  • Im moving to Canada soon, but i live in England and have different education levels. Can i still join?

  • @tigerpaws77 You need your Canadian citizenship first.

  • Ahhh, I just turned eighteen last year, and i'm going into the recruitment center when my family moves back to Petawawa this summer. I've been an Army Brat all my life but i'm so nervous about basic, aha.

  • I would like to know where these specific graduates are now. This was some years ago I'm sure most are out now?

  • HAHAHA I laugh at the people who are getting scared while being yelled at. I was in Army Cadets for 4 years, I am used to it. All through Basic I will be laughing lolololololol.

  • Could I have a link for the Basic Up season 1 full series so i dont have keep searching for the next episode on youtube. thanks

  • @jtwwhyte This is the link to season one of Basic Up:

    army.forces.gc.ca/land-terre/life-vie/basic-voie/indexS01-eng.asp

  • I am 32 and an industrial electrician I have also compleeted my millwright training and am ready to sit that test. I would not be able to keep up with this younger crew, Is there something slower pace like a pre prep camp? or do we all get dumped in the fire pit?

  • part of the army and love it but the bilingual thing is killing

  • This seems like a good place for a quick question. I have a facial tattoo close to my eye. Would I be declined from the CF? It isn't offensive at all just a triangle and some lines, small and simple.

  • @Snakesaber For more information on this topic, please contact your local recruiting office.

  • @Snakesaber dark side of the moon?

  • can u only do the basic training only or do u have to actually serve in the army even after u finish the basic training?

  • @imnoobish Participating in basic training is available to those applying to the CF. For more information, please contact your local recruiting office.

  • @imnoobish Why would you want to do basic training without serving.... its not worth the pay regardless

  • can I have basic up in fench???

  • @alexis8968 Basic Up is available on our French YouTube channel, nouvellesdelarmeecdn, and it is called "Forces du Futur."

  • I heard that the age limit for the reserves has been changed from 16 to 17, is this true?

  • @chippy506 16 years old to apply to the Reserves, with parents’ permission.

  • @chippy506 I heard the same thing, chippy. The Forces website seems to say the same thing, so I guess I'm applying next year.

  • Wow, Adam Hudson is from the same town as me. Wonder how he's doing!

  • 'tiresome' is not the word he was looking for

  • Can't wait to get my life started. This looks daunting though.

  • Why is there two "Basic Up Episode 1" videos?

  • @ShadowDeathBl1tz The Basic Up videos are in sequences. The titles will go as follows: Basic Up: Season 1, Episode 1, 1/4, then the same title finishing in 2/4, then 3/4, etc. This particular episode has 4 parts.

  • @CanadianArmyNews Is there someplace I can download or watch this all in one piece? I would like the Wife it see it also.

  • @scariguy You can download the Basic Up episodes from the official Army website.

  • @CanadianArmyNews Thanks

  • @CanadianArmyNews can u give me a link to where on the Canadian Army news site u can download the season 1 episodes

  • i found the water training the easiest but thats because i love water, but it is kind of scary just saying

  • How many push-up's/sit-up's should i be able to do going into the recruitment office?

  • @chriss2112 There are different minimum performance objectives based on age and gender for the complete list please visit our web site or contact your local recruiting office.

  • I bet if society was run the same way with discipline and low tolerance for nonsense our streets would be a lot safer

  • was this ever aired on tv

  • 2:31 HAHAH, wait- is that a water slide? LOL

  • Canadians seem to have it down, the skills and drills and banter of UK Forces with all the gucci kit of the yanks

  • @TheSpaceCadet89 gucci kit....i wish

  • I'm doing a Co Op next year. Just about to take my CFAT. Can't wait !!

  • @NineBeforeEight i'm applying for co-op next school year too..which province are you in? You're doing your CFAT already?.. i cant apply until septemberO_o

  • When do you get the dogtags ?

  • @WASDJKLOL Usually you can apply for them after your BMQ.

  • @CanadianArmyNews Dog tags were issued in the 6th to 10th week. Somewhere in there we also received permanent id's.

  • Can someone with ADHD enlist?

  • @memyselfandcorpse2 During the application process, our recruiting medical personnel will assess your medical situation. A complete medical examination is necessary when assessing medical fitness for the CF. This is also important when restrictions may limit the career choices being considered.

If you have specific medical questions you should contact the recruiting centre nearest you and ask to speak with a member of the medical staff directly.

  • @CanadianArmyNews Specific medical standards are neither published on our site nor provided to applicants since they refer to specific criteria only CF health care professionals are trained to utilize. Once you submit an application our recruiting medical personnel will conduct a medical exam.

