@roquefort88888 Ahh, thank you so much for your advice! I probably needed to hear it because I definitely don't always follow through with things. Thank you for the encouragement as well. I'll let you know how it goes!
@roquefort88888 I understand, it doesn't seem right, but I kind of trust that they have their reasons. I applied for a scholarship 4 days ago and I heard from them 2 days later accepting me into the program for free. It was a super easy process too. Had to email a brief explanation of why I needed financial assistance. I start August, super excited.
@roquefort88888 But you said you've found the technique to be very beneficial. Is the technique more powerful than free meditation techniques? If not I'd be willing to be.
I think it was 1973 or 1974 that I had the great honor to be initiated into TM by you, my best friend, Earl Shepard. it was an experience that I will never forget. I still meditate from time to time and the mantra that was given me is imprinted in my heart, soul and mind. I still have the gift that you sent to me via a mutual friend, (the actor, director, Bill Duke), that was also in Ethiopa to become a TM teacher, (unknown to me). I am so proud to be your friend. Peace and Love. Richard
Been doing mantra meditation from tapes. Feel incredible. This stuff really works. Everyone should try it but there's no need to pay all that money for TM.
Not all meditations produce the same results, that is clear from the comparative research. So while you may get something out of tapes (everything has an effect of some kind), you really don't know what you are missing from TM. Which would you rather develop, partial brain functioning or Total Brain Functioning? Why settle for less than the best? Go to doctorsontm dot org and look in the middle column for the answer to this Q: "What's the difference between TM and other forms of meditation?"
i do agree in some aspects i dont think it should cost so much when it is supposed to better our lives. bettering our lives should be free to all. that was the only thing suss i thought, you must attend the school, you must pay the money...i get it though. people save up money and GIVE something and therefore mentally expect more back and give more into it.
any meditation yields positive effects for those who practice it and many are free to learn. do not be fooled by the "secret scientific knowledge" that TM claims to have. Meditation of any kind brings similar effect, and if this is what works for you them keep it up.. but the more involved one becomes in the movement, the deeper into the cult you will find yourself, and the harder it is to get out. A Meditation practice should not run your life.
Sorry, credible independent research now shows that different meditation produces different results, and TM has been found to be substantially more effective and beneficial by comparison than every other type of meditation and self-improvement technique studied. It's all about getting measurable results: Better health, physical and mental. And it isn't "secret scientific knowledge." It's in the peer-reviewed scientific journals for all to scrutinize. I invite you to read them.
I don't want to be offensive in any way, but Maharishi himself was not an example of perfect health. His astmathic coughs were neatly cut out of the sound tape on his video's, and here in Holland,he was hospitalised just prior to his death. If you have all that meditation experience,Ayurvedic staff and so on, why then die yourself out of old age and disease? it doesn't make any sense to me.
Good question. 3 possible reasons: his past karma wouldn't allow any better health; the present age allows only about 100 years; he had taken on the karma of the world during those 53 years of work in the world, doing things you may not image a human could do, all for the sake of the future of human life. That took a toll he accepted. Be glad he did, the world would be ash now if he hadn't done something. Maybe hard to understand, but true. He may have left much sooner without all that help.
The Bible says death is inevitable for human being, because of original sin. It was God's decision that man should die after he was casted out of the Paradise, the Garden of Eden. The devil had lured man into believing that he could be equal to God, just by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of Knowledge, then man ate the forbidden fruit after that he fell from Grace. Jesus Christ came to save mankind from this original sin, by dying on the Cross and giving His Blood to redeem mankind.
Dear Hans You would be a tad ill. (dead). if someone dosed you with the amount of poison that Maharishi was back in the 90's. The same was done to his teacher before him and to several other great souls of great wisdom or popularity and power.
for example check out jet li's great work "fearless". there's a start for you. There is also the issue of Masters taking on any disciples karma
if this style of meditation (using mantras) works for you, then thats great and keep it up. but if your life gets to the point where all of your decisions are determined by what the "movement" says to do or not do, then you should be very careful. don't be fooled by the idea of learning more "advanced knowledge" to bring you to higher states of consciousness for "a nominal fee." this is not plenary indulgences. you cannot buy your way to a better life.
The vast majority of TM practitioners just go about their lives enjoying more and don't have any contact with the "movement:" They have something they find useful. So why would "advanced knowledge" not be any more useful? How are you qualified to say that the far reaching effects of advanced knowledge is not useful? It's like an apprentice dismissing the expertise of the master architect. If you don't know, that's OK, but don't say it isn't true. It's foolish to judge without having been there.
I don't doubt there are more powerful levels that TM teaches but why does it cost so much. Why don't they just sell it in a book if they want people to learn it.
The pricing structure of course fees was entirely set by Maharishi. Now the responsibility for running the organization comes to others so there may be some changes. I've met many who have tried to learn from other means, and they have ALL stopped practicing. There is real value in learning from a human rather than trying to extract from a book. The knowledge in books stays in books. Also, the fee is partly a donation to help spread the teaching to countries that can't afford much. Good karma.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Meditation is great and really helps the person practicing it, but the reason TM effects so many areas of your life is because TM eventually aims to CONTROL all of those areas of your life. those involved in this movement are part of a cult lifestyle becaase TM at the heart is a CULT which tricks people into believing that world peace may be attained by giving them money.
You say meditation is "great" and helps so many areas of life, then you imply that it is bad to build a lifestyle around it. Better to go at your own pace, use what you wish to use, and don't judge what others find useful. Building a lifestyle around what is useful is not a bad thing. And nobody says world peace comes by paying money. It's by utilizing the knowledge--the techniques--that brings results. Those who experience this know the power of it, and they are the ones who want to spread it.
I gotta ditto those comments! TM woke me up to LIFE like nothing else. You can't really know the world outside until you experience your inner BEING. Your real SELF. Inner wakefulness, profound peace. TM gets you there fast and makes it grow in life to fullness. Don't waste time on cheap meditation techniques, TM is the best, a bargain at any price.
You're right, it was a bargain. But why is it theft now? Is it theft to pay for knowledge that lasts a lifetime that you can use to significantly improve life, but not theft for a plasma TV at around the same price that becomes obsolete and useless within a few years? Maybe you are not realizing the true potential of the knowledge. Or you might overvalue that plasma TV. Look at all the money spent on stuff that doesn't last, and gives only fleeting pleasures that often turn to sorrows.
I paid that for the entire TM and sidhi programme with residential rounding course. I remember the time when Maharishi really didn't want to ask any money for initiation. Now a movement with expensive buildings and profiteers. Maybe it has to do with the fact that i don't appreciate TM practice anymore.
