  • hey nice playing girl! :D and you have nice bass! Cheers!

  • nice playing keep up the good work

  • I did not even notice that you had a porcupine tree song up. I only heard of them recently and have only heard a few songs (the drummer in my band likes them), but i really like their stuff that i have heard.

  • Porcupine tree is a amazing bad good job in this cover congratulations.

  • @choppercrue lol! I agree, Porcupine Tree IS an amazing band, and this IS a bad cover! BUT, I love this band so much, & respect Colin's bass playing, had to at least try to learn it! :) So props for trying to learn it, & a kick in the butt for posting it & disrespecting the bassist's talent in Porcupine Tree.

  • so youve got my bass and and like the bands i like. lol.

  • hey whats up!

i have a video covering that song too

i am girl that play bass guitar

    well see ya! :-)

  • Good song! Nice job.

  • Nice try but your bass sounds a bit out of tune !

Anyway it was a good job !

  • Yes, I agree about the tuning. I play by ear too, And when I listen back to this I go "ughhh!" But I was learning a lot of different stuff about the bass, like tuning, as you can tell! lol!

  • Hey, I just stumbled onto your videos. Very nice. I'm 24 and am just getting into playing bass. I also am just getting into Porcupine Tree, just heard them the first time the other day.

Anyways, nice playing. Keep up the excellent work. :)

  • Good job. As 73h1337kiwi said, train yourself to use all four fingers of your left hand and you'll be even better. Also, there was a transition from, I think A to G, on the bottom string that you played with your first finger alone (by sliding down). It'll be a lot easier for you, and sound better, if you can work out a way of playing the first note with finger 3 or 2, the finger 1 for the lower note.

Still, that was really good. Want to join my band?

    :-)

  • Thank you! Oh and I agree on the fingering and sliding. But read my channel info, I play weird cuz I have lupus & with that, I have some bad arthritis in my hands and fingers, so I've had to learn to play the bass with just the fingers I can move. So I slide a lot. BUT, playing helps loosen up the others, so maybe some day I will be able to use them!

  • whats funny is i've seen people play this with all their fingers and do way worse than you :)

if you could use all your fingers you'd be lightening.

  • ho my god I love this song!!!!!

    great cover

  • Very cool!!!

You ever listen to Mick Karn play bass?

  • Thank you very much! And no, I haven't but now I'm going to do a search and do so! Thanks!

  • Here are a few youtube videos of Mick Karn playing bass, fretless I believe, in the 1970's, early 80's band named Japan.

By the way, did you notice the keyboard player? Not the one doing vocals, but the other one. That's a very young Richard Barbieri, who as you know now plays keyboards in Porcupine Tree.

By the way, did you spot a very young Richard Barbieri in this video? I believe Japan was the first band he played in, and of course he is now a member of Porcupine Tree.

  • I love PT!!! Keep up the playing!!!

Music is an international language. You don't have to understand the words...the rhythm, and the energy, can move you. Music is the greatest love of my life, and it's gotten me through some tough times, too.

Keep up the good work, and keep fighting!!! God Bless!!

  • FAIL

  • Porcupine Tree is one of my favs! This cover does the song justice too. I'm not quite at that level yet, just takes time!

  • Seriously, I didn't saw a begginer bassist. You are very good! Your tempo is perfect!!

Need to specially felicitate you because you aren't shy about your desease. I have a autoimmune desease too (Crohn' desease), and I'm proud you don't let yourself be defeated by it!

    Congratulations!

    Make music your power!!

  • Thank you! I am sorry about your Chrohns, my sis had that. And yes, make music your power. It is my power and it keeps me going! Take care!

  • Porcupine Tree is great - I just learned this song myself, and it's not terribly easy. It takes some work. You're doing really well, and it's nice to see another female bass player trying out more technical material. Keep it up! :)

  • omg i wish u were my mom rofl

  • lol! So I could fix your lunches in the morning??? lol! Or because I would buy you the best bass and tell you to spend all the time you need playing it. :)

  • haha i pick the second one x3

  • Hey! If you like Porcupime tree check my channel if you want!

  • Just got back from your channel. EXCELLENT!!! I subscribed and left a couple of comments. WOW! You really "get" or "understand" their music. I'm glad I found your channel. Thanks!!!

  • great video! i like your musical taste and that you still keep on playing even with lupus! keep on the good work

  • You're great! Even with lupus, you keep working... I wish I had all that will you've got! Congratulations, girl!

Oh, btw, your bass's tone is awesome =)

  • Hey thank you! It hasn't been until just recently that I've learned I got lucky when choosing a bass. I didn't know anything about guitars or basses when I bought it (tone, etc.) so luckily got a decent one!

  • if you are just a beginner this is great.. your fingertechnique and the way your thumb is on the pickup is just great! :D exactly as it should be, keep practicing and you'll be very good :)

  • Yes, beginner when playing this song. I have lupus, which arthritis is part of. My hands and fingers don't work like most people. So I can only play as I can. I have to adapt.

  • Kudos. Porcupine tree are awesome. I've been playing bass for about 3 years and i've yet to attempt this, as it sounds really fiddly. You've inspired me. :)

  • If you've been playing for 3 years it shouldn't be that hard, it's just the rhythm of the instrumental section thats tricky

  • It is always hard for me because of my lupus.

  • i didn't know you have lupus i'm sorry

  • That OK, if someone clicks on the watch a video, they don't know that. So its cool!!

  • great cover, great song, great band

    5/5

  • AAAAA que bien

  • Well done, this song is great...if I were to pick up a bass this would be one of the first songs I'd try to learn.

  • Hey - came across your video in the related videos on mine (I just posted this song too). Do you still play it? By the way, nice bass.