  • Can someone please answer my question? The Military always comes down to my school and passes out info about the Army, and I asked them some questions but gave me unclear answers. I just wanted to know, could I be a Field Artillery soldier, but still stay in Canada? or at least in somewhere not engaged in combat?

  • @DR4EVUR Your local recruiting centre can provide you with this information.

  • If you join as a Reservist they cant deploy you, if you dont want to; if you join as a Reg force soldier, guess what, you are now part of the army and once your training is completed you might or might not have to deploy depending of the Operationnal requirements

  • @DR4EVUR what is the point of being a Field Artillery soldier if you aren't going to be firing live rounds in real situations.

  • @DR4EVUR I'm not in the canadian army, i'm in the british army but to be honest mate if you don't want to be in combat then i wouldnt join any army

  • @DR4EVUR No, not unless you go Reserve Force.

  • @DR4EVUR If you are going to serve your country they will most likely send you over seas "at some point" im not saying if you sign up your leaving its not like that its going to take quite a while.

If you would like to do some kind of part time artillery then you would have to go to your local recruit centre and talk with an officer and sign up for a part time job " part time only requires you to be part of the military when they really need you"

  • @DR4EVUR thatss umm a wierd question u get called to do combat when they need it. If there is never a need for you which is really unlikely then yes u wouldn;t be in combat. U would probably get shipped out of canada though.

  • @DR4EVUR yes you can but it would require to to enlist in the reserves and not the regular forces. if you are a reservist you do not have to leave the country unless you volunteer

  • When i join the reserves because im 16 right now, would i go through something like this? and when i do reg force when i graduate from high school would i have to do this as well?

  • Sort of. Depending on where you live you usually attend multiple weekends each week month though out the year with your PRes unit at their amoury and depending on your regiment you might have to go away on summer course before you join your regiment.

  • How old is this?, Basic is not 10 weeks long, its 14 in total and its not at fort st, jean....its in the megaplex on the other side of the city.....RMC is in the Fort.

  • @MrShitHammer

they recently changed it to 10 weeks. they get c7s in week 2 now.

  • Platoons are made of 60 recruits.

  • Does one need there grade 12 to enlist?

  • You must meet the minimum educational requirement for your occupation of choice. Have a minimum grade 10 or Secondary III (Quebec) education for combat arms occupations up to a university degree for Direct Entry officer plan.

  • @420Leprikon no. i dont have it either and they told me i can get it there.

  • Comment removed

  • Your local recruiting centre can provide you with this information.

  • What about if you have prior service in the U.S Army going into the Canadian Army? Does anything transfer?

  • Canadian forces chant is "Hoo-ah", correct? There isn't an "r" in there?

  • H.U.A = Heard, Understood, Acknowledged

  • LOL the black Sgt in the beginning talking to the guy about infantry is in my regiment..cool guy!

  • Ive been preparing to join the Reserve's and Im handing in my applications in the next couple days. 2 things im worried about:; first off is the drug test, I was at a party last weekend. They were smoking marijuana in the same room i was in and it might have got in my skin and bloodstream. oh yeah my bad thats the only thing im worried about. ps how big is a platoon?

  • It will vary, but on average it is about 15 to 20 individuals.

  • main force all da way buddy

  • so i assume that u have joined the reserves, i want to aswell, can u just tell me your expirience. what kind of things you did, did you go somewhere, etc, thanks

  • Very educational program also helps this American prepare for his basic training, which will be somewhat similar. Much respect for our Canadian friends and allies!

  • I heard that you can complete some of, or most of your BMQ over the weekends if you join the Reserves, is that true/possible?

  • yup

  • cool

  • I heard someone say that if your still in school you can do training in the summer . How would this work since the summer is 8 weeks and it takes 13 weeks or would it go through school.thanks

  • do you do the same thing for co-op?

  • Can i still join cause i have Diabetes but i'm fit and about to finish high next year 6 more months and boom here i come!!!

  • I was at the recruit office a week ago! It's so strange seeing these people in the same place that I was and am going to be. (Going back to write my aptitude test). Giles and Ryan are my idols.

  • i smoke marijuana and im willing to give it up to join the forces, but what happens if they find some in the piss test?

  • it stays 2 weeks in, or 2 days... just stay clean that long before joining snd then don't ever do it again/

  • just throwing this out there im pretty sure the camras will add drama

  • How similar is this to the US Army Boot camp?

