Science is a closed system in which you cannot get any "paper" through the system that is not peer reviewed. There is one problem if the peers are all "believers" and their jobs are at stake if they allow any evidence proveing otherwise the popular science. It is a bad system for free thinkers.

If they can come up with evidence falsifying evolution, or any other scientific theory for that matter they gain tremendous prestige. It's a bad system for woolly thinkers.

Not really. The facts are in, and the evidence for evolution of any creature, much less human evolution from some mystical creature is extremely thin, like crust ice on the lake on a 90 degree F day.

The evidence for evolution is overwhelming Good, it's even been observed as it happened, just Google "lenski citrate newscientist". Let me know if you ever manage to falsify evolution.

Add to that the normal fears of fitting in

that young impressionable college kids

have and fear of looking or sounding diffrent from the others and the proffesors knowledge of psychology and history of cult leaders power over large groups and you have a perfect incubator for cult of scientism.

I have fun making my biology professors scratch their heads in front of the class when I ask them simple questions about what they are teaching.. Sometimes they get pissed, like in your face pissed, and say stuff like "ID is recycled creationism".. of course thats not necessarily true, it is also not terribly mind provoking which does expound on the amount of intelligible capacity required to teach at a college.
