  • I'm Nicely, Nicely in our high school production of this play. Time to become a tenor 1.

  • I was in this in my high school play I was the blind man and gambler who said "were sick of this"

  • I'm got Nicely Nicely in my High School Musical...

    Challenge Accepted.

  • I can't believe no one mentioned the Sesame Street parody of this song, "Can Read":

'I'm reading this book here about a pioneer

who rode his horse all over the old frontier

    can read, can read

a book, something you can read

a good book is all you need

    and you can read'

  • just got chosen to play Rusty Charlie in my high schools 50th musical: Guys and Dolls!! WOOHOO!!

  • @Tehsoupman12 Congrats. This is kinda ironic ... my theatre company is also doing Guys & Dolls, but I'm playing Nicely (I'm a 14 year old girl) and my 10 year old brother is playing Rusty Charlie. HA!

  • @skala9801 Nice! haha

  • song starts at 1:15

  • This track make me happy, I put a remix of this in my channel, Big Scoob "Can Du"...

  • By the way this whole beginning scene is called "Runyonland" :)

  • This film never really worked. I think it was a combination of miscasting and various songs being dropped from the Broadway score. By rights the film should be a winner. As it is, it's only 'so so'.

  • @Dianaemanuel - Agreed. One regret I have is that I never got to see (either because I was too young or I was too poor) the original Broadway versions of classics like "G&D." I have a DVD of the original cast recording, which I treasure, and which I prefer much more to this version (even though I like it enough). It's too bad they can't film the Broadway productions and show them at a later time, after their run is over.

  • Should've gotten Gene Kelly as Sky.

  • I love Fedoras and I was the first to wear them in my school and then a bunch of ppl copied me and the only caps that don't look gay r Yankee caps cuz I can't stand caps

  • I played Nicely-Nicely (the big guy in the middle ;) and this song holds so many memories for me. I love it! Thanks for posting it!

  • @Ace5846 are you really THE Nicely-Nicely from the movie with Sinatra and Brando? If so, I think that is awesome. I have seen this film many times and love it every time.

  • @strawbaby1 Nicely-Nicely from the movie was played by Stubby Kaye. He died in 97. He was also Marvin Acme from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I saw a high school production of this play years back. Fugue for Tinhorns has still got to be one of the most organized songs ever.

  • GE-NI-OUS!! best ever. i love old musicals!

  • This song makes my heart pitter patter...haha. REALLY.

  • Well, with 'Valentine opening at 5 to 9 we have to say there is a 70% chance 'Valentine won it....ok - reading too much into it of course, but oh, what a great tune and musical-film.

  • Love it.

  • "Fugue for Tinhorns" :)

  • We sang this song in our choir, such an awesome song!!!!

  • My school recently did this. Only one of these roles was played by a male.

  • this shud be remade

  • @badburns1992 "shud" ???

  • My school is doing this play on Friday. In this scene I'm playing one of the females that pick pockets the man. The guys we have singing this song have got it sounding amazing.

  • Original, real rap!

  • were doing this play may, 11 im so excited :D

  • Can you imagine the concentration it takes to sing this without screwing up your part? Brilliant.

  • 8 people didn't pick the right horse.

  • My friend and I used to start singing this, randomly, back in HS -- our non- theatre friends would just look at us like we were insane. hahaha

    good times...

  • haha i was the wife of the guy who got pick pocketed the first time and our pick pocket could NEVER get it right and we would end up having to walk offstage and he wouldn't have the pocket watch and it was all just awkward....

  • My high school is doing this musical next year. i'm so excited to audition ^-^

  • that pocket watch really made the rounds.

  • the high school was doing this play and they showed it to little kids XD it had bad words

  • @eeveelover1121 that's nothing. my school was doing a performance of "the lottery" (worst written play in history) in case you don't know, we have to stone someone at the end. we got in this big circle and were running around the girl chanting in gaelic throwing "stones" at her while she screamed until she "died" ... there were three 8 year-olds in the audience... who cried

  • Its Fugue for Tinhorns

  • the song is called FUGUE FOR TINHORNS

  • Were doing this play at my school and im helping to build the set. Just some quick research!

  • just learned to day, i auditioned for the play, and im Nathan!

  • doing this as our musical this year. it's EXCELLENT.

    i love this song :)

  • @Skyelight0 me to, im rusty charlie

  • i didnt know they were all talking about a horse. woops.

  • It is called FUGUE FOR MOTHERFUCKING TINHORNS. Please get it right. Minus the "motherfucking", of course.

  • definition of naff

  • i got the part of benny! considering im a girl, is that a bad thing...?

  • @jedofdoom nah, i got cast as Nicely and i'm a girl. :P

  • I was in a production of this play in October.

    It's really fun.