  • I picked up an application form and it says that the CF will check my credit, which made me a bit scared because I don't have a criminal record but honestly my credit is not in good shape due to the fact that for many years I had to help support my family until recently. Now I have slowly started to pay off my debts with the help of the bank and am dedicated in getting rid of my bad debt. Is my willingness and proof that I'm trying to pay off my debt enough to get me into the CF?

  • I'm looking into joining and becoming an infantry officer, what would I have to do to become an officer and what woud I have to do to make sure I get in the infantry? (I come from a long line of infantry officers)

  • Well. You can either go to a university and get a degree and then apply straight out or go through the ROTC - Registered officer training program.

This also extends your stay by like 2 years I think.

Don't quote me bu those are the only 2 options available atm.

  • have just finished test and interview.Medical is in 3weeks im over 40 i know there is a ecg and blood test needed.Does any one know what blood test they are looking for?

  • I never had a blood test during my medical..

  • hahah my husband served with Harding overseas this past Sept 08 - May 09!

  • If I drive like 4 hours down to the recruiting station, will they do my drug test and heath and physical exam then? or will I most likely wait for a call and half to drive down again?

  • how does the drug testing work in regards to applying with the forces

  • it is true that if you dont pass the appitude test you cant not enter in the army because some say that is dont matter if you fail it and others say you have to pass it ???confused

  • What is the average age of recruits now.And what was the oldest recruit to go thru basic.I,m 48 and looking at reinlisting.

  • Do you have to speak french?

  • is swimming something everyone has to do?

  • Hi, i have a question is a full sleeve tattoo allowed in the army? Thanks

  • As long as you got it before you join

  • do u have to know how to swim

not an very good swimer, just asking

  • I was a bad swimmer now I can swim. No you do not have to. you will learn.

  • here my big tip for applying to the CF... if you aren't working out and preparing yourself, start now.. you'll be much better off. second.. if you smoke the devil's lettuce or do any other illicit drugs... stop now... otherwise you'll wind up waiting for a predetermined amount of time, thems the rules and there's no circumventing them!! trust me! i know!

  • hey ty u very much for posting these videos but when is season 2 ???

  • I always wondered when ur on the field training and u have to pee what do u do just pee on the side or something Lol

  • ok this video seems fairly new and i noticed that he said the training is 10 weeks, but ive read in books that its 13 so now im confused which one is it, 10 or 13 weeks??????????

  • It's now 13 weeks. and a week extra for grad

  • So would I need an actual diploma from the school or just something stating that I am homeschooled? Would you accept a homeschool diploma? Thank you for your time.

  • What if you are homeschooled? Can you still join the forces?

  • I saw swimming in the beginning

What would i have to do with swimming

  • Train for it, i heard theyre looking for 2 minute tred and a 100m timed swim

  • Don't worry too much about it. Start swimming it will help you. I was a bad swimmer.

  • how many push up should i be able to do ?

  • there is a pdf file you can download on the site showing you how to train so you are not a "slug" (as i put it) when you get into basic...

ive recently applied but was mislead via online application and decided to just visit my local recruiting center

    cant wait to get started

  • i am gonna join to become a plane pilot

  • are u in air cadets?

  • if I get fit this is what i am doing.

  • Any Canadians know how old this show is?

  • sounds like from the 90's lol

  • appreciate all the help

  • I've been downtown before and spoke with Sgt.Hunter... it's just a question I never asked

    thanks for the reply

  • if you want to be an armoured soldier do you get to pick whether your in an LAV or Leopard tank?

  • When I was in an armored reserve unit it all depended on what courses you were able to get yourself into.

  • If i wanted to become an officer how long would i have to go to military college for?

  • are their only certain jobs available or can anyone apply for Infantry/Courier? How does the whole job application system work?

  • It says 10 weeks but everyone I talk to and from what I read its 13. What is 10 oe 13?

  • hey I just finished my CFAT and am doing my med/interview in one day within a week, I was just wondering how long after that will it take to get to basic training,I went for reg force and went for infantry, thanks

  • ah man i wanna join i mean im goin to join but man i know im gonna be extremely nervous lol my closest friend is in it and he said he was really nervous at first but u get used to it

  • nothing wrong with being nervous, i start basic next week

  • Basic is rather nerve racking but you just have to focus on what you're doing, not the nervousness. Anyone can get through it with the right frame of mind but it's a bit of a shock going from civi side.

  • Is it normal to feel extremely nervous before going into basic training?

