Very good monitor apart from the contrast 20,000, 50-70k would be nice, My Samsung TV/monitor isn't 1920x1200 Its only 1080, but it does have better contrast (50,000/1).
This monitor doesn't have speakers, or hdmi audio out, so what i wondering is how can people be playing ps3 etc with no sound. can you hook external speakers up to this?

After a while the monitor eventually goes into STANDBY MODE, what is indication to me that the monitor thinks that the graphic adapter does not feed it with any signal.
The fact that the monitor goes into standby mode, the mode normally entered when the computer is turned off (i.e. when graphic adapter is off), tells me that the problem seems to be SYNCHRONIZATION of the monitor with the graphic adapter.
Therefore after experimenting I have noticed that if I put the graphic ADAPTER itself into the standby mode (i.e. "Power Options Properties" window in "Display Properties" in Windows XP) to turn off the adapter after a couple of minutes of INACTIVITY the monitor will synchronize when the adapter is turned on again (e.g. by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard).
IMPORTANT: in this case the monitor has to be turned on FIRST i.e. BEFORE the adapter is woken up by moving the mouse.
The problem with temporary solution 1 is that we have to wait (long) in order for the adapter to turn off by the Windows so that we can turn the monitor on again.
One might consider changing the inactivity interval. However changing the time interval (e.g. to one minute) might be unacceptable (in that case if we for example read a document and do not move the mouse for a minute the monitor goes off frequently).
Therefore in this solution one might install an application (widget) that turns off the adapter by command from the keyboard (instead automatically by the inactivity from user as in the previous solution).
There is one such little, tiny application. It is called "Monitor Standby" by Gustavo Ruiz Bo. It is a WIDGET for Yahoo Widgets.

this thing is a beast ...i got mine almost a year ago....and it is fuckin SICK!!!.....i have both the ps3 and the 360 and let me tell you...holy shit....beautifully crisp insanely vivid pic..(so vivid it hurts ur eyes at times)....and on the plus side its super affordable....i got mine for 500 and now its like 350 i think..my brother in law has a 5 grand sony hdtv and the pic i get with my samsung is somehow better....if your a gamer....than this monitor is for you...no tv tuner..but hey fuck it
I was going to get that to match my HP computer, but the Samsung T240's specs are higher, and it's way cheaper. I did a side by side comparison (at BestBuy) and the Samsung T240 is the way to go. Deeper blacks and brighter whites. No glare on the Samsung as well. The HP is still really nice though.
Yeah, you can watch Blu Rays by connecting the Blu Ray player/Playstation 3 with component cables. Your monitor has the RGB (Red Green Blue) input that supports 1080i High Definition. It looks just as good.

The T240HD doubles as an HDTV. It includes component inputs as well as antenna in (tv/cable in). The standard T240 lacks the component and tv/cable in inputs.
Mine doesnt. I got it at launch. Now im on my 4th xbox but they gave me a core when the preiums started to roll out with hdmi. Microsoft didnt want to give me a port since i didnt pay for 1 lol

MultiScreen lets you see multiple desktop within the same screen. 4 to be exact with the T240. My boss has a iMAC 24" and it has this kind of software. It is pretty sweet. It is like having 4 12" laptop screen in 1 big screen!

ive seen them all on a xbox wtih hdmi running gta 4 and the t240 series was clearly the best , and the input lag is bs also , i tested it with my pc , and with my xbox with cod4 gears of war 2 , gta 4 , and fallout 3 , i have no input lag , and they didnt in the store either , maybe a few have it or it was with the first ones idk , but i dont have it and it owns any other 24 inch full hd lcd screen/tv , and it s half the price of those ultra sharp dells!

I just bought the T260 today for my computer. I'm using a Mac G5 PCC 2.0 dual core. I'm hooked up via DVI. The picture is there (1900X1200), but the menu buttons on the side of the monitor seem to be disabled. I press them... and no menus appear onscreen. Also the picture, from top to bottom, shades darker to lighter. My old 19" Syncmaster didn't have this issue. It was the same across the screen from any angle. I'm not a video expert. Anyone know what's up with all this? Thanks!
i believe so ... i heard somewhere that another feature is being able to switch really fast from say your 360/pc. So yea you can have them both in at once.
It's weird that TigerTV says that the T240 is great for playing games on and that Cnet (watch?v=7zuCCaQorfs) says the T240HD (same display as the T240 but with integrated speakers and the tv-tuner) is not that great for games saying that the display has "a low brightness" and that "the color reproduction in games is unimpressive".
Now which of these reviewers is telling the truth?

