Ok I can understand how stressful homework can be honestly. Personally I do think a little homework is nessisary for the learning process, and for teachers to insure their students are keeping up with the material. However, I dont support exessive amounts of homework and unnessisarly long assignments. I believe that no report should be more thatn 3-5 pages long, and that we should be able to choose our topic. Anything longer than that is indeed pointless.
There is no evidence supporting the idea that homework is helpful to students in any major way. As I tell my students, do not just believe me. Look it up for yourselves.

I teach science. I do not give homework. My students do quite well without homework. I teach them how to ask questions and think for themselves. I tell my students not to just believe what I say but to look it up for themselves. I have students that look into ideas and topics from class on their own time without me telling them to do so.
@MissThinkabunch I applaud you! I love your promotion of free thought, you are truly the epitome of what teachers should be like. If other teachers followed your example, school would be a great place to learn.
Although I want to clarify, I'm not completely against the idea of homework. It is handy to some students for reinforcement of material that's learned in class. However, there is a fine line between reinforcement and just too much stressful work.
I think that it's long enough being at college 9am until 4pm, if i am going to do coursework, I would rather do it DURING those hours and ONLY on days that i'm actually AT COLLEGE!
College assignments are fun, but get rid of the unnecessary "deadlines" they are unneeded + very, very, VERY pointless!

i know wat u mean, but you actually get less homework the older you get, but my friends and i hav had enuff homework in just 3 periods to keep us all up until midnite
30 minutes of homework per night = helpful
2 hours or more homework per night = harmful
