist system that values money and market forces before ALL else.

Although those in power can always print more money, natural resources are finite and no matter how much we believe we are natures master, we will pay the ultimate price for such hubris, so long as it pollutes our society.

  • "It's a testament to a capitalist system "

No, It's a testament to stupidity, the same shit happens in Communist countries.

  • ... actually I think your right.

    People suck =(

  • Whatever their political ideology, people suck whenever they feel that their greed warrants the destruction of anything and anyone whose existence is a barrier to profit.

'Economic expediency' is such a phenomenally powerful driving force in our world today; people live and die for it, even though the entire notion of money is a pretty abstract and artificial construct.

  • The tallest tree in the world, named Hyperion was found in 2006 nearby Orick, Ca. {near where this was filmed.}..I'ts actual location is still kept secret. It stands 379.1 ft. tall...........Fortunately the parks are large, and what happened on the east coast in this country, where all the old growth was cut down, didnt happen here.

  • I'll be retiring in that area. I'ts the most beautiful place on earth.

  • sad indeed,

  • Well, there goes the lingering threat of my faith in humanity...

  • If you see any treesitters in need of a roommate, give them my number.

  • Female tree sitters, hippies, willing to get naked, eh?

  • I like the way you think. Road trip?

  • With the promise of naked female hippies, I would drive to the ends of the earth.

  • People suck.

    Thank you for the video.

  • I hate the human race.

  • Which race? I think that you mean the human species. ;)

  • Human race is a common term in my part of the world.. it's synonymous to human species.

  • On a similar note, the greed of man is such that we would ruin untouched land in Alaska so we can continue to drive our SUVs cheaply.

  • wow this is a beautiful forest

  • Fantastic video, i hope in the future i will get the opportunity to go and see those magnificent old forests.

  • Wow you really lived up to if not surpassed the name of this channel on that one. That was an absolutely beautiful video. It reminds me of a conservation I had once. A person who told me that government protected lands were pointless and a waste of space and money. "We could just make tree farms" he argued. Yes the mentality that cut down those majestic trees is still alive and well unfortunately.

  • I meant to say conversation not conservation above... excuse the freudian dyslexia?

  • good pictures

The trees are not as big as I though they would be

Thanks for showing this, I have never seen California, and the Red Woods

  • tragic story, great footage.

You should have your own TV show :D

  • At 0:02, I was hoping that was Tacgnol. :(

  • Great footage TF, wish I had a chance to visit that place once.

  • you went all Attenborough in this one; not a bad thing.

  • where you naked? lol that would be a laugh to do, get seriously in touch with nature haha!

  • I saw that bare foot, too!

  • The religious cut these giants down for mere profit ! Forgive them Thunderf00t they know not what they do..

  • That was superb mate, you really got a sense of the majesty and age of the place... really emotive.

  • D: ...

  • You should definitely make more videos like this, and less with planes. 5/5

  • realy beautiful, seems so peaceful, i need to go ther someday

  • great vid

  • We are born, we live, and then we die, but the forest merely blinks in all that time.

  • that place looks beautiful

  • Amazing...

I must witness these in person some day...

    Thank you.

  • Lobbyists will be the fall of WESTERN CIVILIZATION.

  • Thunderf00t, are you ill?

  • I was unsure of why you titled such a beautiful place "the saddest story," but in the light of the ending I agree, the saddest story of all.

When will we learn to stop raping our planet?

  • Beautiful. I envy you so much, I wish i had the money to travel their as you do. You're an inspiration Tf00t. I wish England had been able to save it's famous forests, like Sherwood, which is now reduced to a crabby cabbage patch. :(

  • I really hope they save that place... it is a real treasure.

  • Awesome, one of my favorite places to go. . .

  • The Romantics would be proud of your pastoral journey

  • creepy...

  • its an ewok village!

  • Yub nub

    eee chop yub nub

ah toe meet toe pee-chee keene

    g'noop dock fling oh ah

    Yah wah

    (Ewok Song) xP

  • That is where it was filmed.
