@Tehsoupman12 Congrats. This is kinda ironic ... my theatre company is also doing Guys & Dolls, but I'm playing Nicely (I'm a 14 year old girl) and my 10 year old brother is playing Rusty Charlie. HA!
This film never really worked. I think it was a combination of miscasting and various songs being dropped from the Broadway score. By rights the film should be a winner. As it is, it's only 'so so'.
@Dianaemanuel - Agreed. One regret I have is that I never got to see (either because I was too young or I was too poor) the original Broadway versions of classics like "G&D." I have a DVD of the original cast recording, which I treasure, and which I prefer much more to this version (even though I like it enough). It's too bad they can't film the Broadway productions and show them at a later time, after their run is over.
I love Fedoras and I was the first to wear them in my school and then a bunch of ppl copied me and the only caps that don't look gay r Yankee caps cuz I can't stand caps
@Ace5846 are you really THE Nicely-Nicely from the movie with Sinatra and Brando? If so, I think that is awesome. I have seen this film many times and love it every time.
@strawbaby1 Nicely-Nicely from the movie was played by Stubby Kaye. He died in 97. He was also Marvin Acme from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I saw a high school production of this play years back. Fugue for Tinhorns has still got to be one of the most organized songs ever.
Well, with 'Valentine opening at 5 to 9 we have to say there is a 70% chance 'Valentine won it....ok - reading too much into it of course, but oh, what a great tune and musical-film.
My school is doing this play on Friday. In this scene I'm playing one of the females that pick pockets the man. The guys we have singing this song have got it sounding amazing.
haha i was the wife of the guy who got pick pocketed the first time and our pick pocket could NEVER get it right and we would end up having to walk offstage and he wouldn't have the pocket watch and it was all just awkward....
@eeveelover1121 that's nothing. my school was doing a performance of "the lottery" (worst written play in history) in case you don't know, we have to stone someone at the end. we got in this big circle and were running around the girl chanting in gaelic throwing "stones" at her while she screamed until she "died" ... there were three 8 year-olds in the audience... who cried
@mike93345 Just do the best you can, practice the audition songs a few times if you can, and for the dancing just concentrate on the steps givin to you and practice those for as long as you can good luck
@jwa1151 thanks :), but do you have any tips on the character itself, like what exactly is he feeling in the song "I've never been in love before"? (the audition song for Sky at my school) Is he happy that he's in love? Shocked that he actually fell in love? Or embarrassed?
@mike93345 Sky is the character who doesnt believe in love, and the fact that he fell in love with Sarah (a kind of uptight, christian woman) he is extremly shocked. So when you sing Ive never been in love before sing it with some confusion but at the same time sing it with some joy, the only thing the Sky is embarresed about is his real name :D

@killion672 - This YT clip is from the film version. It came FIVE YEARS after the beginning of the original Broadway version was mounted. The three gentlemen featured in the clip are from the Broadway show, but the original starred Robert Alda (Alan's father) as Sky Masterson. So THIS AIN'T THE ORIGINAL. And before you call a person of good will an insulting name, use whatever brain you have and do some research, okay?
