  • Marty I'd truly like to thank you for all you've done for me and all the others who want to learn sweet blues. Just your Youtube videos alone have taught me just as much or even more than my friends who play(who have guitar instructors). • I started because I heard David Gilmour playing the Time solo while I was out the back working out.

Now I'm going to University to play guitar! If someone told me that 3 years ago when I started playing, I would have told them to fuck off.

So, that one guitar solo has changed my life forever!

    Thx Marty....

  • cheers dude that helped

  • I am actually 12 now and i started when i was 11. I've been learning from a teacher at my school, classical guitar. Its mainly finger picking, but now because of you when chords come up, i can switch easily between the two. Great teachermarty, and also, could you do a tutorial for a song called these days by bon jovi.

  • Do you have a Fender Blues Jr amp???

  • we need more people like Marty! MARTY FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  • Oh yeah, I also liked how your hat like majically appeared on your head. You must be a mutant or something. Lol.

  • Thanks for the video. This was burning with inspiration, and gave me more drive to get serious about learning guitar. I've been watching your videos for over a year now, and you have been pretty much my guitar teacher. I annoy my whole family every time I learn a new song and am constantly playing as soon as I get home from school and while watching T.V. I really enjoyed your story if how your skiils have developed. Thanks again for all the videos.

  • this would be really inspiring if you were famous

  • @ixlikexscurvy you don't need to be 'famous' to be inspirational, dumbass

  • @ixlikexscurvy Dude. Look at the amount of views on his vids.

  • @ixlikexscurvy you, sir, are an idiot.

  • PLease post how to play Zion by lauren hill. I cant find it anywhere and ur my fav teacher

  • ... a glimpse inside the mind of the teacher. Thank you for that.

  • I love this dude

  • Sounds very familiar. :) Thanks Marty from all of us less than stellar players!!

  • Been watching your videos for three years I remember sat there at the computer struggling to play C. If it wasn't for you Marty I would not be able play at all. It's crazy to just how much of an impact you have on people's lives. When people ask me about learning guitar Marty Schwartz just springs to mind lol

  • no HAT?

  • i hope you might be able to give me advise on this: ive loved music since i was born... i was whistling before i could speak.(literally) i was singing bobby brown from zappa in my baby stroller. so ive always loved it. but now im almost 19. been playing since i was 13-14 so not that long. my problem is that school has gone to hell. i just fail and fail. and the only thing i might like is marine biology. anyways... im now forced to make a career out of music. any tips? never taken a lesson btw.

  • marty-

you are a good teacher because you keep it simple and fun..I was alot like you but started in the late70's after having a DREAM I was playing guitar..finally bought a takamine ( didn even know hoew to tune it)..and have been learning ever since..but with the internet its much easier..and I have learned some cool stuff watching you..some people can teach and many can't. you are not arrogant and show what you are doing.. so keep up your work - you have a gift...good luck.

  • Marty is the best dude on youtube by far. Good story too. Awesomeness.

  • 14 dislikes cuz he put his hat back on

  • did you study guitar in college or did you just pick up little peices of information from lots of different people?

  • Marty, you rule. Let's flip the script on these fools. Please teach "Woe is Me" by the Walkmen (and then teach more Walkmen songs). That's where it's at right now, my brother. Peace out.

  • 0:30 wow

  • I see now why you always wear a hat.

  • Is august 30th his birthday?

  • Thanks for that marty, I felt the same way 2 about not beeing able to play guitar. I did some of your lessons and i can play 5 songs now after 6 weeks playing. Thanks!

  • Cool afro' Marty!

  • Holy Shhiiiitt!!!!! Marty has hair!

  • great stuff man! really helping me alot. im 19 and its kinda tough to sit down and be dedicated but ur right i never thought id be able to have the ability to play but just wanted to say ur videos really help man.

  • What kind of amp. I know you use a fender mustang but what type M3?

