@KOTHVETTE406 Calm down. You're pushing elitism much too far. Alright you like Shawn Lane, me too, but you seem to be hating on buckethead only to look interesting and rebel. It's being rebel against the underground that is already rebel against mainstream music. It's as idiot as that. Buckethead and Shawn Lane are both great artists, you're creating a rivality that has no meaning. There's no snub at their level, not anymore.
NOT ONLY WAS LANE A VERY CLOSE AND GUITAR SHREDDING FRIEND, HE WAS A TRUE VOODOO CHILE! ERIC JOHNSON EVEN CAME BY HIS HOUSE AND TOOK LESSONS, I KNOW, I WAS THERE, AND KEVIN WILLIAMS WAS THERE WITH ME THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM ALIVE. Johnny Fortune & Pebber Brown were two of BH's main guitar teachers., I suppose later on BH took lessons from both Lane and Gilbert.. BH is also very satriani influenced..
when he shreds like that i just think of it like coltrane's waves of sounds. its not about each separate it's about the arcs they create. but of course every note he chose was golden
At 2:38 when he says "Shawn Lane began to howl!" I'm saddened over the fact that Shawn was taken away from us so early, but then happy when I realize how much of a wonderful and caring person he was, and how much he contributed to this world of ours. God bless you, Shawn. R.I.P.
@emperorof420 randy rhoads was pretty fast with a les paul... and the ever so over rated zakk wydle doesnt have problems navigating through some fast licks on it. But fuck speed... no one can be as fast as shawn lane.
He can play a hendrix tune like the master himself but in order to be great yu have to have yur own riff's and tunes, maybe i'm takin otta line this is the first time i've bin to his site, or watched him play
This actually isn't the best performance of this song Shawn ever did. He usually didn't play a Les Paul and was probably borrowing the guitar from someone (which makes it even more impressive). However, I Shawn and The Willy's play this song one night at Alfred's on Beale Street and literally I thought his guitar was going to catch on fire, it was surreal. This isn't even his normal tone, it's much more harsh than his tone. Still great, but not the best.
Absolutely incredible, one of my favs. 3:10 - 3:27 so good, ofcourse out solo is all there. the MAN, Shawn. im nodding my head as i write this, i have not been influenced by anyone in a long time, Shawn makes me play more, he makes me want to play better, he also reminds me to appreciate this life. He took what little time he had and absolutely surpassed many of the guitarists/musicians of this lifetime in terms of really reaching that point of true expression, like Coltrane in a way. way ahead.
I have always said if you play Hendrix songs , Either play them note for note or some deranged way make them your own and Shawn does what i great version , i think its my favorite out there ,, RIP Shawn We Miss YOU !
Wow, i bet he goes about 333lbs in this performance --- thats ok though, he still kis an outstanding horn player ---- his piano skills have diminished somewhat over the last few bowls of Cheerios but god rest his soul. the man knows how to eat like a pig !
I love how shawn pays his respects and homage to Jimi by playing jimi's original solo parts before taking it into the stratosphere with his own shredding, this kind of respect is lost by most young guitarists...
@bimwopbarn yeah , i loved how he played the solo, he didnt miss a note , then he did his own awesome stuff, for me ..missing jimis solo would ruin the song , maybe shawn knew that
@TheRattlehead92 Hes well practiced in good technique and very co-ordinated, very mathematically minded and thats his art. I'm a tall and lanky and no matter how much I practiced I will never get near that, and I do practise a bit but I have a different sound that I enjoy, every one at their peak will have a different sound, thats the beauty.
