Ahhh, I just turned eighteen last year, and i'm going into the recruitment center when my family moves back to Petawawa this summer. I've been an Army Brat all my life but i'm so nervous about basic, aha.
HAHAHA I laugh at the people who are getting scared while being yelled at. I was in Army Cadets for 4 years, I am used to it. All through Basic I will be laughing lolololololol.
I am 32 and an industrial electrician I have also compleeted my millwright training and am ready to sit that test. I would not be able to keep up with this younger crew, Is there something slower pace like a pre prep camp? or do we all get dumped in the fire pit?

@imnoobish Participating in basic training is available to those applying to the CF. For more information, please contact your local recruiting office.
@ShadowDeathBl1tz The Basic Up videos are in sequences. The titles will go as follows: Basic Up: Season 1, Episode 1, 1/4, then the same title finishing in 2/4, then 3/4, etc. This particular episode has 4 parts.
@chriss2112 There are different minimum performance objectives based on age and gender for the complete list please visit our web site or contact your local recruiting office.
@NineBeforeEight i'm applying for co-op next school year too..which province are you in? You're doing your CFAT already?.. i cant apply until septemberO_o
@memyselfandcorpse2 During the application process, our recruiting medical personnel will assess your medical situation. A complete medical examination is necessary when assessing medical fitness for the CF. This is also important when restrictions may limit the career choices being considered.
If you have specific medical questions you should contact the recruiting centre nearest you and ask to speak with a member of the medical staff directly.
@CanadianArmyNews Specific medical standards are neither published on our site nor provided to applicants since they refer to specific criteria only CF health care professionals are trained to utilize. Once you submit an application our recruiting medical personnel will conduct a medical exam.
Can someone please answer my question? The Military always comes down to my school and passes out info about the Army, and I asked them some questions but gave me unclear answers. I just wanted to know, could I be a Field Artillery soldier, but still stay in Canada? or at least in somewhere not engaged in combat?
If you join as a Reservist they cant deploy you, if you dont want to; if you join as a Reg force soldier, guess what, you are now part of the army and once your training is completed you might or might not have to deploy depending of the Operationnal requirements
@DR4EVUR If you are going to serve your country they will most likely send you over seas "at some point" im not saying if you sign up your leaving its not like that its going to take quite a while.
If you would like to do some kind of part time artillery then you would have to go to your local recruit centre and talk with an officer and sign up for a part time job " part time only requires you to be part of the military when they really need you"
@DR4EVUR thatss umm a wierd question u get called to do combat when they need it. If there is never a need for you which is really unlikely then yes u wouldn;t be in combat. U would probably get shipped out of canada though.
@DR4EVUR yes you can but it would require to to enlist in the reserves and not the regular forces. if you are a reservist you do not have to leave the country unless you volunteer
When i join the reserves because im 16 right now, would i go through something like this? and when i do reg force when i graduate from high school would i have to do this as well?
Sort of. Depending on where you live you usually attend multiple weekends each week month though out the year with your PRes unit at their amoury and depending on your regiment you might have to go away on summer course before you join your regiment.
How old is this?, Basic is not 10 weeks long, its 14 in total and its not at fort st, jean....its in the megaplex on the other side of the city.....RMC is in the Fort.
You must meet the minimum educational requirement for your occupation of choice. Have a minimum grade 10 or Secondary III (Quebec) education for combat arms occupations up to a university degree for Direct Entry officer plan.
Ive been preparing to join the Reserve's and Im handing in my applications in the next couple days. 2 things im worried about:; first off is the drug test, I was at a party last weekend. They were smoking marijuana in the same room i was in and it might have got in my skin and bloodstream. oh yeah my bad thats the only thing im worried about. ps how big is a platoon?
so i assume that u have joined the reserves, i want to aswell, can u just tell me your expirience. what kind of things you did, did you go somewhere, etc, thanks
Very educational program also helps this American prepare for his basic training, which will be somewhat similar. Much respect for our Canadian friends and allies!
I heard someone say that if your still in school you can do training in the summer . How would this work since the summer is 8 weeks and it takes 13 weeks or would it go through school.thanks
I was at the recruit office a week ago! It's so strange seeing these people in the same place that I was and am going to be. (Going back to write my aptitude test). Giles and Ryan are my idols.
I picked up an application form and it says that the CF will check my credit, which made me a bit scared because I don't have a criminal record but honestly my credit is not in good shape due to the fact that for many years I had to help support my family until recently. Now I have slowly started to pay off my debts with the help of the bank and am dedicated in getting rid of my bad debt. Is my willingness and proof that I'm trying to pay off my debt enough to get me into the CF?
I'm looking into joining and becoming an infantry officer, what would I have to do to become an officer and what woud I have to do to make sure I get in the infantry? (I come from a long line of infantry officers)
have just finished test and interview.Medical is in 3weeks im over 40 i know there is a ecg and blood test needed.Does any one know what blood test they are looking for?
If I drive like 4 hours down to the recruiting station, will they do my drug test and heath and physical exam then? or will I most likely wait for a call and half to drive down again?
it is true that if you dont pass the appitude test you cant not enter in the army because some say that is dont matter if you fail it and others say you have to pass it ???confused
here my big tip for applying to the CF... if you aren't working out and preparing yourself, start now.. you'll be much better off. second.. if you smoke the devil's lettuce or do any other illicit drugs... stop now... otherwise you'll wind up waiting for a predetermined amount of time, thems the rules and there's no circumventing them!! trust me! i know!