Hadn't noticed that... Yep, that must be the reason why. It's a shame because I wanted to buy the T240HD because it has good connectivity options for older game consoles like the PS2 and Gamecube. The T240 has a brighter display but lacks a scart and RCA-connectors for audio and video :(

eeeehm contrast ratio has nothing to do with brightness? contrast ratio just makes black more black and red more red etc , theres no way thats the reason why , and the t240 is exactly the same (trust me ive seen them next to eachother,no diffenrece at all and i didnt notice that brihgtness isseu at all when i was seeing them up close in the store,it looks great), only for the contrast ratio (who needs 20 000 anywayz,u ll not notice any difference on a console).

How can you be sure that the settings of both display have been properly adjusted according to there maximum specs and performance?
yes ive seen them next to eachother,cuz it s very easy and fast to set these ones up with the remote so they set it up the same way for me and some guy at the store hooked it up on the pc there with vg a connection and showed me and it had no difference whatso ever and it looked really good,but i m still sceptical about it so if it s not what i want i can return it in 8 days,but i doubt i wont like it tho!
Found out that the T240 and the T240HD both suffer from a hefty input lag. That would make these display's less suitable for games indeed. I'm not saying it's they are bad, but for games the Samsung 2493HM would be a much better choice it seems. This model has a very low input lag, better color accuracy, higher brightness and a finer dot pitch. And that for only couple of Euro's more! I've made up my mind :) I'll have to find a different solution for hooking up my older game consoles though...
older versions of the t series have a little input lag maybe,but i havent noticed any in the store,but i will check it out cuz i can return it if i m not happy with it,but the brightness and all is quite the same as on the screen ur refering to i read,the only big difference is that it has no tv tuner and it hasnt got 1:1 mapping , so basicly it stretches the screen a bit to put it in 1900x1200 instead of 1900x1080 wich the consoles use.
I have only seen the HD version first hand. I barely scratched the surface in regards to tweaking the refresh rate HZ, resolution, etc. About all I did was adjust the various modes of brightness, "internet" "enterntainment", "custom", etc.
It IS a great gaming monitor. I suspect the CNET guy did not use the Sub D connector and used the lousy VGA connector. I was really impressed with the image quality. I tested Battlefield 2 on highest quality, running a 8800GT video card. It was beautiful. I just plugged it in and played, didn't install anything. Super simple.
I haven't tried hooking up my computer to the VGA connection. My video card only had 2 DVI connectors, but I have a DVI to VGA adaptor and I will have to give that a shot. I was talking to my newphew tonight and he meantioned his Xbox 360 didn't come with a HDMI connector, which I thought was odd since it's quickly becoming a standard. I think he said the newer 360's have them though.

But you are gonna have some trouble calibrating the monitor, it takes time but its worth it ;)

Dynamic Contrast doens't actually tell about the image quality and "clear" image.
It all depends on the panel.. This one is TN panel.. The worst panel.. But T240 is one of the best with TN panel..
I'm gonna own this monitor moday. I didn't buy it after watching this review.. Seriously.. TiigerDerect's reviews suck. They only read the specs up ;o

No, you need an HDMI cable to play xbox 360 in HD. The 360 resolution will be like 1920 x 1080.

This video actually comes with a little hint of red at the bottom; it's actually kinda nice.

Mine doesnt. I got it at launch. Now im on my 4th xbox but they gave me a core when the preiums started to roll out with hdmi. Microsoft didnt want to give me a port since i didnt pay for 1 lol

im having serius problems with this monitor.
i've instaled all programs for it and first i was getin flickers on screen and everytime i start windows xp it shows message this pc dont support magic color(yeah,right),and photoshop warns me everytime that monitor is defective and some shit with other program natural color,wtf!!!if someone encourted this please help me how to solve this coz now sometime windows wont start.
but beyond this,it is great monitor for games.

well , then tell me , why isnt there anything about 1:1 mapping on the specs of the screen , and didnt the shop i bot mine get it to 1:1 mapping , we didnt find any ''just scan'' option !?

MultiScreen lets you see multiple desktop within the same screen. 4 to be exact with the T240. My boss has a iMAC 24" and it has this kind of software. It is pretty sweet. It is like having 4 12" laptop screen in 1 big screen!

ive seen them all on a xbox wtih hdmi running gta 4 and the t240 series was clearly the best , and the input lag is bs also , i tested it with my pc , and with my xbox with cod4 gears of war 2 , gta 4 , and fallout 3 , i have no input lag , and they didnt in the store either , maybe a few have it or it was with the first ones idk , but i dont have it and it owns any other 24 inch full hd lcd screen/tv , and it s half the price of those ultra sharp dells!

no , t240 doesnt have a tv tuner , doesnt have build in speaker i think , i m not sure tho , doesnt have 1 to 1 mapping , and like the other guy says doesnt have a component connection , and about the contrast , for the t240 it s dynamic , and for the t240hd it s static 10000 contrast , ive seen these 2 along side running gta 4 on a xbox with hdmi at mediamarkt(dutch store) and theres no difference , and these are better then even a ultra sharp.

nope, none. It only has DVI, VGA, HDMI. In the back, there's also USB 2.0, USB, and audio. Or something along those lines.