  • BEST GUITAR TEACHER !

  • @jumpmannando marty already has that lesson on youtube

  • Can you make a video on how to play "sitting, waiting, wishing" by Jack Johnson ?

  • Great story! It is ironic how my story and your story are almost identical.

  • @jumpmannando that's not ironic, just coincidental.

  • so you just had a Martin laying around your house?

  • I'm 13 and iv been playing for 3 years and I know a lot of the songs he teaches

  • i bet he got loads of pussy in his college days

  • Great video marty, ive learned alot of my musical abilities from waching your videos, i didn't start playing guitar until i was 13, i got an electric guitar when i was 10 and i wanted to just shred my ass off, in the end i gave up, ive been playing for 3 years and ive been watching your videos for 2 years straight, i too didn't think i had any musical ability, wheres now i look back i wish i had listened to my guitar teacher, but i learnt from that lesson of life, i jam with friends for fun now!

  • Sometimes I lack the energy to play, so I put on a Marty video. He shows me a cool transition, like the Am to the Asus4 from this video, and I get pumped! You are awesome Marty.

  • Lol this is the first time I've ever seen Marty without a hat :D

  • gosh i really needed to hear that Marty. I truly had a belief that really good guitarist all had been playing since they were like 5 years old. that gave me inspiration on top of the inspiration that your awesome lessons give me. Thank you so much!!!!

  • When I say it will take me 19 years to be good, I mean it will take me 19 years to be on Martys level, which is waaaaay above the clouds!

  • Wow its gonna take me 19 years to be good!?!?!? Im 19 right now, so at 38 ill be a old badass rocker hopefully. Im in it for the long haul boys!!!!

  • haha 95 was only 16 years ago. and when i was born

  • the crazy thing is that i got my first guitar at 13 took a few lessons gave it up and then in grade 12 i got an electric guitar and ive been playing ever since

  • I got to be honest. I didn't like at first marty. I didn't like how every video i searched you showed up, i always wanted to click on someone else's lesson. I learned guitar and songs okay, but i would always end up going back to your vid. Now that I'm on your page and am looking at your other videos, i realize your a fucking badass. Especially this one, i feel like i can get on your level one day because of it. Thanks Marty. Your Rad.

  • "1995 wasn't that long ago" LOL, whatever makes you feel better Marty!

  • thanxxxx........ love u

  • 0:04 lol i guess ima just wear a hat, i wouldn't be marty without one!

  • I dont think i could even be able to place my fingers on a fret if it weren't for you

  • I'm glad you had that crappy teacher. It's made you a great one!

  • MARTY you rock. Love your videos, been watchin' them for a couple months now. Your videos taught me how to play guitar since day one so thank you for that. I have a request for you to do a tutorial on Plush by STP if you can. Please and thanks if you do!

  • Wow Marty with no hat in the beginning, epic.

  • Hey, you got some Kung Fu chops as well then huh!

  • Marty, your videos are fantastic. You started playing guitar the same year as me but look how much better you are then I am!!

Have a look at my channel and consider recording a marty version of one of my songs.

    Cheers.

    Ian

  • Thanks Marty- you have come a long way and thanks for taking the time to share what you have learned.

  • Marty could you PLEAAASEEEEEE do a tutorial for ''Happiness'' by The Fray? Please! Appreciate you!

  • Thanks Marty! I have been singing and picking acoustic guitar on gigs for 2 years. Chords aren't enough for me anymore. I have got to learn to play lead. Working from your videos has been very enjoyable. Thanks!

  • Hello marty, fascinating story I,ve had a guitar now for at least 20 years and am still not even an average player, but watching your lessons does inspire me to try a little harder as we all know that practice makes you improve and i am lazy. I love watching people play together like tommy emanuel and richard smith or tommy and frank vignola, not that i will ever be that good but thanks for the inspiration.