hey I just finished my CFAT and am doing my med/interview in one day within a week, I was just wondering how long after that will it take to get to basic training,I went for reg force and went for infantry, thanks
ah man i wanna join i mean im goin to join but man i know im gonna be extremely nervous lol my closest friend is in it and he said he was really nervous at first but u get used to it

ive read in one place that your fitness level is tested during the recruiting process and ive also read that its not tested as part of the selection process but tested early into your training, so im just wondering when it is tested?
I wanna join the canadian forces.same with adam hudson i myself am from north bay ontario i. had one of my friends tell me if i wanna be an infantry soldier i have to go to the canadian forces recruiting center when your 15 then goverment will pay for your university then you to bmq if you past then you go sqt then afterwards your in. Ive been inspired to enlist as an ifantry soldier.I need discipline in life because i dont achieve alot things i always give up but i wanna serve my country.
You have to be at least 16 years old and have parents permission to join a reserve unit, 17 to join the regular force military. The military does have programs for assistance with schooling but I don't know the specifics.
Everyone starts out as a recruit for BMQ. Once you're out of BMQ you're a private. Promotion to corporal is generally given after 2 years of good service. Additional promotions require you take leadership courses and have time served.
is it even possible for me to join i wanna be able to put my mechanic skills further i want to know if i can join or not im deaf about 50% still need a hearing aid i can lip read good... i want to do combat engineering more then mechanics but if i cant do that deffenly mechanics so anybody who knows about this can u reply to me
Does the canadian military have any paratroopers, cuzi heard that the fighting praticias and another remigment were paratroopers, but i also heard that they were infantry, so is there a canadian airbourne?
Yeah there's a Canadian Airborne. There used to be a separate Airborne regiment but as of 1995 it was disbanded. Now each battalion keeps a parachute company attached to it. They are in the 3rd battalions of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCRs) and the Royal 22e Régiment (The Van Doos)
Yeah you can, consistently failing will get you out, though they are really good about re-training and giving second chances. Naturally any kind of misconduct will get you out, like excessive drinking, underage drinking, getting in fights. I'm sure there are many other reasons a person wouldn't make it through BMQ but I can't list all of them =P
What you're doing depends on what unit you go into. Basic training is the same for everyone which you can do over a summer if you're a student, or on weekends during the non summer months. After basic then you go into your specific trades training. You CAN go to Afghanistan but reservists volunteer to go over. The only time you'd be required to go somewhere is if the reserves are "Called Up" Which only happens in a formal wartime situation.
Do the BMQ courses run all throughout the year, or are they just for the summer/fall months? Going for my aptitude test next month, I'd just like an idea how long it might be until I go to basic.
Yep, the BMQ time is now officially 14 weeks (says 13 but that includes week 0) and there are talks of it changing to 10 weeks total. This can help get general information and it tells you most of what you'll do but it "will" be a little different.
Thanks for posting this, finally about to be merit listed and going into the Reg. Force Infantry, thanks to this I can get an insight to what exactly I'll be doing in BMQ.
Im moving to Canada soon, but i live in England and have different education levels. Can i still join?

