you need to wait till the dash coil glows really hot untill you turn it on. And about the bet thing i want to say another 200,000 miles till she gernades just put some ply wood and 2x4's under the seats and you should be fine
how can it be so rusty? my w123 -83 240<d sat 3 years in snow and rain here in Sweden, and it fired up in like one second.. it has just a bit of shallow rust, but one hole on the rear fender.. these cars are the most reliable, dunno what happened to yours though.. :P
Dude that is not a rod knock what u have is a stuck injector on one of the cylinder , u can hear the exhaust going puff puf of the cylinder limping along,,pull all injectors and check them one of them nozle is bad ,,, and please fix the glow deal and you have a fine car.
Man! A diesel with a rod knock that bad...ain't gonna last long. Most diesels get little end knock. But with rod knock like that, it must've never had an oil change.
That thing ROCKS. That motor is gonna grenade. Would be fun at a party with a brick on accelerator to take bets on how many seconds it will still run. :-)
i always thought to myself.... wonder how you can tell a diesel has rod knock.... since they are usually noisy... but i suppose if you let it go on long enough, =) it becomes distinct enough to notice lol

@n4120p It was a rod knock, I sent it to the dump, it's probably in China now as scrap metal.

@n4120p .....or maybe someone poured a bucket of diarrhea into the gas tank; this is why it runs like SHIT. LOL

Get too close to that engine and you'll end up with one of those rods as a guest in your face.