  • Of course it is. I was scared out of my mind going into it. It's a very rough experience and it's like nothing you'll experience civi side. It's going to test you mentally and physically so what's not to be nervous about. You just have to try to ensure it doesn't affect your performance, do the best you can and focus on what you're doing, not the nervousness. Good luck

  • ive read in one place that your fitness level is tested during the recruiting process and ive also read that its not tested as part of the selection process but tested early into your training, so im just wondering when it is tested?

  • After BMQ and SQC am i deployed like *SNAP*

  • i am wondering how long it can take to get approved to go to BMQ?

  • i thought after the recruiting station they give you a flight on a helicopter to Saint Jeaune sur richlieu lol

  • I wanna join the canadian forces.same with adam hudson i myself am from north bay ontario i. had one of my friends tell me if i wanna be an infantry soldier i have to go to the canadian forces recruiting center when your 15 then goverment will pay for your university then you to bmq if you past then you go sqt then afterwards your in. Ive been inspired to enlist as an ifantry soldier.I need discipline in life because i dont achieve alot things i always give up but i wanna serve my country.

  • You have to be at least 16 years old and have parents permission to join a reserve unit, 17 to join the regular force military. The military does have programs for assistance with schooling but I don't know the specifics.

Everyone starts out as a recruit for BMQ. Once you're out of BMQ you're a private. Promotion to corporal is generally given after 2 years of good service. Additional promotions require you take leadership courses and have time served.

Good luck if you continue to try.

  • greetings from the usa your ally since 1917 keep up the good work canada

  • is it even possible for me to join i wanna be able to put my mechanic skills further i want to know if i can join or not im deaf about 50% still need a hearing aid i can lip read good... i want to do combat engineering more then mechanics but if i cant do that deffenly mechanics so anybody who knows about this can u reply to me

  • Does the canadian military have any paratroopers, cuzi heard that the fighting praticias and another remigment were paratroopers, but i also heard that they were infantry, so is there a canadian airbourne?

  • Yeah there's a Canadian Airborne. There used to be a separate Airborne regiment but as of 1995 it was disbanded. Now each battalion keeps a parachute company attached to it. They are in the 3rd battalions of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCRs) and the Royal 22e Régiment (The Van Doos)

  • can you fail bmq? can you get kicked out? and if yes, for what?

  • Yeah you can, consistently failing will get you out, though they are really good about re-training and giving second chances. Naturally any kind of misconduct will get you out, like excessive drinking, underage drinking, getting in fights. I'm sure there are many other reasons a person wouldn't make it through BMQ but I can't list all of them =P

  • Im considering Joining the Militia forces what will I be doing and will I go to afghanastan?

  • What you're doing depends on what unit you go into. Basic training is the same for everyone which you can do over a summer if you're a student, or on weekends during the non summer months. After basic then you go into your specific trades training. You CAN go to Afghanistan but reservists volunteer to go over. The only time you'd be required to go somewhere is if the reserves are "Called Up" Which only happens in a formal wartime situation.

  • Thanks for the info. I was a little confused at first how it worked. My hats off to your brave men and women of the CF.

  • So, the Canadian Military have combined all the branches into one solid Military force instead of navy, air force and so forth?

  • Wow.. I'm in the U.S. Army and we are not allowed to wear our covers or berets in doors. But, I enjoys learning how the CF's train.Very instructive.

  • if you apply for the ncm-sep entry are you considered reg or reserve while in school?

  • Do the BMQ courses run all throughout the year, or are they just for the summer/fall months? Going for my aptitude test next month, I'd just like an idea how long it might be until I go to basic.

  • Here I come to BMQ October 27th :D

I'll be the short haired caucasian male :)

  • The one in green?

  • Very good series! I like seeing the differences and similarities between the American and Canadian basic training. Canada is a wonderful country!

  • Ok, so my friend was right. thanks.

  • joining the reserves was one of the best decisions ive made

  • Can someone tell me how being in the Reserves will help me in the Canadian Forces?

  • Keep in mind folks, this was shot in 2006. Some things have changed. The length of the course for one. :^)

But it still gives you a good idea of what it'll be like.

  • Yep, the BMQ time is now officially 14 weeks (says 13 but that includes week 0) and there are talks of it changing to 10 weeks total. This can help get general information and it tells you most of what you'll do but it "will" be a little different.

  • im lookin forward to passing the course!

  • Thanks for posting this, finally about to be merit listed and going into the Reg. Force Infantry, thanks to this I can get an insight to what exactly I'll be doing in BMQ.

Very much looking forward to it :)

  • im goin there soon.