  • Thanks! I like my bass, it is just my size! I haven't played this in a long time. I need to, since I've learned more about playing the bass. I need to check out your videos.

  • Yeah, this song is definately a keeper. Of course I'm biased but I like songs which are domiated by the bass. :) I'm in a huge Porcupine Tree phase right now - can't get enough of those guys.

  • Me too! PC phase that is. I didn't even know about them until my husband gave me a CD, then the next month they came to our city, in a small venue, and I got to sit down front!!! I was BLOWN AWAY! Colin's bass playing was mesmerizing (I can't spell)

  • WHOA! A girl who likes porcupine tree and plays bass! Nice job!

  • I think it's great! (:

    Porcupine Tree 4everandever!

  • nice playing.

I wish I had your hair, it's so nice and curly (:

  • I want to hang out with you....

  • lol! When you find someone that likes the same band, it is easy to want to hang out with them. Porcupine Tree is one of those bands that are so awesome once you discover them, you can't stop listening!

  • I agree completely!

  • Nice! Good playing, not everyday you see a female bassist.

    Keep it up!

If you wanna see this whole song played visit my proflie.

  • nice but ur playing the end a bit wrong :P just a small mistake :)

  • Thank you and I don't doubt that (playing it wrong) but I love the song so much, I wanted to attempt a part of it. I just love PC!

  • u should do some STP. they are really good.

  • That is wild! Our band just learned Plush for our set, and will probably do Interstate Love Song and some others. You are right, some excellent songs by them.

  • what about trippin on a hole in a paper heart?

  • Ahh!! too much guitar hero!!!

  • I loved your finger stilke... great job on that song... you used the 1st 2nd and 4th strings on that song???

  • Heck, maybe I did??? I have to go play it now to see how I played it....lol! My finger style is because I can't play bass correctly I guess, so I'm all over the place. Plus in the band I'm in, I have to play along with the guitar player....ugh..hard.

  • by the way, nice that youre starting with finger style:). the pick sucks ass, so keep it up:D!

  • also a good job!, maybe a nice tip?.. try muting the low strings with your thumb when not playing them. i mean when you do the fingerstyle on the D&G strings put youre thumb on the E or A in stead of the pickup. hope it helps. cheers!

  • OK, that would help since I get a ring too long. Thanks!!

  • youre welcome:)

  • hoho I have that same bass! but a 5 string version!

  • Really? Do you like it?? Is it light weight too???

  • compared to most 5 strings, yes it is light. I love it. The 5th string sounds kind of muddy, but might just be the brand of strings I have on it.

  • 3)Your hands seem a bit too "confused" when you play the main "groove".

Solution: Get a tab sheet and know the song better. Nothing around it really.

Overall you're doing a good job. Keep it up!

  • Yea, actually they are. LOL! Naw, without sounding like I am whining, my disability causes me not to have good control of my hands or fingers...I am sort of spastic if you want to call it that. So I don't look like I am flowing. That is why I needed the metronome so bad, to close my eyes, concentrate and relax.

  • Ok, I can see a few problems you have (no disrespect):

    1) You are playing ahead of the music.

Solution: Practice with a metronome more often.

    2) You have trouble reaching some notes in the main "groove" part of the song.

Solution: Try playing on the 12th fret on the E string instead of going on the higher strings.

  • Thank you, I do play with a metronome, plus I record sometimes directly into my PC using the metronome, but when I play and video it, the timing is off due to the constraints of a cheap digital camera on movie mode. When I began learning bass, the first thing I got before the tuner was a metronome. I agree on the E, thank you that will help A LOT!! I appreciate the help.

  • hey girl! here I am again buggin your ass. I just uploaded my guitar version of this song. come check it over my profile.

oh BTW, in the bridge, tha bass plays the same as the guitar.

and though I said it before(1 month ago lol). you did great. here! keep it up girl!

  • You aren't buggin me!!! Can't wait to see your video, will after I respond to this. Yea, about the bridge, I listen to this CD in my car all the time and I was thinking I was all wrong in places...I am!! ha! Gotta fix that. OK, I'll go look now!

  • whats wrong with your fingers tell me?

  • Nice Work, I LOVE PT.

  • Thank you and I love PT too!!!

  • Cool playing............I am 40 and love PT..........I play bass and keyboards.keep it up

  • Thank you! I love them too, and I am older than you!

  • How much you pay for that bass?

  • Hum, if I remember right, it was around $270 ???

  • Oh what is it?

  • as always you did great girl! did you uload the new version of anna molly already? I'm going over your profile to check it out. and some other sounds I didn't noticed you had. keep it up girl! you rock!

  • No I didn't upload it yet, I don't like it afterall! ha! I was reading the Bass Player magazine with Incubus' bass player in it and the tab for Anna Molly, and decided I'd better stick to his tab...since he plays it! So I don't like my video now, gonna redo it tonight!

  • heey good attempt! very nice

do you like dream theater? check my videos XD

  • Yes I do. I just was telling someone else that today. I had to learn Pull Me Under not too long ago! Thanks for the comment!

  • another cool one, i like your playing style

  • good job, work on the timing but another great effort on bass riffs that are melodic.

  • awesome again! nice job

  • Hi Emusedone, cool bass line. Is that from the video game Halo? Please excuse my ignorance - I'm kinda old.

  • I have to laugh at this one! You are kind of old? I bet I am WAYYY older than you!!! I saw these guys live last month at the Aladdin in PDX, UNREAL...

  • I just looked them up - they sound very interesting. Sounds like they have been around for almost 20 years. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of them. As for my age, I'll be turning 63 this year.

  • No you won't! Yes, their music is all over the place as far as technique, starting out slow and basic timing, then all of a sudden it turns into this cool all over the place stuff. And you aren't 63.