  • I got the roll of the hot box girl(: I loved it-3

  • I got sky masterson in my school :D

  • @jwa1151 I want to get Sky for my school, any advice? Thanks in advance!

  • @mike93345 Just do the best you can, practice the audition songs a few times if you can, and for the dancing just concentrate on the steps givin to you and practice those for as long as you can good luck

  • @jwa1151 thanks :), but do you have any tips on the character itself, like what exactly is he feeling in the song "I've never been in love before"? (the audition song for Sky at my school) Is he happy that he's in love? Shocked that he actually fell in love? Or embarrassed?

  • @mike93345 Sky is the character who doesnt believe in love, and the fact that he fell in love with Sarah (a kind of uptight, christian woman) he is extremly shocked. So when you sing Ive never been in love before sing it with some confusion but at the same time sing it with some joy, the only thing the Sky is embarresed about is his real name :D

  • @jwa1151

Glad you ran into this Frank Loesser classic. The name is spelled Skye, and in the original cast he was played by Robert Alda -- Alan's father.

    Cheers.

  • Those guys sure are a bunch of tinhorns, all right...

  • OMFG the play was a huge success we did it 3 nights in a row and everyone loved it

  • It is sooooo funny when everyone's running and he's just calmly walking!

  • Which one is Benny Southstreet?

  • @brawlerdude93 the one in the blue suit on the right

  • What's awesome about this is that my school is actually gonna do a performance for this movie :D hope we nail it

  • @idkaname1000 So is mine! Im excited!

  • I can imagine Paul Rever, Valentine, and Epitaph losing.

  • who ended up winning that race?

  • @siriusandco - Beetlebaum! (see Spike Jones, "William Tell Overture")

  • @siriusandco VALENTINE WON THE RACE... he's 5/9!!

  • @siriusandco none of them! (i bet)

  • @siriusandco rusty which = the horse which name starts with e :)

  • @siriusandco Valetine

  • @siriusandco snowball, the other horse

  • @siriusandco Epitaph. Because I'm Rusty Charlie.

  • oh wow!Our set in Our school production Guys and Dolls Looked exactly like that!!!! :D

  • fag!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lillollys.....Hey asshole... is that word REALLY necessary... why not just say NIGGER and DAGO then? you piece of SHIT.. burn in HELL!!!!!

  • I'm playing Bennie South Street :L And I'm a girl :P I'm really excited about it :D

  • this musicial is awesome my school did this show this year it was so much fun

  • im playing nicely nice johnson haha

  • @YOUNGTALENT2010 thats the part i want

  • A classic. One of the all time great numbers

  • i'm trying out for this play next week! I'm so excited. It will be my first school preformance!

  • @yankeesatit HEY ME TOO, well not next week but in 2 months! =D

  • love this movie!!!!! every action is done so perfectly! smiles from Pakistan! :)))

  • I love this movie and this musical. We're doing it as our spring production this year and I'm auditioning for Adelaide. This is my fave musical along with Music Man and A Funny Thing Happened...Forum.

  • As good as this version is, I think the original soundtrack version is better. Could someone put that on YT as well?

  • @WSenator1

Hey Dumbtard this is the original!

  • @killion672 - This YT clip is from the film version. It came FIVE YEARS after the beginning of the original Broadway version was mounted. The three gentlemen featured in the clip are from the Broadway show, but the original starred Robert Alda (Alan's father) as Sky Masterson. So THIS AIN'T THE ORIGINAL. And before you call a person of good will an insulting name, use whatever brain you have and do some research, okay?

  • Ah, the best opening to a show ever written. Hell, it's just the best show ever written: not a weak number in it.

  • Oh, the cars.

The blue car with the white top, at :18.........I want it.

    Can anyone identify it ?

  • @MJLatora MJ: '56 Mercury hardtop, probably a Monterrey. Model years debuted in August and September back then, for the coming year. Would have been brand-new when the movie was being filmed

  • Great number...I wonder if they got it right on the first try?

  • @bigallovepal No, I was there and it was take 7.

  • we did this play my sr. year of hs ... good memories... [=

  • @11polkadot1 - I'm doing this year for my senior year too. I'm very excited (:

  • such a clever song. perfect

  • Someone should upload the oldest established floating crap game and the guys and dolls musical number scenes.

  • oh and the scene where frank sings about adelaide "takin a chance on him"

  • Oh my God, I love this musical, and this song is great!

  • yaay for trios they have to be my favorite esspecially oldies lol

  • LOL.

  • the guy crossing the street absorbed in his paper while almost getting killed is a dead ringer for today's mindless-zombie youths who routinely walk around with their heads down, ignoring their surroundings to their peril.

Its almost as if they want to be perceived as being so socially connected they don't need to relate to others in real time

  • i love this song, in high school my chorus did guys and dolls as our brodway medley peice.

