english is not my first language, i dont undertood what he said at the final of the video, the machine "...looks almost like a big piece of..."???? i understand julge....
Even vegans can't complain about this, if all they need is a few cells from the animals, I doubt that would hurt the animal much and it wouldn't be killing the animal because the meat technically would have never been alive.
Design Contest? More like Sculpture Contest... without knowing how the technology will work and how big it will be, restraints and such, designing a "house" for that technology is a waste of time if considered anything but art (yes it's pretty). Talking of "science" without mentioning science fiction makes it sound like you are trying to give this contest credientials it doesn't deserve. Take something that already exists and house it in a beautiful, functional design... then I'll be impressed.
the brief was to provide designs looking up to 90 years into the future - although the electrolux jury member doesn't explain it well in this video, this type 'in vitro' method of growing tissue from stem cells is already under development and will definitely be widely available within that time. the concept is both visionary and feasible - check the electrolux design lab website if you want more details on the design...
I'm gonna grow vaginas and sell them on the corner in my soon to be opened vagina stand. I'll engineer some tits too but you gotta figure out a way to put a skin on them yourself. Garbage bag maybe?
No. And if you had any grasp of how anatomy works, you'd realize that there is no full nervous system being grown. The dude is just keeping it simple and skipping over the cellular division part of growth and calling it just "science" for your benefit.
science? it uses science? doesn't everything technically utilize science? how about talking about the groundbreaking technology behind this versus which colors it will come in?

It utilizes "science"... whoah!
One clever dude designed this, using science!
"So NASA, can you explain how you landed a man on the moon?"
"We used science!"

So would this make all the dumb ass animal rights activists shut up since no animals would be harmed in the making of your steak?
Yerzriknot 2 years ago
Probably - Shame it wouldn't make dumb assholes like you shut up, though.

Could you use human cells, and "grow" your own human meat? Legal cannibalism!
OneManDamned 2 years ago 2
actually, its not a microwave concept at all - it is for producing 'raw' meat/fish, which you then cook however you want with other appliances.
TheTubeCL 2 years ago
If the substance is being heated, wouldn't the growth of said meat be "cooked"?
bowsa 2 years ago
I would venture to guess that the risk of salmonella/food poisoning would disappear with this technology..
So would you even need to cook the food?
