delete your video from youtube, you dont open cameraes like these unless you are a professional or very skilled person. DONT open cameras on your kitchentable!!!
WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! When removing the back of the gopro be VERY VERY careful as that golden color membrane circuit and red wire leading to back tear VERY easily. and I mean VERY easily!!!! I did it on mine and I was being very careful. Your camera will still work BUT you will never be able to use the piggy back screen if you damage this membrane circuit. NOBODY MENTIONS THIS! Also...AVOID heat guns!!! can warp shaft threads and prevent focus of new lense! use a hair drier and w/CARE!
@chasescannell The new lens is longer than the original and will not fit in the waterproof case.
There are some third party kits to modify the housing too, but I've never tried it. Otherwise you can just mount your original lens at times when you need the case on.
i scratched my lense and want the original replacement and gopro does not offer them... its stupid as hell, if you sell a product you should offer replacement parts
ya too bad all of yalls replacements lenses are as much as just buying a used gopro off of ebay/craigslist. it costs what $18 to get these lenses, wtf quit selling them for $100, i would rather just buyu another camera and not have to do any work...
Look for "GoPro Flattened" and see how to get very good flat, rectilinear perspective from existing 720p and 1080p (and even 960p or 5 MP time-lapse frames) using Photoshop.
wish I knew this before... I tightened the lens too far and damaged the sensor. This portion of your changing lens was the MOST important and you left it out of your instruction, showing how it's done.
@fotosafariclub I'm really sorry to hear that. I didn't even know that the cameras mount was threaded all the way down to the sensor, so I didn't know it was possible to do that. I will make a note about in the movie.
@fotosafariclub Yep, I used the live feed to to set the fokus correct. Otherwise you can turn it in fixed steps (eg 45 degrees) and take a photo at every step. Then look at the photos and turn it back the amount of steps to where the focus was best.
I didn't use any loctite or anything when mounting the new lens, because I figured that I maybe wan't to change back to the original lens from time to time (eg use it under water).
@NikLagua I don't know where you can buy an original replacement lens. Have you asked Gopro if they sell any spare parts? I got my replacement lens from optics-online Maybe the also have some other lenses that is more like the original one. I have also seen some lenskits for Gopros on Ebay.
@1GRRRR It's mounted with a screw (M12?) thread. There is Loctite or something on the threads. I used my heat gun, with a flat pipe, so I could control the warm air stream to only warm the lens and not the electronic circuits etc in the camera. Maybe one can cover parts of the camera with aluminum foil or something to avoid heat, just make sure not to short circuit anything.
It actually takes some force to remove it the first time, but when the Loctite (or equivalent) is gone it's much easier.
can you make a tutorial on how you used the heatgun to remove the lense?? pleaseeee

Nice video.
Tried to change lens and didn't work.
How far you screw the lens in... do you see a live feed on TV to see when it's sharp and then use something to cement the lens to that spot?
Anyway, my old lens don't work anymore.... brurry.
So, am looking for someone to fix this for me. I have the Sunex lens.
Yeah, I'll pay for it.
