I looked for every single cover version of dancing barefoot i could find on youtube, and every single person that posts the cover from whatever artists has said "IMO definitely the best cover, better then the original." I think it suffices to say that this song is good no matter who is doing it. And no, this is definitely not the best version of it I've heard today.

Slurpee? I have to laugh at that childish comparison. When U2 can produce New Gold Dream, Up on the Catwalk, Waterfront, This Earth that You Walk Upon, Theme for Great Cities, just to name a few, then you can say U2 is in the same league. ;-). The Minds are far superior except for the annoying fact that keep changing band members. I mean WTF, what was wrong with Eddy Duffy? The guys was the second best bass player in their history, after Derek Forbes. At times Kerr has more ego than Bono.

The Simple Minds version is far superior to the U2 cover. The Minds deliver a much more interesting and original interpretation of this Patti Smith song. Burchill plays with such complexity and inventiveness that leaves poor Mr. Edge in an ocean of mediocrity filled with the same old guitar sounds. Kerr's voice is by far more involving and tends to draw you into the song, whereas Mr. Bono just sounds monotenous and the same ole. same ole....The Minds have this one by a wide margin!

U2's version sounds like what you would expect from U2: Same ole, same ole stuff. Predictible and boring. TH Minds version is more eclectic and does not sound like the Minds, which is why it's unique. Th Mission cover pretty damn good. But the Minds are just better musicians than the rest. U2 always sounds the same to my ears. Their 2 best albums were War and Auchtung Baby. Where as the Minds have had such diverse and original music to make them far more interesting. They are just more inventive

i think the different versions are suited in different times, and music tendencies, being the smith the original and remarkable one, simple minds maybe in late 80's 0r early90's and u2 i guees in late 90's and early 2000.. i dont know for sure, but all 3 are great.. prefer smith and U2 tough..but this one is great also.

I like both Patti Smith's and U2s version differently, but much more than this Simple Minds version. The song drags and lacks and real emotional angst or yearning. They miss the mark on this song, and never really ever get close to capturing this song. The lyrics are so listless here and the music has zero drive. Simply put, they are horrible here. They should have stuck with The Breakfast Club and left this alone to deeper souls.

I disagree completely. I have heard the original, which is good for its time, (I do like the end with the poetic verse) and the U2 version is okay too--very distinctly U2-ish. This one is also very good, just different and more smooth and polished, but not soulless. Jim Kerr has a unique sound and I have loved his voice since Simple Minds' first album back in the early eighties. :)
