This video messed with my head when I finally got around to watching Northanger Abbey. I couldn't get the idea of out my head that they were actually Fee and Pip. Very well made, the clips worked great. I was a bit turned off the song at first (very modern) but it actually worked pretty well. Thanks for making it.
Wow, even after that one meeting in the Winterlands, where Pippa grabs the girl and smooches her for all to see, people still didn't catch on? Hm.
Me, I also saw it in the first installment of the trilogy; Felicity outright claims Sapphists to be disgusting and foul, which hints towards her secret, whereas Pippa doesn't seem bothered, indicating that she is possibly one.
Also, it shows in the fact that, no matter how nicely their suitors treated them, or how handsome, they refused them.
I love this video!! I read the description, and I found your interpretation of Felicity and Pippa's relation interesting. I do agree that Pippa was definitely manipulating Felicity, but my interpretation was that a part of Pippa did love Felicity. Honestly, I'd never even thought of the possibility of Pippa being bisexual. I always assumed that she had only been with the knight before because she hadn't yet discovered her sexuality. Of course, I could be wrong :)
I knew from the start they had a thing and i cried in the thrid book when Fee said it because Pippa was trapped in the realms and dead to the real world then she dies in the realms i am about to cry now!! I loved that they were in love it is really cute!! I love the T.A.T.U song also it sums up the love between them!!
I wasn't surprised by this twist in the book's plot either, but you've done an awesome job illustrating the relationship in a tatseful and effective mannor. I thunk your videos are fantastic
I actually saw it coming in A Great and Terrible Beauty. The "sapphists" coversation, Felicity licking Ann's cheek, almost kissing Gemma...I was waiting for Libba to out Fee for the longest. I'm suprised more people didn't see it.
i just finish reading the book a great and terrible thing man i didnt want to finish it but i want to read the other two books rebel angels and sweet far thing an aewsone boook terribly good
CHARLES STURRIDGE is making this film! I think he is perfect for this therfore I'm excited like crazy. HE made the movie Fairy Tale: A True Story and if you haven't seen that film SEE IT NOW because once you see the beauty of it YOU WILL UNDERSTAND why he is the perfect man for this ghost/love story ^_^
I like to think that the majority of fans who are attracted to these books are open-minded, intelligent and accepting people but I've come to find out that especially on open forums like Youtube, this is often a place where bigotry strikes. Get a few trolls who happen to stumble upon this video posting inflammatory remarks and the whole thing gets very ugly. And that's just senseless and unnecessary. People's sexuality is their own business. Personal attacks are cowardly and reprehensible.
Yes they are making a movie :) But at the moment it is not scheduled to be released until 2010. They announced it back in 2006 I believe. They should start filming soon.
Oh my god, I LOVE THIS! I never suspected their relationship, so when it came out I was completely shocked, but later I found it kind of heartbreakingly lovely, like this video :)
Ok, I am now officially confused... In AGTB Felicity states that she will be with many men, except Admirals - obviously because of her father - but you're suggesting that she is lesbian?! I just started the Sweet Far Thing so i have not read that part yet, but I am now REALLY confused...
I would advise that you finish TSFT first--if you are still confused after, there is an entry in the archives of Libba's livejournal from last January. There were a lot of questions about the book, and she answered several of them in two posts. I believe the second post explains a bit about Fee.
(Sorry, should have thought to add this the first time I posted.)
Something else I've noticed...Carey Mulligan has been used as both Fee and Ann, and she certainly looks like Fee in this video, but to me she looks sort of like a young Sarah Rees-Toome. There's just something about her face that really fits my mental image.
To some extent, I saw Fee and Pip coming. I always thought Felicity seemed to feel that way about Pippa, but I never guessed that Pip had even the faintest clue about it or any of the same feelings. That was the part that caught me off guard the most.
I knew that Felicity was going to be a lesbian from the start because of the "sappho" comment. I whooped when they finally kissed in the last book even though it was sad. Great video, great way to capture the essence of both characters. I hope they make a movie of the Gemma Doyle trilogy soon
Thank you so much for all your efforts, they're really appreciated!
This song fits Fee and Pip perfectly; their relationship, the trials, and Felicity's inability to let go of her more-than-friend.
Libba Bray did such a wonderful job with her character development... amazing. My favorite character in the book is actually Miss McCleethy. It seems as though there aren't any tributes to her on YouTube, sadly. =[ I find her a truly compelling character.
