  • @warez35 hahah yes of course you can! just try your best! and steectch-every night for about 5 mins! it really reall really helps!

  • I have always been scared to try a back handspring because i was afraid of hurting myself. i guess because i haven't thought about the actual TECHNIQUE of the flip.

    BUT...after watching this video i tried and actually did it ! ! Thanks a lot !

    if, no mat,spotter or gym, try getting to loafs of bed matresses on each other and practice

  • I thought the point of a good Handspring was to land in the same position.... not go backwards...

  • @Misteryman94 yes in tae kwon do and most karate based programs a back handspring is meant to stay in one place. but in cheerleading and gymnastics actually your supposed to go as far back as possible. in cheerleading your supposed to stay in the same position when doing a back tuck. :)

  • yeah, like for me my coaches always tell me to arch more. you have to have pretty strong shoulders too. but theyre not too hard

  • @katieschannel to prevent injuries, keep ur arms straight and near ur ears like he said in the video and u wont break ur neck or elbows,

    so if u do it wrong, but have ur arms straight u wont injure ur spine or anything just maybe ur knees or feet ..or legs idk

  • I was really afraid to do these for the longest time, i just started by doing them on a trampoline, and then once i felt comfortable there i got spotted on the floor and then once i felt comfortable with that i did them myself :)

  • All you have to do is just go for it. I know its not that easy, im a gymnast. All I do is not think abut it. Don't think of how to do the flip, just try it. Once you have it down (even if it is in bad form) then you start thinking about having straight legs and arms. You should first just get the hang of jumping backwards and getting over to the ground. You could always strart gymnastics and learn though.

  • @SilenceHCO you have to be confident, or else you'll physc yourself out and thats how you hurt yourself :) once your confident, there is nothing stopping you and you can do it no problem!

  • for cheerleading i have to learn to do a back hand spring and my wrists always give out when im trying to do the back handspring at gymnastic classes and i always think im going to fall and break my neck it so fustrating its like i want a magic genie to grant my wish to do a SIMPLE BACK HAND SPRING!!

  • Okay; so im a 16 year old male, and i haven't taken gymnastics my entire life. However, i have had a trampoline since i was around 7, and can do almost everything on the trampoline such as a back tuck, a front tuck, a back handspring, a front handspring, an aerial etc. On the ground, i can only do a front handspring though. Can anyone tell me if 16 is too late to start gymnastics, in my situation? Thank you :)

  • It's never too late to start gymnastics but guys wont do aerials lol. So you can start any time, usually some gym places fit you with people in your age group for classes.

  • Try putting a piece of foam between your ankles. The goal is to squeeze so it doesn't come out. You can also use a frisbee or something like that between your thighs. Anything that will make u squeeze ur legs together. Hope that helps.

  • i have weak wrists, but i want to start gymnastics and learn the back hand spring so much, any tips for building wrist strength?

    im really skinny and im 14 :(

    i may be starting to late, but that wont stop me from learning :)

  • weak wrists really shouldn't hurt you from gymnastics, mostly because in a handspring what collapses are typically your elbows. however, before you tumble, make sure you stretch your wrists very well, and you might end up with sore joints for a while

  • Know any good wrist stretches cuz mine dont seem to work. I usually rotate them clockwise, then counter-clockwise about 4-5 times

  • if you go on your hands and knees, place your hands on the ground and lean backward and forward on them for a few seconds. then put the back of your hands on the ground and again lean on them a few times. you can switch your hands into different positions ( fingers pointed outward, inward, palms down, palms up) to further stretch. if you want any more help, just send me a message and I'll be glad to help. =)

  • Also, when you have your elbows out like around 1:30, it puts more weight on your wrists and elbows, which really hurts. =\
