@sardonicblues25 Code Red is releasing it on DVD next month--you can pre-order it at DVD Empire. I plan on grabbing a copy before they're gone--the company is going belly up this summer (and good luck finding it then).

Oh wow! I am really into horror movies and why in the world have I not seen this one?! The effects do look a bit "cheesy" but who cares - I'm always up for an old '70s horror.
@FredericaBimble I highly recommend it! The effects aren't at all cheesy, though very minimal. The prints are usually quite faded and dark. Though this might actually add to the creepy atmosphere. The characters are very dirty, sweaty and unshaven for most of the film. Also, since even the protagonists are unlikable, one can feel quite uneasy with each stupid mistake the city-boys make. When the men start turning on each other, little do they realize the horrors that await!
darkototalgeek: I read a rumor on the Rue Morgue message board that Code Red pushed back the Rituals DVD release date because they are getting an interview with Hal Holbrook to put on the DVD.
Rituals was on the cover of a recent issue of Rue Morgue magazine, so Code Red better hurry up with that release while the movie is still on the minds of the readers of Rue Morgue.
Some people who preordered from Amazon got their orders canceled and refunds.
I actually have this movie on DVD. Its funny cause this is one of those movies with the infamous alternate titles problem. On the trailer its known as "Rituals" but on the dvd disc its printed as "Deadly Encounter" and watching the movie itself it's called "The Creeper"

The film has a pretty good set-up and keeps a lot of suspense throughout the movie. The ending, though, was kind of weak.

Anyone know if Code Red are still going to release this film on DVD. They posted that they will close in 2011. Only 3 + months away.
Really enjoyed this film. Better than Deliverance!

Man.. that's one stupid trailer!
The movie was okay.. not too good, but not terrible either. I've always liked Holbrook.
