hey i'm really confused by what you put in the table, i see 0 12 3 5 7 1 but what's written after that, would be really helpful if you could let me know as my number boxes are not coming up with the same values as yours are and i have an assignment in for pure data this week and am finding it unbelievably confusing, cheers
Does anyone know why every time I try to change the numbers and shift the hertz around with my mouse the sound just stops and then wont work again even when I delete the number box?

please please can you do another tutorial with more stuff? i want to learn and i find youtube totorials great for a first quick approach to the language...if you don't post more tutorials i'mma fire my lazors
Thanks a lot for posting this : ) Very nice introductory tutorial. I would pay for you to run through a whole shlew of PD stuff with videos just like this.
I'm just learning PD and my head is about to explode! I started yesterday but have been at it nonstop, with this tutorial I found online. I mainly wanted to learn it for granular synth type stuff, but now, it seems there is no end for possibilities. I would love to see a video on controlling PD with OSC. That would help a ton.
Don't listen to the detractors, awesome tutorials!
There is an art institution that charges for an intro course for $50, then it goes on to specializing in Audio $120, Visual $120. I would recommend to anyone to start with these and search youtube for more, why spend the money?

All that work for something so lame. This is called taking the extended scenic route to make music. You really have to enjoy coding almost by hand or near it, to want to get such little results. You can wash a school bus with a tooth brush to get it clean, but it's gonna take you forever and then some. That's what this program is like. I think it's better utilized for video, not audio.
I prefer the analogy of buying a car with the hood welded shut with regards to using Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, et al.
It helps to know the basics so you can sync audio events to visual elements or I/O to all sorts of hardware that normally would ever be used for such purposes. (Ie: Drawing Tablets, Lighting, Joysticks, etc)
Perhaps you need to search "pure data pd" and hit search by ratings to know what I mean.
Dude - it's not a sequencer. I think it was originally made to teach DSP in the first place anyway. Writing music in this is more of an intellectual exercise than something useful. It seems to be decent for hardware installations though... I'll have to try cutting up video in it some time, that always looked kinda neat.
@AlphaJunoOne It's not a music making application, it has application in many fields. It's a graphical programming language not a sequencer or synth. Do a bit of research.
It's just an object box like everything else, not a number box, I should've clarified that. So just make it the same way ya made the osc box earlier. :)
I read a lot of obiwannabe's tutorials and smashed my head in to the keyboard while reading through the documentation. Kinda sucks since you really don't need a PHD to use it.
When i make an different input for the message box it sounds like the program kept the former input (like it is stored somewhere) because it first plays that old notes and afterwards the changed input.
my table will not work. Object box table name, how long. message box table name, start value, numbers. ctrl e click on message box. object box tabread name. did i miss something?
In your main window, try going to media > audio settings and bring up your buffer. I had issues trying to use ASIO via portaudio, so you might have better luck using mmo.
Hi, I was wondering in reference to the tables...I have a text file with 6710 values and needless to say, copying and pasting goes very slowly. Is there any way to get pd to just read a table from a txt file?
you go way hella fast. i end up pausing the vid every 10 seconds to digest wtf you just said. That stated, thanks for the great tutes. I'd hug you if you were a human.
I'm a puredata n00b. Your videos have helped me in not being totally discouraged and simply uninstalling the program, but I'm wondering where I can find a thorough instruction guide or tutorial or something of the sort. How did you learn?
dac is Digital to Analog Converter (actually I think it might be controller, but what the hell. ) If you want to record something from a mice you use an adc (analog to digital controller... or converter. )
Sure a controller and a converter are separate things from the engineering point of view, but yeah, who cares. This tutorial is great for beginners (including me).
Dunno. O.O I've never used it myself. You can get on there at lists dot puredata dot info/listinfo/pd-list Ask it on the PD list - I'm sure someone on there will know. :)
Sounds you got delay on your mic. It's so... Hypnotic.

Hello Vreahli,
When i make an different input for the message box it sounds like the program kept the former input (like it is stored somewhere) because it first plays that old notes and afterwards the changed input.
I have now:
; [enter] sticky 2 7 1 3 5 6 9 8 12 10 11
but it keeps playing the former input.
What do I miss?
Thanks in advance!
ArnoldVeeman 2 years ago
I think what you want is
; [enter] sticky 0 2 7 1 3 5 6 9 8 12 10 11
The zero I added tells it to start writing the array to the first position (0). The first number will tell it where to write in the array.
vreahli 2 years ago
Ah, yep, it works now. Thanks again!

Hi, I was wondering in reference to the tables...I have a text file with 6710 values and needless to say, copying and pasting goes very slowly. Is there any way to get pd to just read a table from a txt file?
pinciata2 3 years ago
Sure - it's pretty easy.
Make a table.
[table array99]
Make a message box...
;
array99 read filename.txt
And click it. That should load the file.
You might want to check out the help file 2.control.examples/15.array.pd since it has an example of just what you're trying to do.
