My anticipation for the next line to come, she surprises me. I'm a ridiculously huge Smith fan but I prefer this version. It was never a Smith song I gave much attention, he's written far better, but Peyroux would make me listen to this more than I do.
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
Hey, I’m a young artist, and I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my original compositions “My Bluest Sky” and “Será.” “My Bluest Sky” sounds a bit like a cross between “Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé, “Water Runs Dry” by Boyz II Men, and “Tell Him” by Lauryn Hill. And “Será” is, of course, a Latin number that is very high energy, hot-blooded, and extremely unforgettable. Thanks!
i was just arguing with people about covers of this song and how they completely pale in comparisson to the original. In a way i ate my words. This cover is brilliant. What it does, is take the saong, musically and vocally, and shifts it slightly to the left. its kind of a re-interperatation. Elliots version was very "inner" whereas this opens up the song more. Hard to describe in ways, but brilliant work. Such a hard song to cover, done exceptionally. Prefer the original, but this has a place!
The thing that strikes me when I hear this cover is that Elliots lyrics and style of performing are what makes his music so special, this womans talent is beyond doubt yet I still feel it loses some of the simple natural intensity with its overblown musical arrangement, I do like it for the fact it brings Elliots songs to a new audience .,theres many better covers of this song on youtube with much fewer views.. RIP Elliot smith .
I agree comepletely. I found myself unjustifiably WANTING to hate this song in the same way that a kid would hate to see a new man with his arm around their mothers shoulders after his dad passes. But i can't let my love and passion for elliot smith look down on other artsist for wanting to express themselves.
This cover was beautiful. I appreciate it in many ways. I like elliott's more. but this is a great song to turn to if my mood is different.
absolutely. The singing and arrangement are exquisite. Its on the level of the Byrd's covers of Dylan, or even better, Hendrix. Even better than that. Its so true to the original song, and yet it has it's own voice. This is true artistry..
hey i cannot to understand this mode to criticize who not appreciate something. maybe i'm here by an accident and isn't in my taste, why ever this cultural racism? i don't like it, i don't like what you like i like other things my things. point. that's all. out.
I first heard this cover when I was sitting in a cafe on the shores of Skala Eressos, Lesvos, Greece. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I have always loved Elliott Smith's original, but this cover is equally as beautiful. And I have a fantastic memory to go along with it.
Elliott is really difficult to cover because he had that "fragile" voice that really added something to the song...still a nice cover, at least it's not trying to imitate.
Okay this is very amazing. I like the instrumental aspect of it. And I like the vocal aspect of it. But I don't feel like the two FULLY go together well. Which, in my opinion, is what makes it really quite amazing. I just feel she plays with the tempo of the vocals a tiny bit more than is necessary to move the song.
But hey, thats just me. Again, I really like this a lot!! Both versions of it (original and this cover) are works of art.
Her voice has this air about it like its coming out of a gramophone. I love it. This version is one thats definitely one to be admired, however, i don't think anyone could ever out do the simple beauty of Elliott's original version in my opinion.
well the lyrics are brilliant....when i hear elliotts i relate a bit more, but when i hear hers ...its weird empathetic towards a girl in a video....its an artistic recreation that really nailed it
My God did she makes this song her own! Notice how she lags the beginning syllable of many of the words. Being conditioned by hundreds of listens to Elliott's version I keep feeling myself leaning in to my computer in anticipation. Love it!!!
Alright. But comparisons with the original would just be unfair. Elliott Smith's original is pure soulful melancholy. Hard to set that as a parameter anyone else can ever touch again.
Sublime. Madeleine's timing is comparable to no other living singer... only Ella Fitzgerald comes to mind. This woman is so incredibly musically gifted... I never tire of her intelligent, sincere interpretations.
It is a beautiful version in it's own right, however I feel she failed to capture the haunting aspects of elliott's style. Her version is more melancholy then haunting, but I'm sure that's what she intended..
i can definitely feel elliott more...more empathy in his song.....this kinda creeps me out, honestly....it kinda sounds like background music to a horror movie where they're just filming the stalker/killer...but, cool persepctive....definitely respectable
i have to disagree, i hear covers that are hella better than the original. you are right that the original created subsequent songs, however, that doesn't mean the original is the best.
but this song is def not better than elliott's version, thats for sure.
Hardly so, I will for ever and always think Elliott's is the best. But I think this has a somewhat done up, but more down low feel to it which is splendid.
I enjoyed the music to this song, although the vocals were not of my taste, especially when compared to Elliott Smith's original. I do have to say though, that her vocals give the song a different feeling or mood which is an interesting spin.
Good good, however Elliott's will continue to put me into awe as it is great great!
