Hi there chris! WOW! I am drewelling already. do you have any websites for the stuff you get? that would be a cool setup for just an armchair photo person like me. What do you think of the Canon 7D?
They better put a BAG OF ICE in your DSLR to keep it from overheating. Until DSLR manufactures fix the overheating issue they are good still cameras, but expensive and unreliable TOYS as video recording devices.
And NOT, Canon's FIRMWARE didn't FIX the over heating issue. It only tweaks the WARNING to come up LATER. A poor Band-aid fix.
From Canon
"Extends the timing at which the high temperature warning indicator is displayed"
Hi there, great rig! The shoulder mount looks like it has padding and i would imagine it is quite comfortable... do you recommend it? if so where did you get it from? Also, do you think it is ok to have a shoulder mount without a counter weight?
Hi there, great rig! The shoulder mount looks like it has padding and i would imagine it is quite comfortable... do you recommend it? if so where did you get it from? Also, do you think it is ok to have a shoulder mount without a counter weight?
From this interview, I am assuming Chris Weeks is an interesting and fun person to work with. Once again, thank for the production. Thank you. - Behind VFX
Record both outboard audio and onboard. Then use a certain software to sync them together in post, then mute the onboard track. no more slate or timecode needed. Every waveform is unique like a fingerprint.
It is great to see someone who communicates so naturally and unpretentious, sought of guy to have a beer and a chat with, really enjoyed the video even though not into video production yet. good stuff!
Well the way how would I use the slate to sync is someone (director) shouts "action" the camera starts filming the slate, same time you need a good audio recorder (Marantz) to record audio and you actually will use the beep coming from the slate (iphone) to sync audio/video in a nonlinear editing software (Adobe Premiere, final cut, etc). I would say that the camera audio can help to sync a/v, you can delete it after the sync process.
Thank you SO MUCH for putting me up on that electric clapper. I own a clapper, but it's just SO cumbersome and I'm not a production level where a clapper-boy is even an option for someone who has to be paid.
It's great that still shooters now have a capable DSLR that can do outstanding HD video. OTOH, I'm a video guy with 20 years experience in field production. And now with my recent purchase of a 5dMkii I can now do STILL WORK as well as video! I've already got a full studio and decades into understanding video lighting, sound, blocking and directing live talent. Welcome "DSLR videographers" into my world!
The 5DmkII was never designed for filmmaking any, it was AP and Reuters wanting web-video content that their photographers could record. It's specs clearly demonstrate that. Regardless of what people buy video wise, it's a high end and creative business. The whole point of the Dslr - video feature was to cut costs. So newspapers don't need to hire vid-camera operators they couldn't afford. Photographers are doing 2x more work now for the same money! However most production standards show that!
The market is getting completely flooded with photographers and videographers now anyway. Same happens in many creative industries!
People offer to work for free, then more and more 'companies' take on people who will only work for free - or at most expenses, but they can gain experience as a bonus. Companies start to under cut each other, and it dies. The strong might survive, who knows!
Look at web-design started so strong now someone knows someone who can do it, and do it for free!
That would be much much more expensive. To get 35mm film look you have to spend 10.000 of Dollars on the camera and next to that you need another set of lenses.
The price wouldn't be too far from what he paid for all this equipment. I just don't see a point in buying all of this stuff and spending this much money on a DSLR that does videoing. With a camcorder, half the features that he purchased for the DSLR is already equiped and built in. And nevertheless, a camcorder is made for videoing, so the quality is going to be 10x as better as a DSLR which is made to take photos.
That's the thing. Quality isn't as good with a camcorder then with a 5dMKII. If you get a camcorder, you have a fixed zoom lens and a small sensor. With a 5DMKII you can chance lenses (wide, tele, prime->use wide open aperture), you have a large sensor and therefor a small depth of field.
You can go ahead, get a camcorder that might be specificly designed for video which cost less, but then you don't get that cinematic feel and look. If you want that you have to pay bigbig money or use a DSLR.
Ok, you sound like a photographer. SO let me ask you...How many times have clients came to you and said, I want you to film an event of mine and I want it to have that cinematic look and feel; oh! Don't forget, I want the dept of field to look nice also!...Honestly, how many times have you gotten that? And how many times will you actually use all of that equipment? Think about supply and demand.
I'm only doing stills and that in a completely different field... :o)
On the other hand the question... if you are selling video and want it to look different, more catchy and Intriguing, you use something like this. Wouldn't you agree, that a look like this makes you stand out, ergo makes you sell more?
I guess a guy who uses a lot of manuell focusing lenses on his DSLRs and a Rangefinder next to it, knows what and why he is doing that and is more into the look then into the handling.
Yeah, thats my point. If you're a still photographer, why are you gonna go out and purchase all of this equipment unless you're in the videographer world, and if that was the case, you should spend your money on professional grade camcorders (I'm not saying you in particular, I'm just speaking in general). But looks does sell and I admit that alot of people feel very "important" when you arrive with alot of professional looking equipment.
Again, a digital "professional grade camcorders" costs up to multiple $10.000 to get a filmgrade look. The Gear he is presenting is all in all maybe at 10.000 and he can use most of it for stills as well, so he doesn't have to buy double.
The 5dMkII was franaticly recieved in the amateur/semipro market, because you don't have to spend 100.000 on gear. It was used on the set of Iron Man 2 etc.
So why not offer video in film grade quality with stuff that you already got and not extra 100.000
hi, what lens are you using on the dslr(the on on the rig) in this video?