  • My family ain't too musical either. I got a guitar for X-mas after wanting one for several years. I've been playin' for a couple of days and I'm addicted. With Marty'z videos I've already learned Smoke on the Water, Eye of the Tiger, Iron Man, etc. All I can say is thanks Marty!

  • @NoobTuber1995 nice man! keep up the good work! probs in 18 years youll be as good as marty :)) goodluck!

  • to me at 5:41 it looks like two mexicans playing lefthanded guitars although they are right handed mexican player xP the picture

  • Hey marty, your buddy that taught you guitar, whatever happened to him? Did you surpass him? Or did he see you catching up and work hard so that you wouldn't?

  • great guitar video yet again marty =) i would just like to ask what did you take at collage?

  • @TheMusicfan1996 Filming.

  • This is so inspiring. Thankyou.

  • Marty I want to thank you. You are the reason I play guitar today. I have learnt most of the guitar techniques like chords, strumming, picking etc. from you. You have a gift! You are def. the best guitar teacher ever...

    Cheers from N. Cyprus!

  • Carlsberg don't do guitar teachers, but if they did.....

  • Thumbs up if Marty schwartz should be on an episode of biography

  • yeah how much everyday have you played since then?

  • i love tht guitar ur holding i was born in 1995 lol

  • If you had to guess, how many hours per day have you averaged practicing since 1995? I mean average. Some days zero, some days 7 hours. 3 hours a day? 1 hour a day? 7 hours a day?

  • And then you earned a college degree in music!! You rule, dude, seriously. You totally rock. I'm going to purchase some stuff from your website.

  • Marty rules and I suck. We are the same age. I, too, was a senior in high school in 1993. I started college in the fall of 1993, aged 18. There were a few other guys in the dorms who played guitar very well. I wanted to try it, but I concluded I was "too old" (at age 18) because they already knew how to play (they'd probably been playing a few years). LOL. I suck. I could have been playing 19 years now too. : ( Now I'm learning (since age 35) but I'll have arthritus soon.

  • @SkirtSoPlain NO! You should be thinking "I'll be playing much better soon" instead of your comment that admits defeat! Its not about how much better you are compared to someone else. Its about how much better you will be six months from now compared to today! Never compare your progress to someone else. Its all about how YOU have improved over time with practice!! Who cares if someone else is better than you??? What can YOU play today that you couldn't two months ago!!

  • hey i was wondering if you could the the lesson of hotel California all the other lessons i found where useless id appreciate it if you could thanks :)

  • What model Martin is that?

  • Hi Marty! I was looking around youtube and i couldnt find a video on Lost In My Mind by The Head And The Heart i would really be greatful if you could do a how to on this song! Thanks for all wat u do!! Keep going!!

  • honestly marty, you're the type of musician that i wanna be friends with. you're not some stuck up seeming guy. who's like dude you suck, give it up. i can relate to your stories. made me feel that much more inspired to learn. and to be quite frank...you're my main teacher. 7 months ago i picked up a guitar and when with my friends, i wished i could jam and be potential. now i can jam and have good memories (especially at parties). Im not great...but i know with time and practice...ill get there

  • hey dude you should do a lesson on what makes you beautiful by boyce avenue, i been trying to figure it out but cant

  • Ur really good

  • Basically he really started to play at the age you discover weed, normal, normal

    BTW your sick Marty

  • so u got your electric guitar in 1995 and and that wasnt long time ago??? after that year i was born.....

  • Your so right about the books and lessons if they're are not interesting and fun. I think you have the best approach to teaching I've seen and it has made me pick up my guitar again. My son (6) has now asked Santa for an electric guitar for Xmas and we will be following you closely. A really big thanks from us.

  • also is there some kind of story to that guitar its in almost every acoustic guitar video!??

  • There's nothing i love more than guitar but has there ever been a point when u r learning when you just aren't that eager on it but only for a couple hours? Is that normal?I'm not like that now but i am sometimes.

    by the way U ROCK!
