@jk4bs They're called pillow box bearings. I found them at a specialty industrial drive-train manufacturer in Seattle, which was a stroke of luck. I think some automotive shops may have them or be able to point you in the right direction. There are a bunch if different shaped and sizes, it's just a matter of finding something the right size for whatever your axle is.
i have to give you props for building this. You had the creativity to not only build a washer, but you are also getting fit while at it. much respects and are you going to build anymore stuff?
great video! thank you...you were kidding about the solar powered clothes dryer right? because here in florida we just call that a clothes line :) anyway could you possibly post a list of parts that were required for this project?
Seems this pedal powered drum in drum design, using scrap bike parts is the way to go. Have you thought about adding a sort of controll pannel with a lever to open a drane valve to let out the used wash water, and to open another valve to let in rinse water from a hose, all while staying in the "driver seat"?
Hi... Curious if you might be able to make one or two of these for me? Or if you are able to draw-up plans for me to do it myself? I've taken pictures of your video here, though it might be more useful if you have the thing documented. I sent email to your address John.Delp@gmail.com, though maybe you're not using it anymore? Great idea anyway!
I live in an apartment, Government, and I pay rent 450/m0, but I get water free. But I do not use the water to wash my clothes. I use rain water...shhhh, don't tell on me. And the sun comes in my window like crazzzzyyy. So, I hang my clothes out to dry in front of my windows......I save my fiance about 30 dollars a month. He just loves that. Besides, the washers here at the Government complex have animal feces and urine put into the washers...health dept won't do anything about it.
Excellent! My friends and I now intend to build two or even three (one for each married couple) after having seen this video. What an outstanding way to save energy and be more self reliant.
There is another way to wash clothes, but this is a great way.
Here it is. Are you ready. First of all limit the amount of clothes you have to wear. This would put China out of business for sure (I need to tell that to Donald Trump !)
Second, put your clothes in barrel, put your water in , your laundry soap (whatever), I make my own laundry soap, and seal the barrel, put it in the back
Good health care incentive...Obama would not know what to do with an idea like this.
..in the back of your buddies truck for a day or two, and they are washed, for rinse, empty, and fill with clean water, another drive around. they are clean!
better yet! out your clothes in a 10 gallon bucket, put a hole in the lid, and place a plunger through the hole, and plung away.....works really good.
my clothes line is my shower curtain rod, and the nails in front of my windows, where I hand my clothes to dry. Screw my landlord, he gets no money from me at his laundry mat. nope, he sure don't. My neighbors spend like 25 dollars a month to do laundry, and they want to know where I get my money to buy a swimming pool pass to swim everyday. What, I don't sit around like them and do nothing. I even have more money than them to walk to Subway and get a sandwich...it's funny!
WOW!!! What fantastic contraption! Kudos to you both for your invention. I REALLY want to make one, you could draw up plans and sell them...to me! I'm sure that this is a product that would fill a niche market of sans-grid, homesteaders "eco-ists", and people who would like to build one for fun.
@ufoengines Clothes Whirly, eh? I'd love to see that. It tends to stay pretty cloudy up here, and anything we can do to speed up the drying process sounds worth the effort. Keep me posted!
It looks like you've got a really great machine here. It was a good idea to use two plastic drums, (Mayapedal's machine has a metal outer drum, but it has some rust issues). Also bolting it down is very smart. Keep up the good work.
If you're ever in Guatemala you should visit Mayapedal.
So you said you could build one for someone.. so about how much would you charge to do that?

No warranty?
Seriously gets an "A" for effort. Nice way to reuse those drums.
Delicates, use a cadence of 50
Heavy, keep the pace at 90 or higher
Keep gatorade or beer at hand. A cooler or keg will do nicely.

Nice. Another possible way to spin the washer drum is to have some rollers benearth it that are to be rotated.

Pretty Cool, makes me want to construct my design for a clothes washer.
I think I can use fewer parts and no welding.
Soon after testing, I'll post a vid of my wind powered tumble clothes dryer.
A clothes line is good, but my "Clothes Whirly" is a lot of fun to watch.

I was given 2 plastic barrels that were used to store diesel fuel. Is there a way to completely clean the diesel fuel out of these barrels?
TheMysteryGardener 1 year ago
@6thsundown
The steel axle is attached on one side by being threaded into the bung hole. We built a brace for the other side and attached it with bolts.
We're working on a more thorough, step-by-step video. Stay tuned!