I just bought the T260 today for my computer. I'm using a Mac G5 PCC 2.0 dual core. I'm hooked up via DVI. The picture is there (1900X1200), but the menu buttons on the side of the monitor seem to be disabled. I press them... and no menus appear onscreen. Also the picture, from top to bottom, shades darker to lighter. My old 19" Syncmaster didn't have this issue. It was the same across the screen from any angle. I'm not a video expert. Anyone know what's up with all this? Thanks!

It's weird that TigerTV says that the T240 is great for playing games on and that Cnet (watch?v=7zuCCaQorfs) says the T240HD (same display as the T240 but with integrated speakers and the tv-tuner) is not that great for games saying that the display has "a low brightness" and that "the color reproduction in games is unimpressive".
Now which of these reviewers is telling the truth?

i dont get the negative review , why would this samsung tv/monitor be bad , every samsung lcd is great , so why would this be any different , i bet they havent looked at any options or the disc u get with it for better performance !

the t240hd has a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, the t240 20,000:1 DCR, could it be because of that??

Hadn't noticed that... Yep, that must be the reason why. It's a shame because I wanted to buy the T240HD because it has good connectivity options for older game consoles like the PS2 and Gamecube. The T240 has a brighter display but lacks a scart and RCA-connectors for audio and video :(
Does anyone know how you can hook up a the consoles I mentioned up to a display using either DVI-D or HDMI?

eeeehm contrast ratio has nothing to do with brightness? contrast ratio just makes black more black and red more red etc , theres no way thats the reason why , and the t240 is exactly the same (trust me ive seen them next to eachother,no diffenrece at all and i didnt notice that brihgtness isseu at all when i was seeing them up close in the store,it looks great), only for the contrast ratio (who needs 20 000 anywayz,u ll not notice any difference on a console).

I realize that you're right about the contrast and brightness bit... But have you realy seen a T240 and a T240HD next to eachother with the same game or game demo being played on it? How can you be sure that the settings of both display have been properly adjusted according to there maximum specs and performance?

yes ive seen them next to eachother,cuz it s very easy and fast to set these ones up with the remote so they set it up the same way for me and some guy at the store hooked it up on the pc there with vg a connection and showed me and it had no difference whatso ever and it looked really good,but i m still sceptical about it so if it s not what i want i can return it in 8 days,but i doubt i wont like it tho!

Found out that the T240 and the T240HD both suffer from a hefty input lag. That would make these display's less suitable for games indeed. I'm not saying it's they are bad, but for games the Samsung 2493HM would be a much better choice it seems. This model has a very low input lag, better color accuracy, higher brightness and a finer dot pitch. And that for only couple of Euro's more! I've made up my mind :) I'll have to find a different solution for hooking up my older game consoles though...

older versions of the t series have a little input lag maybe,but i havent noticed any in the store,but i will check it out cuz i can return it if i m not happy with it,but the brightness and all is quite the same as on the screen ur refering to i read,the only big difference is that it has no tv tuner and it hasnt got 1:1 mapping , so basicly it stretches the screen a bit to put it in 1900x1200 instead of 1900x1080 wich the consoles use.

that wasnt the point here , most monitors can switch between 16:10 and 16:9 and the samsung 2493hm cant do that , it can only display full 16:10.

I have only seen the HD version first hand. I barely scratched the surface in regards to tweaking the refresh rate HZ, resolution, etc. About all I did was adjust the various modes of brightness, "internet" "enterntainment", "custom", etc.

It IS a great gaming monitor. I suspect the CNET guy did not use the Sub D connector and used the lousy VGA connector. I was really impressed with the image quality. I tested Battlefield 2 on highest quality, running a 8800GT video card. It was beautiful. I just plugged it in and played, didn't install anything. Super simple.

I haven't tried hooking up my computer to the VGA connection. My video card only had 2 DVI connectors, but I have a DVI to VGA adaptor and I will have to give that a shot. I was talking to my newphew tonight and he meantioned his Xbox 360 didn't come with a HDMI connector, which I thought was odd since it's quickly becoming a standard. I think he said the newer 360's have them though.
