@karlgookey Keep working on your musical education. Many forms of music have long histories of artists changing lyrics over time..even in short times. Study up on folk and blues traditions. You will see it in many contemporary artists as well. Eddie Vedder follows that tradition at times to a lesser degree. Kudos to you for listening to Billy Bragg though!

Ian McLagan & I have the same publicist. I've met Ian McLagan ('Mac' to his friends & those who know him). I know Mac but not too well so I asked my PR woman to ask Mac if he'd be interested in playing on my CD. Much to my surprise he said YES! I'm so humbled, flattered & excited.

We still have his classics, and unlike these 2.0, 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, etc. versions, they are not already dated. They look to be comparatively timeless.
Awkwardly revised new lyrics add little and take much away from the songs original effect. Although ideologically, I agree with it all, I wish he could have been nimbler in his re-writing.
Don't get why he pushes the anti-electronic media stuff so ham-fistedly. Recall Bragg's 'The Space Race is Over' ? Try "Greetings to the new brunette" for Billy's greatest hit, that for some reason never was! For me thats his best match of lyrics and music, this is the second the way the original grows.

Most socialist countries actually have a very decent healthcare system, especially compared to the US healthcare system which only works for a portion of its population.

Socialism is more of an economic system, and communism encompasses both economic and political, thats why it didnt work for russia. Also note that China, which is still communist, has the fastest growing economy in the world. Socialism as a social and economic solution has worked for most countries in western europe.

I caught Billy Bragg when he played Kansas City a ways back. (I now live in Seattle.) He spent two hours after his show in a room with a line of fans outside, so he could meet each one, talk briefly, sign autographs, etc. I lined up. Met him, and found him to be one of the most genuine, unassuming, gracious gentlemen I have ever met.

If you genuinely believe it's only hard work that brings success... ask someone who works 70 hours a week in 3 different jobs why he can't make his mortgage payments.
If you genuinely beieve all it takes is one good idea... try filing a patent some time, and have a look at what it's going to cost you to protect that idea against theft.

By the way, I'm tired of hearing that the poor are denied healthcare- WHEN has anyone who's gone to a hospital been denied care- ever? We even take care of illegals who show up at the hospital.

But, hey, it could be much worse, and remember this is only one version of several he's batted around. Think who much worse it would be if he'd changed the main lyric to : 'waiting...to crush the new.. world.. order' -- then I'd have to have him pied.
We still have his classics, and unlike these 2.0, 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, etc. versions, they are not already dated. They look to be comparatively timeless.

Yep. It's hard to believe so many people still believe in socialism even though it's failed on every continent over the last century. However, not sure the health care comparison is a good one. Most socialist countries actually have a very decent healthcare system, especially compared to the US healthcare system which only works for a portion of its population.

Socialism is more of an economic system, and communism encompasses both economic and political, thats why it didnt work for russia. Also note that China, which is still communist, has the fastest growing economy in the world. Socialism as a social and economic solution has worked for most countries in western europe.

I caught Billy Bragg when he played Kansas City a ways back. (I now live in Seattle.) He spent two hours after his show in a room with a line of fans outside, so he could meet each one, talk briefly, sign autographs, etc. I lined up. Met him, and found him to be one of the most genuine, unassuming, gracious gentlemen I have ever met.

Don't get me wrong all cities are tough, but he advocated mass immigration for years, now things are not working out as he thought (or maybe they are) its like lets get the kids somewhere safe away from the crime.

Yeah, think it's fab musicians got together to oust Thatcher and the Tories, shows real people power which I love!
But I took out his book the Progressive Patriot from the library & it's not progressive at all. In fact I find it quite short sighted, playing off left wing & right wing as good and bad respectively. He quite rightly presents facism as terrible but forgets to mention the atrocities of communism.
After all, here we under a Labour government, and look at the state of Britain today!

Chris, of course they do, its what we all want, But if your in a position in the media or music industry to preach a particular message, then at least have the balls to practice what you preach.
Mr Bragg was involved with some very leftist politics years ago. He backed Redwedge and rock against racism to the hilt, he wants us to live with all aspects of multicultralism, some good some bad, but has removed himself and his children from the situation.

But back to Bragg, he has been a major supporter of multicultralism for many years, but then moves his children as far away from some of the problems that come with it.
To me it suggests a good degree of hypocracy.
I just love all these media tarts who love to tell us how to live, while they live two hundred miles away from the nearest immigrant.

Exactly. Socialists are emotionally immature hypocrites. It's why Bragg appealed so much to all the "alternative" set in their youth. Then they become nostalgic for it all as they age, like normal people. It's just that what they pine for is a disgusting racial, social and class betrayal of the first order.