Thank you! I enjoyed making it =]. Plus, it doesn't hurt that those two girls are now my top favorite actresses for Felicity & Pippa. Northanger Abbey was an excellent miniseries adaptation and the clips just seemed to fit together.
I don't think I've seen you around before but I've got a bunch of AGATB vids on this account and my Gemini12590 one: no Miss. C but plenty of others. There are also vids about other books that I've been temporarily obsessed with.
Yeah, I've watched and favorited just about all of your AGATB videos, heehee.
I'm one of those users who doesn't have the right shtuff to make videos so just watches them instead. But yeah, by far you're my favorite when it comes to AGATB videos. I just finished the book today on my way to voice lesson. Ah, the sadness.
And you're point is? It's very obvious to anyone paying attention that the blonde girl is supposed to be Felicity and the brunette, Pippa. Therefore, that comment made no sense.
well to me it looks like in your video the brown haired girl looks like Felicity and the blond one looks like Pippa. Anyways you don't have to be mean about it :P
I'm not mean about anything. I was genuinely confused by that statement since no one else ever confused the characters before. The vivacious, provocative and manipulative blonde in the video is supposed to match the blonde in the book. The innocent-looking brunette matches the one the book. I did state this was before TSFT and most people got it. Therefore I figured it was obvious and that you just hadn't paid attention/read my video info.
I rewatched the video and while I confess I still don't see any reason for confusion I feel constrained to note, as someone who is not a subscriber nor friend, that you probably don't know I've had trouble with trolls in the past both here and on my Gemini account. And one of the # questions they ask is "which one is which? I don't get it." Obviously they understand perfectly and are just trying to piss me off. Therefore I get touchy with certain questions as I never know if that troll is back.
I just love your video! It's one of the best Pippa/Felicity ones I've seen. Northanger Abbey(2008) really did remind me of them! And the song worked really well with the images. Amazing job. Poor Felicity...
I've heard this song before, and I really liked it! Also, Northanger Abbey (2008 version) is really well-adapted, and it is one of my favorite TV adaptations of the novel! I am very glad you used clips from Northanger Abbey. I suspected that Felicity was lesbian when her and Pippa's friendship seemed a little bit...close, which was way back into AGTB. Make more videos! Please, with a cherry on top? (laughs)
I saw it coming too. I don't remember when, but at some point while reading the first book I thought of Felicity as gay. The only reason I know is because I wrote a fanfic about it, and remember being directly inspired by some scene or another. Maybe LGBT people would see the clues first, though? Felicity's comments in the third book are pretty common and explicit to anyone who has gone through the coming out process...
I just finished TSFT and i reaad all three in like 4 days because i loved the series. And i totally saw the Pippa/Fee thing coming i new fee and pip just seemed too close. idk i saw it in like the first book i honestly thought it would've happened sooner. :/
ok i just read the first book, and somehow i imagined fee with STRAIGHT blonde hair...i dunno i just somehow pictured it and kind of downs me when i see her with curlz :(
That doesn't make sense lol. All we know is that her hair is pale blonde ha ha. It downs you when you see her with curls? LOL but sorry that bit made me laugh!
[MissD's other account] To each his/her own I guess, right Grace? I've learned to accept that some people have very precise mental images of the characters... it's just a pity that the movie casting probably isn't going to be able to encompass them all.
But at least she recognized the characters, unlike a recent poster who confused Fee for Pip despite the fact that they match their descriptions & then yelled at me for being mean when I corrected her with genuine, though blunt, suprise.
I didn't know that Pippa used Felicity... And think how awful that must be for Fee, that the man who raped her is her beloved father, and it must be doubly damning due to the fact that she is a homosexual! Poor, poor girl.
I just finished reading TSFT and I was disappointed about the ending -_- (with Kartik dying and Pippa becoming part of the Winterlands, then crushed and stuff...yea)
Did you read my video information? (don't take offense - trust me, people ask this question all the time): [Clips taken from the 2007 ITV miniseries "Northanger Abbey" directed by Andrew Davies and starring Felicity Jones and Carey Mulligan.] I always cite everything in my video information.
I love that you did a video on this, since it was such a big part of TSFT. I still kinda can't believe it, though. But either way, this was great. I understood it, and your music selection fit the theme. You're really good.