  • No, Fugue for Three Tinhorns.

  • dude on the right look like Rob Scheinder (sic)

  • The hell with all the clips, just post the damn movie.

  • I love this musical and saw it at a High School. It was their very first Musical because the school just opened last Fall. I think they did well. Check it out on my channel

  • Im doing a school play on Guys & Dolls Jr.

    :)

  • @DeniiRocks whoop dee do aren't you special

  • BTW, just as a side note, the song is called "Fugue for Tinhorn"

And yes its a great song.

  • I love that movie. It's one of my absolute faves. A lot of the older musicals are a lot better than the old ones. The only two newer musicals that I like is RENT and Spamalot.

  • @kewlkat8208 I ment the newer ones are worse.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • @0:55 did he fucking punch that guy out with a paper cup?

  • @cat2cube - Yep.

  • Paul Revere all the way

  • Nicely done!

  • @chakwong Haha, I get it...

  • Rusty sounds like Sinatra

  • I just finished watching this in music...>.>

  • My little brother is Rusty Charlie and he is the best

  • Paul Revere

  • southsteert

  • I get confused with Benny's last name is it southwest or southstreet?

  • Southstreet

  • @DaBearFan715 southstreet

  • I just saw this play with my Drama Club. I love it. :D

  • in chorus we are doinq this play nd we are learning all the songz :)) but im not in da play :((

  • lol i was nicely nicely johnson kinda ironic since i was 13 and 65 pounds and stuby k is well you know but i love him anyway

  • who are the girls who nicked his watch?... ive never seen the musical but we're doing it at our school this year and im choreographing most of the dances and song and thigs... if anyones got advice or jus anything to help would be very useful!!!!

  • well good luck! and well done you for getting nathan! thank you i have watch the movie now and it helped ALOT! xx

  • But don't try to be Sinatra; you'll hurt yourself and look like a fool. Be Nathan and you'll be fine

  • 7855waldo seriously person if you're gonna criticize ATLEAST get your facts right! loser.

  • i'm doing this at my school... i've been cast as sarah and i'm SO excited!!

  • @jamieyarmoff me too!!! any tips??

  • OMG I LOVE THIS MUSICAL!!

we did this in out skool

nd i got tha part of Adelaides dancers

    it was soo much FUN!!

  • we did this at our school, even tohugh i got a small part it is so much fun!

  • i luv the musical

  • No one ever did it better.

  • 7855waldo: Your film knowledge is sadly lacking. The movie was shot indoors, on a sound stage and the look is exactly what was wanted...almost like a comic-book. You might do a little research before burdening us with your uninformed opinions. Oh, and some of us think Brando was quite good in the role.

  • Yes. All two of you.

  • @stevenpgross dang....harsh much? waldo may be rude and uninformed but that doesn't mean u hav to "burden us" with ur rudeness too! cripes!

  • @stevenpgross didnt read the comment this is in response to but whoeve thinks brando was not goof in this role is lacking in more then film knowledge...Marlon Brando was so amazing..the best Sky Masterson I have ever seen and I have seen countless productions of this....he can not be topped

  • @stevenpgross Brando was amazing....in everything period. eh...perhaps not so great in the teahouse of the august moon but we will forgive him for this

  • @stevenpgross Well put and right on the nose!!

  • @stevenpgross Exactly. A mythical "New York" was created and it was PERFECT. A brilliant film.

  • @7855waldo wow dude chill out

  • I saw this on Broadway!! And we performed it at my school. I love Guys and Dolls. And Frank Sinatra! ;D

  • This was my favorite song in the play

  • The Fugue For Tinhorns.

  • Comment removed

  • My middle school did this. Was pretty goood.

  • it is called the Tinhorn Fugue

  • No. Fugue for Tinhorns.

  • Canon for Tinhorns, perhaps?

haha yes i know, how finicky...

  • We're watching this in Chorus.

  • you know its called Fugue For Tin horns right?

  • STUBBY KAYE IS GOD!!

  • Comment removed

  • i work there and the reviews were horrible. i think the show is better than the critics point of view. i doubt the show will last a yr.

  • we are doing this show in school,,auditions are next week :/ im scared i got a main part last year hopefully i can this year!! Im well Desperate for one i love Performing Arts x

  • Wow, this late in the year? When is it being performed?

  • We Are Performing It At Christmas But We Start Rehearsals Next Week So That We're All Ready :D

  • That's pretty cool. If you have all summer to work on your part then I'm sure it'll be one hell of a show :)

  • Yeah last year i was a main role in Disco Inferno and it was an amazing show,,but now wer not doing Guys & Dolls because its touring the UK so we cant have the performing rights!! :( Never mind x

  • we're doing this show! it's so much fun!
