Niceish guitar to play, but I've had the FL1A and the electrics shit themselves onstage and were replaced 5 times.Sold that real quick!I have a CC 12 string which is the best 12 I've ever heard. No electrics problems yet. With a 6 string, I'll stick with my Martins
Hey dude, got a question for ya.... I bought the same guitar about a week ago and just wanted to know what the action is like on your cole clark? Does the action get higher like at the 8th fret and on?
Yeah, the action is quite high, higher up the fret. I don't use the Cole Clark when I play up that high, so it does not bother me. But you could take it to your guitar store and have the action set-up the way you like it if it bothers you too much.
@AusSisu so the action must be like that on all cole clarks? will adjusting the action make it sound bad or even stuff the guitar all together? thanks for the reply..
Well aren't you the plonker! No in all seriousness, the Lakewood's look the goods. But not too sure about the quality VS price range. I still think that CC owns it - also, all solid?
Maton can't touch the cole clark in this price range. This can be had, with case and strap, for about 900 if you shop around. If it is your local guitar shop and you want to support them, don't pay more than 950 - they are still making good money and won't go poor! And make sure you get the free add ons (case, CC strap)
The EM225C is not an all solid guitar, a chunk of your money is going towards the AP4 pickup, rather than all solid wood construction. The FL1 is a superior guitar in my opinion thanks to it being all solid woods. When you pick up the CC you feel like you are holding a well crafted instrument that will last. The acoustic sound is also better without the pickup system. Only get the pickup system if you are sure you will use the guitar live or are going for certain effects.
I went to my local guitar store yesterday. When unplugged, Maton has better treble but does not have 'body' in its sound compared to CC. However, when plugged in, FL1 totally kills EM225C & EM325C!! No brainer, I bought FL1 straight away. Thanks for your recommendation.
case wise, look at getting a hiscox, anything that's not at least made from polyurethane is just taking a risk, a basic hiscox case will take about 500pounds worth off pressure and not damage the guitar inside same with bumbs, the polyurethane will absorb it all, if you ever travel with the guitar it offers the best protection against humididy and cold without shelling out for a fibreglass case, worth it incase it get's damaged in the car, gigging or take it abroad by air, airlines brake guitars
i'm thinking aboout getting the cutaway Bunya FL-1 in jan/feb, are they hand made or semi-handmade? by the price i'd guess semi though i've played some semi-handmade's and there great! i'm trying to find a Welsh dealer so i can try out before i buy
They are CNC machined and then finished by hand. If you are looking for environmentally friendly and a sweet sound, you can't go wrong. Also, some awesome international stars use Cole Clark - check out their webpage for more details!
aye been looking into them quite a bit, defiantly something a i'll buy in the future, the FL-AC2 i think though they've been testing a new prototype over the past year, so there should be something that bit better out this year =) I have a friend over in Belfast knows the guys at Avalon's workshop's, so i'm hoping he can help broker a deal on one of their guitars for me by the summer, all handmade start to finish, superb guitars =D
Great review! Thanks for taking time to do this! I had never heard of Cole Clark before today and was checking out some Maple guitars and you did a great job reviewing! Thanks
Yeah man... need to pay for my new Martin OM28v, I will be posting a review on that in the next week or so. It's honestly a great guitar and I will miss it a lot!
thanks for the review definately getting on in 2 weeks i mite get the AC though so i can play with an amp and access to the the next octave. thanks alot for your reveiw more people should watch this and buy australian!

@AusSisu i don't actually have a lakewood but i had a play with one, my first impression was one of
" I WANT THIS GUITAR " superb rich sound and easy to play, really, the best guitar i've ever had hold of,
makes my washburn sound cheap but it ain't.

I'm looking at getting this guitar, and my other options were the Maton range, so this has been very informative.

Agreed with everything. I went in looking at the Matons, but this just played so much better.
I just bought an FL1 also, but the case that I got with it looks very different. It has the Cole Clark sig on the end of the neck.

@DavesDig3B
Yeah, Maton are a little thin sounding unless you get way up in the price range.
The case you have is the new design, I actually like it a lot as it is a little more understated. Thanks for watching!