I suspected that Felicity & Pippa had a realtionship, but it was a very small hunch. So when Pippa kissed Felicity (or was it the other way around? I can't remember.)I was very shocked and happy, happy because I was right and it's rare that my suspicions come true. Fantastic video!! Great eiditing! 5 stars!
Hey, I just thought of something else: Not only do our vids both have songs by T.A.T.U., and are about Fee and Pip, but yours is sort of from Felicity's perspective, whereas mine is more from Pippa's POV. Cool, eh?
I first fell in love with "All About Us" when I heard it on a brilliant "Interview with the Vampire" AMV. What a haunting, beautiful song! It's not the kind of music you hear everyday. And I suppose it would make sense for me to take the story from Felicity's perspective, since I am a bit biased in her favor...lol ;D
It was just a comment, to simplify understanding for people who barely read my info as it is and prevent homophobes from spamming this video with nasty remakrs. I didn't have time to delve into deep character analysis (is she really attracted to men or just using them to cover up her sexuality)- don't take it literally.
I don't think so. I think Ithal was just a...conquest. Because, wasn't at one point courting Simon too? Or were they just friends? I'm all confused. Anyway, SQUEE! Lovelovelove Fee and Pippa. :) I felt SO bad for Felicity at the end of TSFT. She lost Pippa twice, that must be damn hard.
I felt the whole situation was ambiguous. During the first book, she seems kind of promiscuous not just with Ithal but in her manner of talking in the caves about how many men she wants to have, her provocative way of dressing: she seems very knowledgeable about all things sexual, including Sapphists. Oh crap - was that supposed to be a clue? OMG! I totally missed that in AGATB and just realized it now...lol. Anyway... the whole twist hit me as a curveball. I didn't see it coming.
You know what I'm going to say, but I'll just repeat myself anyways: AMAZING! The clips are perfectly matched with the music, and I agree with you when you say that Felicity's emotions are implied nicely without being too open and forward. Beautiful work! <3
Video is well put together, but I admit that I was disappointed by the sub-plot.Not because I'm homophobic--I'm not-but ONLY cuz I thought it wasn't necessary to the story & ruined the fact 2 girls can be such utterly good friends--like sisters-- but it still be innocent. When they were just friends it was really cool! I feel that my best-friend-forever and I are that close, but there's nothing sexual about it. I identified with Pip and Felicity's FRIENDSHIP -- that is, until... it got ruined.
Strangely enough, the more I see of Carey Mulligan, the more I like the idea of her as Felicity. Of course I love Romola Garai but (despite her being too old) I'm just finding Carey to resemble Fee a bit better. Just watch her in Northanger Abbey - she plays charming, coy and manipulative so well as well as being very pretty with a mischevious twinkle in the eye and a devious smile. I'm not quite sure how old she is but NA wasn't made too long ago.
I really really loved this vid. I finished TSFT like two days ago - and I have to say, this caught me extremely off-guard. But your vids are always amazing. <3 Great job! (I made one of these - but mine doesn't even come close to yours.)
Wow...awesome video! I'm glad you decided to tackle this concept, since you're right: it's a big part of the book. You did a great job of piecing the clips together, and I appluad you for doing it tastefully. I really hadn't seen this coming in the book!
Well, amazing job and please continue making these videos! They always make my day significantly happier. :)
Yaay! First comment! I <3 u, Gem! SO cool that you did this along with my [rather primitive] piece. Hopefully, they'll post a link to this from mine to yours (mostly 'cause there IS a link to mine, but where I don't know).
There was more tension between these two girls than I realized! It was actually believable, wasn't it? :D.If you would like, you can post your video as a response, this way when/if people come on this page, they'll see your video in a box right below and click on it too! :)

Who did you use as Pippa?

Both of the female stars of Northanger Abbey are listed in my About This Video information, as they always are.

Oh, I hadn't seen that -- thanks!

This was absolutely wonderful- you really captured the fact that they were good friends but there were something else there. Excellent:)

amazing! you linked the scenes together so well, so that you can obviusly see the feelings between them, but as you said, it is done tastefully =)
the cast was good too, 'Pippa' was really beautiful, and I loved your 'Fee' too, a very well chosen miniseries to use =)
five stars!

I really really loved this vid. I finished TSFT like two days ago - and I have to say, this caught me extremely off-guard. But your vids are always amazing. <3 Great job! (I made one of these - but mine doesn't even come close to yours.)

Caught me off guard, too :). Though I guess, looking back, the signs were always kind of there. I just always assumed they were really good friends.
