I saw one of their very first shows in a gazebo in a little obscure suburban park in Torrance where they--true to their name--had a big clock "onstage" that they used to timed the songs at exactly one minute. There was about 15 people attending!
@vansrok1 teles all come with those, i think theyr just covered single coils, but i have a 59dano reissue, sounds very like a tele but better i think.
After all the hard core punk and quirky pop songs from weird limey bands in the 1980's, the minutemen album double nickels on the dime was a breath of fresh air. I wore mine out in 1986 and later
No Doubt... My Favorite Minutemen album is Double Nickels... Now... you got to admit... They really did have a slew of Kickin' EP's... Buzz or Howl... What Makes a Man Start Fires... BUT... Double Nickels was... and still is... Incredible...
I have met Mike Watt, but still I am wondering how much of these 'pro shot ' videos are like...wow!!! they really did it!!! Gotta get that book "Our Band Could Be Your Life" and re-read it again. I also sugest you all read this book, Minutemen fans!!! D. BOON R.I.P.
Awesome song. Double Nickels on the Dime was one of the best double albums ever made. Lucky enough to have seen them at a small Eugene art gallery show in the early 80s, almost nobody there.
i love this song. it was the first song i learned to sing and play guitar to. D. Boon is my hero and nobody was more punk then he was. the good always die way to young. r.i.p d.
Saw them many times in LA back in the day and as much as I loved them it seemed like so many shows were attended by a disproportionate number of idiots. But like Rollins said just an absolutely smokin band.
My favorites have to be the Gringo/Product/Little Man EP side.
George is wearing a Traxx t shirt from the show I remember seeing them play in Detroit. The problem was there were so many idiots in attendence who thought they were a harcore band, went a mile over their heads. Saw them year before play a small VFW hall, may have been one of the best shows I have ever seen. yeah.
In this video Boon looks a hell of a lot like one of the guys I work with at a restaurant. This song is by far one of their best I think. That riff kicks ass.
Nice to see a live version of one of my favorite tracks of the group in that setting. The band sounded great live, particularly D's guitar. The performances were kinda raw and a bit discordant, but overall the band rocked.
So cool. None higher.

Not many people know this but the sky in Lomita, California IS actually neon green
mohawk1020 10 months ago
@mohawk1020 I never noticed that--perhaps influenced by the light at the harbor! There is a lot of neon on old motels on PCH though!

@mohawk1020 Ahaha, very true as I use to traverse the the side streets of San Pedro in my bigwheel back in the 70s and witnessed the very same sky!
