  • So great voice and so good looking, what else i can hope.

  • I've just made a translation of this song ( I'm russian ) to Portuguese because some friends of mine, who are portuguese, love this song. Long life to Dmitry! We love you, your talent and your devotion to the 'belcanto'

  • Dima Hvorostovsky, eto legalnyi bog na zemlyi, yevo galos eto bezmernaya krasota.

Uzhe mnogo dney ya yevo otchen lyublyu.

  • Bravo Dmitri!

This is a superb rendition o the song!

  • I can't believe I wrote that.

  • Yes, My first thought was Draco, too. But better Lucius. :D

    Slytherins forever!

If Harry Potter will be an opera, Dmitri should sing Lucius. (And Eric Halfvarsson Voldy!)

He is so, so beautiful. If I were Tatiana, I would go with him and then... live in the snowed woods...

  • that's nice comparation but this is not just the place to wright about harry potter!!

  • Please accept my apology. If it's any compensation he served in the same regiment for military service as my father-in-law.

I won't talk about Harry Potter again on a Hvorostovski video, I am suitably chastened. Dobby ... will ... not .... do ... anything ... like ... that ...again!!!

  • @usenetposts IDK. I feel like hes more of a Snape...

  • ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu pony!

  • Lyublyu,Dmitri!

    Ankhsnammon

    (Let me die for you!)

  • Thank you so much for the translation! It makes me appreciate Dmitri's performance even more (if possible!) because now that I understand the words, I realize the he got it exactly right: strength and honor!

  • Through storms and tempests this stone will travel

And return to its original place in a worthy manner.

A familiar seagull will flap its wings

And your heart will beat peacefully.

A Black Sea sailor will climb the rock

The one who has brought his motherland new glory

    And in a peaceful time

    Ships will pass by

Under the sun of our native land.

  • Sailors-friends have rescued a hero

    A storm wave is churning.

He squeezed a stone in his blue hand

And said in a low voice, dying

"When I abandoned my dear rock,

I took a piece of granite with me

    So that far away

    From the Crimean land

    We can never forget it.

  • Thank you mrbusy very much too. ok and now I finally got the dvd, so here is the official translation (part one):

    Cold waves come crashing

    by the wide Black Sea

the last sailor has left Sebastopol

He is walking away, fighting the waves.

And a threatening, salted, raging billow

Has been smashing wave after wave against the boat.

    In a foggy distance

    The land cannot be seen

    The ships are far away

  • This is a fabulous song! I gather it's a wartime patriotic song, but I don't understand Russian. Could someone kindly provide an English translation? Hvorostovsky is wonderful. I recommend all the wartime songs mrbusy has posted. "The Hills of Manchuria" is especially poignant, from the time of the war between Russia and Japan.

    Thank you so much, mrbusy!