ive read in one place that your fitness level is tested during the recruiting process and ive also read that its not tested as part of the selection process but tested early into your training, so im just wondering when it is tested?

I wanna join the canadian forces.same with adam hudson i myself am from north bay ontario i. had one of my friends tell me if i wanna be an infantry soldier i have to go to the canadian forces recruiting center when your 15 then goverment will pay for your university then you to bmq if you past then you go sqt then afterwards your in. Ive been inspired to enlist as an ifantry soldier.I need discipline in life because i dont achieve alot things i always give up but i wanna serve my country.
ShadowDeathBl1tz 3 years ago
You have to be at least 16 years old and have parents permission to join a reserve unit, 17 to join the regular force military. The military does have programs for assistance with schooling but I don't know the specifics.
Everyone starts out as a recruit for BMQ. Once you're out of BMQ you're a private. Promotion to corporal is generally given after 2 years of good service. Additional promotions require you take leadership courses and have time served.
Good luck if you continue to try.

Does the canadian military have any paratroopers, cuzi heard that the fighting praticias and another remigment were paratroopers, but i also heard that they were infantry, so is there a canadian airbourne?
hockey6467 3 years ago
Yeah there's a Canadian Airborne. There used to be a separate Airborne regiment but as of 1995 it was disbanded. Now each battalion keeps a parachute company attached to it. They are in the 3rd battalions of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCRs) and the Royal 22e Régiment (The Van Doos)

can you fail bmq? can you get kicked out? and if yes, for what?
sjbhfajkdfb 3 years ago
Yeah you can, consistently failing will get you out, though they are really good about re-training and giving second chances. Naturally any kind of misconduct will get you out, like excessive drinking, underage drinking, getting in fights. I'm sure there are many other reasons a person wouldn't make it through BMQ but I can't list all of them =P

Im considering Joining the Militia forces what will I be doing and will I go to afghanastan?
leafsfan9917 3 years ago
What you're doing depends on what unit you go into. Basic training is the same for everyone which you can do over a summer if you're a student, or on weekends during the non summer months. After basic then you go into your specific trades training. You CAN go to Afghanistan but reservists volunteer to go over. The only time you'd be required to go somewhere is if the reserves are "Called Up" Which only happens in a formal wartime situation.

Thanks for the info. I was a little confused at first how it worked. My hats off to your brave men and women of the CF.

So, the Canadian Military have combined all the branches into one solid Military force instead of navy, air force and so forth?
RGMerkel 3 years ago
Wow.. I'm in the U.S. Army and we are not allowed to wear our covers or berets in doors. But, I enjoys learning how the CF's train.Very instructive.

if you apply for the ncm-sep entry are you considered reg or reserve while in school?
xxsikpunkxx 3 years ago
Do the BMQ courses run all throughout the year, or are they just for the summer/fall months? Going for my aptitude test next month, I'd just like an idea how long it might be until I go to basic.

joining the reserves was one of the best decisions ive made
fuoifg86 3 years ago
Can someone tell me how being in the Reserves will help me in the Canadian Forces?
TheDeviilsBrigade 3 years ago
Keep in mind folks, this was shot in 2006. Some things have changed. The length of the course for one. :^)
But it still gives you a good idea of what it'll be like.
Mattman4698 3 years ago
Yep, the BMQ time is now officially 14 weeks (says 13 but that includes week 0) and there are talks of it changing to 10 weeks total. This can help get general information and it tells you most of what you'll do but it "will" be a little different.

im lookin forward to passing the course!
